Learn Sanskrit Month 4

Fourth installment of the course.
Routine reiteration:
a. Do not get too bogged down by grammar and usage while you learn Sanskrit. Often Sanskrit is considered to be all about mugging up lots of declensions and conjugations and this fears off most students. Instead take is as a natural language. Feel free to make the most blatant grammatical errors so far you are able to convey your message. Develop a feel for the language instead of thinking about grammar.
How did we learn Hindi or English or our mother tongue? Did we learn grammar first or language first? And do we speak these languages in a grammatically correct fashion even today? Why burden Sanskrit with overdose of grammar in very beginning then?
Simply start talking on every other thing in Sanskrit and enjoy the funny pronunciations you make or blatant errors you make in grammar. Have a laugh on that and simply continue. Soon you will develop a natural grip over the language and grammar will be automatically taken care of.
b. Try using Sanskrit words even in your mother language. After all Sanskrit is the mother of all languages. Let the children associate with their Mom and have their foundations strengthened! And in process, your road to mastery of Sanskrit will also be traversed faster.
c. Download a copy of Introduction to Vedas (Hindi) from http://agniveer.com/2045/introduction-to-vedas/ if you know Hindi. This is an amazing text not only to understand Vedic concepts but learn Sanskrit naturally. Because most sections of the book are presented in very simple Sanskrit as well as Hindi. In some sections there are deviations in Sanskrit and Hindi message and it would be a good idea to explore those areas and form the right opinion!
If we find interest in this pilot, we would also work towards web-based live classroom teaching on Sanskrit, a Sanskrit course for Hindi students as well as an expert course on Vedic Grammar. May Ishwar provide us strength for all this.

  1. It is my dream to learn Sanskrit & study Ved. Previously I got chance to learn Sanskrit from Pt. Dharmanand Shashtri, but due to ignorance, I couldn’t learn it. Thanks a lot for all your great work. If possible, kindly suggest places where I can learn authentic sanskrit physically (kind of Evening classes)

  2. namaste brothers,
i have been quite successful debating and discussing with my friends who are atheists, brahmins by bìrth, and krishna=god hindus. i guided them to here and most of them have changed their believes and are now agniveer addicts.
but i have some more doubts which i cudnt fìnd answers from any article or comments.
    1. ishwar is conscious. is he lìstening if i am conversing with him? or is he idle, detatched from our affairs?
    2. during rebirth, past memories are cleared from soul. then y do some people remember their past lifes? is that a flaw?
    3. is advaita vedanta against evolution? all organisms were created seperately? why is there an astounding similarity between genes of various species? i read that our genes are 50% similar with banana.
    4. since soul is the cause of life, shouldnt we conclude plants do have souls, since it is beyond doubt that plants r living things?
    5. what is the requisite for salvation? i need to be a very good soul or a perfect soul(0 anger, 0 affinity to physical pleasures, 100 % brahmachari etc)?
    6. i am a beautiful human. i love every living being, help the society, and work for world peace. but i couldnt study vedas or i couldnt believe in a supreme being.
    wil i get salvation?
i congratulate everybody here for ur extremely penetrating comments of deep thoughts and pure wisdom..especially indian agnostic( he is something else!), kalbhairav, aryaji, vajraji, vik, SDC,kafirs, atman, sameer, and many whose names i cant just recollect.. thank u warriors of dharma..our success is prophecied by Nostradamus.. 6 million muslims have left islam in Africa alone;reported Al jazeera recently.
    Thank u.

    • Namaste Brother Sarang
Thanks a lot for the encouragement Brother. here I try to put my views on your questions one by one
      1. ishwar is conscious. is he lìstening if i am conversing with him? or is he idle, detatched from our affairs?
Eeshvar is omnipresent and thus in your soul, mind, heart everywhere. He knows you better than yourself! He does not need listening but he knows already what is there in your mind which you will speak to him. That is why He even listens to those who cant speak. He is so much attached with us everytime that we fail to appreciate His existence in the absence of any change. Its like on poles, sun shines for 6 months and the people therein find it difficult to appreciate the importance of sun’s existence during that time than the normal people observing day-night of shorter periods. Sun is always shining our world and similar way Eeshvar is always there with His full illumination for everyone. All the perfect unchangeable laws which are there to help souls doing Karma and attain Moksha are the representations of His divine illumination.
      2. during rebirth, past memories are cleared from soul. then y do some people remember their past lifes? is that a flaw?
No! Clearing of the past memories during rebirth is not any law. It all changes from person to person. In the current life itself many people have very weak memory whereas many have extraordinary. It happens in this life too, that we forget many memories of childhood but suddenly some moment after seeing/hearing/touching/tasting/smelling something, we start recalling our lost memories. Same can happen in rebirth.
      3. is advaita vedanta against evolution? all organisms were created seperately? why is there an astounding similarity between genes of various species? i read that our genes are 50% similar with banana.
I cant speak on behalf of Advaita Vedanta but as per my understanding of Vedas, I can say that the universe is working under the unchangeable perfect laws and these laws and the universe have the purpose. If the theory of evolution does not contradict these laws, there is no clash. However many of the assumptions and hypothesis of theory of evolution have been changed a lot till now from the date it came into existence. [An expert in this field can shed more light on it and correct me if I made any wrong claim]
      4. since soul is the cause of life, shouldnt we conclude plants do have souls, since it is beyond doubt that plants r living things?
What is the problem in believing that plants have souls? We believe the souls in the plants to be in unconscious state in which it cant experience anything.
      5. what is the requisite for salvation? i need to be a very good soul or a perfect soul(0 anger, 0 affinity to physical pleasures, 100 % brahmachari etc)?
there is nothing like perfect soul. The soul always has chance to improve itself. Requisites for salvation as told by Rishi Patanjali are Yam and Niyam-
      Yam
      1. Ahinsa (Love for all hatred for none)
      2. Satya (oneness of thought, speech, and action)
      3. Asteya (refraining self from theft)
      4. Brahmcharya (control over sensual desires especially sexual ones)
      5. Aparigriha (not collecting more than the needs)
      Niyam
      1. Shouch (purity of soul and body)
      2. Santosh (Getting satisfied after putting maximum efforts)
      3. Tapa (Following the noble path always irrespective of the joy or sorrow coming our way)
      4. Swaadhyay (Gaining knowledge from the works of Rishis/noble people/intellectuals and then testing it through logic, reasoning and the inner voice)
      5. Eeshvar Pranidhaan (Always doing noble deeds and offering those efforts to Eeshvar without thinking about the result)
The practice of Yam and Niyam followed by meditation in actual life will alone lead one to Moksha. These Yam and Niyam are to be practiced (practice means to the best of our efforts) every moment. The moment one starts practicing these, his/her state of soul in the next moment is always more purer than the state in previous moment. And this upgradation in the state of soul lasts till the salvation.
      6. i am a beautiful human. i love every living being, help the society, and work for world peace. but i couldnt study vedas or i couldnt believe in a supreme being. wil i get salvation?
This is the beauty of Vedic philosophy that everyone gets salvation early or late depending upon one’s deeds. A loving, helping peaceful soul is already in the path of salvation! His already higher state than many of the Veda Pathis is due to his past Sanskaras which he earned till date (including previous lives). So any such enlightened soul will definitely get the opportunity to explore the Vedic knowledge in more effective way, in the upcoming birth if not in the same birth.
In short, you will have access to Vedas in your near future. Same applies with the belief in supreme being. And I think one must go by logic in deciding his/her belief in anything. Even Vedas say that follow only truth! [and truth is oneness of thoughts, tongue and action] So unless one decides logically, he/she should not believe/disbelieve in anything.
I welcome your thoughts on the above.
In the end, with all due respect to your feelings, I would disagree with the concept of prophecy you mentioned. Lets not depend on any prophecy as all of them are man made and thus prone to changes. Even if Nostradamus or millions like him collectively would shout the reverse that Islam will take over the world, we would have still be here busting the myths of man made religions as well as prophecies with even greater might.
      Dhanyawad

      • thank u IA and kalbhairav.
@vajraji, that was extremely well written, and exhaustively answered. Humble pranams to u!

    • @sarang:
      Thx for the shout out!
SD is indeed unique in that it is accomodative of so many beautiful philosophies – whether Advaita, Dvaita, Visishtadvaita or even Carvaka. Some cite this as a weakness. But I believe it is one of our greatest strengths.
Yes, Agniveer attracts some excellent posters and I learn a lot from them. 🙂

Excellent reply, it is sad that people are given divine knowledge by the money earned by terrorists and they call it a noble deed!!

  3. @whyvedas,
why do u expect everything for free? How much did vedicbooks.com pay for the author of that book? Was that free? If yes, u may demand it for free. In this site, satyarth prakash, ishopanishad and many other precious scripts are free to download. Why dont u appreciate that?

    • whyvedas reply @sarang
Divine Knowledge are meant to be given freely. When you come to earth you do not come with money and same when you die. Why people should make money first & then buy knowledge. It just mere
investments. Appreciations comes when knowledge spreads freely with heart not my money minded people. Thank you

Divine Knowledge are meant to be given freely
There are indeed Gurus that offer this knowledge freely. You can visit them in the himalayas and various ashrams and gain this knowledge firsthand.happy journey !
        free is expensive

      • Oh really, you should have contacts & details, since you being having true knowledge then. Do update with info.
        Waiting for your kind reply…
Free is expensive, but its still free.

      • Namaste आर्यव्रतस्थ
it’s a pleasure to see you back.
Bhratashri, Vasant ji ki kop drishti ka candidate bana diya aapne 😉

      • Namaste IA,
Satya Marg par chalen wale sadiva kop drishti ke hi patra to bante hai..
aapke shubh chintako ko aape garv hai..
Kintu vishwas rakhen jeevan me prtyek jeev laghu satya se param satya ke aur agrit hota hai.
yehi to karma ka chakra hai, sadiav gyan arjit karte rehna hi manushya jeevan ka dheya hai.
So mr Vasant is also on the path, provided he learns to find the way to the truth.
        gnyanen BrahmanTatva na Tu Sutren.!!
        Om tat Sat.

      • Please bear with my ignorance, but can anyone translate (into eng or hindi) what IA bro replied to vasant?

      • Namaste Roger Bro
regret the delayed response. Brother Kalbhairav has already answered your question.Adi Shankaracharya ji composed bhaja govindam for a sankrit teacher whom he saw giving much importance to grammar than to the purport of a mantra to his pupils.

  6. Is there any book which shows the
How we can feed values in embrio (in ovary of mother), by mantras and code of conduct. for pragnancy period.
