The PM made some statements on Gorakshaks (cow vigilantes) that appeared something like this:

“I get so angry on Gorakshaks. Some people who are criminals pretend to be Gorakshaks. State governments should make dossier of these people. 70-80% of them do such bad deeds in night that no society can accept. If you really want to do Gosewa (service of cows), stop use of plastic instead.”

I have stopped getting shocked after NIT Srinagar episode, temple desecration in Kashmir, and human rights concerns for those mourning death of dreaded terrorist Burhan Wani.

I will not issue judgment on the political necessity of the statement and why it is or is not a masterstroke. My loyalty lies with Dharma (right and wrong) and role models who gave their lives for it. This alone is my specialization and I hope politicians will have some food for introspection from this.

1. It is not clear who the 70-80% refers to. If PM is referring to 70-80% of criminals who pretend to be Gorakshak, then even the remaining 20-30% would also be doing bad deeds. How can 20-30% of criminals be doing good deeds afterall!

Hence it is implied that he is referring to 70-80% of Gorakshaks as criminals. This is a very serious statement to make.

The PM must clarify on this.

2. The statement and statistics he spoke of are also valid on politicians and every terrorist. It is valid on Kashmiris who are pelting stones. And they are conducting crimes of much higher magnitude. The statistics will be much higher in their case. Will he ever make statements on them? Will he stop talking terms with scam-tainted parties instead of just making it a political battle? All parties shout against each other in media and then hug each other in evening parties. Mulayam was a killer of Kar-sewaks and then every BJP leader was attending marriages of his children!

Why this political correctness when it comes to political criminals. But different standards for Gorakshaks?

Here is a statement that PM should make for politicians: (In fact Chanakya has called Politics as prostitute with no loyalties!)

“I get so angry on politicians. Some people who are criminals pretend to be politicians. State governments should make dossier of these people. 70-80% of them do such bad deeds in night that no society can accept. If you really want to do Rashtra Sewa (service of nation), stop use of plastic and go-green instead.”

Here is the version for Kashmiris pelting stones:
“I get so angry on Kashmiris. Some people who are terrorists pretend to be freedom-fighters. J&K government should make dossier of these people. 70-80% of them do such bad deeds in night that no society can accept. If you really want to serve Kashmir, stop pelting stones and call Burhan Wani a terrorist.”

Here is the version for Islamic fundamentalists:
“I get so angry on Muslim preachers. Some people who are Hindu-haters pretend to be Muslim preachers. Home Ministry should make dossier of these people. 70-80% of them believe that all Hindus will go to Hell. No society can accept this. If you really want to serve Islam, stop reading books that say idol-worshippers will go to Hell, and sing “Ishwar Allah tero naam…” in mosques.”

Here is the version for Jihadi terrorists:
“I get so angry on Muslims. Some people who believe Allah has ordered them to fight to establish islam pretend to be Muslims. PMO will work with Home Ministry to make dossier of these people. 70-80% of them sympathize with terrorists and believe that non-Muslims will go to Hell. No society can accept this. If you really want to serve Islam, say that “Anyone who believes that non-Muslims will go to Hell and Islam must be spread through sword or conversions is a rascal.”

I wait for the day when these statements will be made, despite these being concerns that are far more serious than the worst that a Gorakshak would have done.

3. Yes, beating anyone – Dalit or non-Dalit – is wrong. But how can few isolated incidents be used to blame the entire community of Gorakshaks?

In one case, some people claiming to be Gorakshaks partnered with a Muslim in Gujarat to beat a few Dalits.

In another case, one woman beat up another woman on a railway station because she was carrying illegal beef.

How does this add up to explain how Gorakshaks have saved thousands of cows from illegal slaughter across India, despite a useless law and mute law-keepers?

4. And if they cause so much concern, why no concern on Islamic terrorism that is not just beating people but killing people? Why no anger on those Gorakshaks who have been killed by Jihadis for trying to save illegal slaughter of cows? Why murder of Prashanth Poojary few months ago brought no anger?

5. Those fools who believe that it is their right to eat cow should remember that the most popular deity of this nation is called Gopal (one who nurtures cows). People name their children after him. His image playing flute with cow next to him is the most popular image ever used in this country. Love for cow is the core emotional foundation of majority of Hindus.

If that does not matter to cow-eaters, I dare them to explain why Kamlesh Tiwari is in jail for insulting Prophet Muhammad? Why they raised no hue and cry over him. Will they dare to organize Prophet Cartoon festival? Why so sensitive to religious sentiments of few? And so insensitive to sentiments of overwhelming majority?

Why this double standard? Or is it that you understand the language of threat alone? Your double standards explain why Gorakshaks turn aggressive. If you dare to stand fearlessly and support Prophet cartoons, if you come to streets for release and protection of Kamlesh Tiwari who called Prophet a gay, then you have moral right to demand cow-killing.

6. The statement that PM made on self-styled cow vigilantes is almost similar to the kind of justification that Aurangzeb and Jahangir would give to hate our heroes.

Shivaji was a self-styled cow vigilante who chopped hands of a butcher for trying to kill a cow. Does he anger the PM?

Guru Tegh Bahadur was beheaded by Aurangzeb for supporting Kashmiri Hindus and protesting against cow slaughter in Kashmir. Was Guru Tegh Bahadur a self-styled cow-vigilante who angers the PM?

Guru Arjan Dev was killed by Jahangir for his love for Goraksha.

Banda Singh Bahadur was ruthlessly killed.

– The entire lineage of heroes who fought against Jihadis in medieval era were self-styled cow vigilantes (Gorakshaks). Had they not been there, India would have been a Somalia today ruled by ISIS type fanatics. Are they role models for us or do they make us angry?

– Why go far. The first war of independence in 1857 started because Mangal Pandey was a Gorakshak. Should we ban him from history text-books as a self-styled cow vigilante?

– Maharaja Ranjit Singh thrashed away Jihadis in Kashmir and banned cow slaughter. That rule is valid in valley till today. Hari Singh Nalwa drove away Jihadi rascals till Afghanistan and was a death for any cow-killer in entire Sikh empire. Were they self-styled Gorakshaks that anger the PM?

7. Ban of plastic bags is a great thing. Why for cow, for everyone. Let government ban it. But how does it relate to protesting against cow-slaughter. This type of logic can be applied everywhere.

If you want to do Gosewa, stop use of plastic instead. Because plastic causes cows to die.
If you want to do Rashtra Sewa, stop use of plastic instead. Because plastic damages the environment of Rashtra.
If you want to be a doctor, stop use of plastic instead. Because plastic causes cancer and serious diseases.
If you want to pet a dog, stop use of plastic instead. Because plastic is harmful for animals.

The point is: Why stopping use of plastic should stop anyone from doing some else that is also meaningful?

If I see a truck full of cows being illegally trafficked for slaughter, what should I do? Should I turn back into the market and search plastic bags on street?

8. Before BJP came in power, the PM had given a very emotional speech on cow slaughter. He was in tears talking about Pink Revolution where Gomata is killed. The speech aroused millions to not just vote for BJP, but work as free volunteers. The BJP victory in most Muslim majority seats was due to consolidation of Hindu votes over Cow, Ram Temple, Article 370.

9. It is easy to get distracted especially at high echelons of power in a democracy. But one must stick to the message of Gita from Gopal: “Nothing surpasses Dharma. Victory or loss does not matter.”

I hope the PM ensures that Dharma of Gopal and sacrifices of our cow-lovers in last 1400 years of history is not sidelined.

And if power tends to corrupt the definition of Dharma, we must stand up for course-correction.

“Politicians may praise or condemn. Riches may come or go. Whether death comes now or after ages. Humans of character do not deviate from path of Dharma” – Bhartrihari

  • Excellent article by Vashi Ji. We bow to Dharma. I am organised SunderKand at my residence on 03/09/2016 at 05:00 Pm , which will be dedicated to GauRaksha.

Every Hindu is up in arms to save Gau Mata , Come what in way we will not leave any stone unturned to same our mother. We do not care about Jihadis and fanatics , they are also made of the same material with inferior spiritual qualities .

Thus it is very easy to win them by DharmaBhimani Hindus.

  • it is pressure of opposite party and Muslims that P.M. Modi has to accept it is breach of constitutional right of Muslim if they are stopped killing of cow and consuming flesh of cow. Islam allows the Muslims killing of cow and consume its flesh and Indian constitution gives the right Muslim to follow their religion. P. M. Must understand this. It is good after pressure of opposition and Media P.M. warned the cow protectors.

    • You joker…first divide you want to follow Indian constitution or Quran…because donation don’t allow cow killing …but how will you know…illiterate follower of illiterate muhammmed… will only know what your prophet was expert in rapes, killing etc….other things are beyond your imagination

  • Wonderful article!
Vasi, the politicians will always be opportunistic and vote seeker. If majority of the population wants to protect cow, no one can dare to open cow slaughter house in any city. The real problem is majority of the population (especially hindus) do not care and they are not united even for a nobel cause. Majority of hindus do not know what is real dharma. They do not know what are vedas. They have never heard about upanishads. They are hindus for the name sake, not in actions.
