In this article, we shall summarize the key elements of Vedic religion – the ONLY religion for all human beings.
(Please note that by religion we imply Dharma in this article and not a cult. English being a hopelessly approximate language that evolved in a coarse culture fails to provide equivalents of words like Dharma, Karma, Brahmcharya etc. Thus we have to live with these approximations. Until the day comes when Vedic culture and vedic language become the mainstay due to rationality of human beings in the world, such gaps in communication will continue to remain.)
Please note that Vedas belong to an era when the only cult, community or religion was that of humanity (another very poor approximate of word Manushyata). While Vedas elaborate on a large number of deep subjects and provide a complete framework to reach up to ultimate levels of bliss and truth, following points summarize what it takes to become followers of Vedic religion. Regardless of one’s knowledge, views, ideology or intellect if she or he follows these points, she or he is following the Vedic religion. If one does not follow any rituals, any tradition or any norms, but adheres to these points, she or he is following the Vedic religion.
This alone is the religion that Agniveer wants to preach, and this alone is the true and only way to bliss. You would find many of these points common in various cults and religions. That is because Vedas remain the original source of everything good. Whatever is good in these other cults is inherited from the Vedas. Thus if one is following any good practice, it is Vedic dharma. No one can survive without being Vedic for a moment. The effort in life should be directed towards eliminating the unnecessary additional waste that is not Vedic and yet we keep pulling like a donkey.
So here is a summary of Vedic religion. Embrace them and live a life of bliss beyond imaginations!
1. The last Sukta of Rigveda (10.161) summarizes the whole essence of what humans should do to imbibe the Vedas. The entire Vedas have to be understood in context of this Sukta which emphasizes on the most differentiating trait of human beings – unity – in purpose, method and approach. Here is a summary list of the dictates of Vedic religion in this Sukta:
Rigveda 10.161.2
– walk together in the path of truth without bias, injustice and intolerance
– talk to each other to enhance knowledge, wisdom and affection without malice and hatred
– keep working together to enhance knowledge and bliss
– follow the path of truth and selflessness as exemplified by noble people
Rigveda 10.161.3
– Your analysis of right and wrong should be unbiased and not specific to particular set of people
– You should organize together to help everyone enhance their health, knowledge and prosperity
– Your minds should be devoid of hatred and should see progress and happiness of all as one’s own progress and happiness and you should only act for enhancement of happiness of all based on truth
– Work together to eradicate falsehood and discover truth
– Never ever deviate from path of truth and unity.
Rigveda 10.161.4
– Your efforts should be full of enthusiasm and for bliss of everyone
– Your emotions should be for one and all and love everyone the way you love yourself
– Your desire, resolve, analysis, faith, abstinence, patience, keenness, focus, comfort etc all should be towards truth and bliss for all, and away from falsehood.
– Keep working in synergy to increase each others’ knowledge and bliss.
2. Yajurved 19.77
– All humans at all times should have passion only for adoption of truth and rejection of falsehood. This should be a continuous process and one should keep detaching faith from what one discovers to be false and keep attaching faith to what one discovers to be true based on analysis, logic, facts and evidence.
3. Yajurved 36.18
– Humans should never hate any other living being and interact with each other with love and affection
– Humans should consider all living beings as their friends and work for prosperity of everyone
4. Yajurved 1.5
– All human beings should resolve to accept only truth and reject the falsehood. Even the prayer to Supreme should request only eradication of falsehood and embrace of truth alone.
5. Yajurved 19.30
– When one resolves to adhere to truth, she becomes eligible for bliss and truth. When she becomes eligible, she starts getting rewards in form of knowledge and satisfaction. Such rewards strengthen the resolve and enhance the faith towards pursuit of truth. As the faith enhances, so does the bliss and knowledge one gets. And eventually this leads to ultimate bliss or Salvation.
6. Atharvaved 12.5.1,2
– Shrama – extreme efforts and Tapa – desire to withstand challenges and troubles happily for sake of one’s goal – are the two basic characteristics of humans that they should never leave.
– Through Shrama and Tapa, humans can unravel the greatest mysteries of the world and understand the knowledge of Brahma or Supreme
– Shrama and Tapa should be utilized to adopt truth and reject falsehood
– Shrama and Tapa should be utilized to enhance one’s wealth and prosperity of the nation
– Shrama and Tapa should be utilized to gain fame based on truth alone
7. Atharvaved 12.5.3
– One should use one’s own things and not steal from others
– One should ensure that everyone trusts each other completely. Trust cannot come without passion for truth and hence truth should be adhered to in all situations
– One should make greatest efforts to protect true knowledge, scholars and innocent people
– One should indulge in extracting best benefits through Yajna – by selfless acts of general benefits for all, promoting true knowledge and applying this knowledge in all fields
– One should never be lazy and continue putting efforts for the Yajna
8. Atharvaved 12.5.7-10
(These mantras provide a complete snapshot of Vedic religion)
Oja – Bravery in following truth
Teja – Fearlessness
Saha – To follow truth regardless of happiness, sorrow, loss, gain
Bala – To continue increasing physical and mental strength through study, Brahmacharya, discipline, exercise etc
Vaak – To speak sweetly for propagation of truth
Indriya – To direct all the 5 sense organs, 5 action organs and mind towards truth and righteousness and away from sins
Shree – To put all efforts and plan for creation of a powerful country based on truth, justice and honesty and bringing down those rulers who are corrupt, impotent, devoid of self-respect and selfish
Dharma – To continuously accept truth and reject falsehood and bring benefit for all human beings and living beings through this process
Brahma – To promote scholars and noble people who would propagate knowledge
Kshatra – To promote brave people who would protect nation and people, and severely punish those who harm innocent people or attempt to denigrate the society
Visha – To promote commerce and trade and work towards propagation of global economy devoid of discrimination
Twishi – To promote and publicize noble virtues and truth alone
Yasha – To work for global fame based only on truth and noble virtues
Varcha – To establish a sound education system for all men and women
Dravinam – To explore for more and more wealth based on above traits, safeguard the existing wealth, enhance the safeguarded wealth and investing wealth to promote knowledge and noble virtues
Ayu – To put all efforts to increase one’s lifespan
Roopam – To wear good clean clothes take showcase dignity and respect
Naam – To work towards setting examples so that others are also inspired towards path of truth
Keerti – To propagate true knowledge so that we also get fame
Prana Apana – To control breathing patterns to eliminate diseases and enhance longevity
Chakshu Shrotra – To use sense organs to continuously explore truth and reject falsehood
Paya Rasa – To have drinks that enhance health and vitality – like milk, water, medicines etc
Anna Annadya – To have good food that is beneficial for health as per methods of medical sciences
Ritam – To worship only the ultimate Ishwar who is Supreme and none else
Satyam – To have no absolutely differences in what one knows, speaks and acts upon
Ishtam – To desire only total bliss through worship of one and only one Ishwar through noble acts as described above
Poortam – To plan and act for fulfillment of Ishtam as defined above
Praja – To educate masses and new generation in all true fields of knowledge and actions
Pashava – To care for animals as well
The mantra uses ‘Cha’ meaning ‘and’ several times to emphasize that apart from those mentioned above, any other trait that promotes truth and wisdom and eradicates falsehood and grief from among masses should be readily adopted.
Other texts based on Vedas elaborate this subject of religion or Dharma in greater detail and so do many other mantras of Vedas. Some of the other excellent elaborations on Dharma are found in Taittriya Aranyak 7.9,11; 10.8; 10.62,63; Mundakopanishad 3.1.5,6 and Purva Meemansa 1.1.2 which states that whatever is advised by Ishwar in Vedas (as explained above) is Dharma.
(You can read them in detail in Rigvedadibhashyabhumika or Introduction to Vedas by Swami Dayanand in Chapter named Vedoktadharmavishaya. Its a compulsory reading for those desiring to understand the Vedas.)
The definition of Dharma or religion as per Vaisheshik Darshan 1.1.2 is “ Whatever leads to happiness and ultimate bliss or Moksha for entire world – alone is Dharma”.
All human beings should follow this religion or Dharma alone and reject everything else that does not comply with it, or are unnecessary additions over it. This alone is the religion for all human beings. Humans do not have two religions. So accept only this religion, as described above, and reject everything else!

Indra, Varun, Agni etc are described in hierarchy in Vedas. They are also living beings in different planetary systems. They too are under the control of Brahman. If you read the verses above, you will see how a woman is addressing her mother describing her love towards Indra. F/F67 is the Joseph Fitzgerald of FFI. Mr. Kababa, you have Indian culture in your blood and so don’t stoop to FF-67’s level.
Finally, you know very well that Kerala is the land of the great Adi Shankaracharya. How can you forget that? Hindus will never run away from philosophic discussions. Now the onus is on you to disprove my claims.

Its not about something being corrupted or not. Any man made scripture, even if it is not corrupted, should be checked whether it is in accordance with Vedas or not. “No corruption” in any scripture is necessary condition for it to be perfect but its not sufficient.
As a safe bet contemplate on the Isha Upanishad ..It’s a part and parcel of the Veda ( Shukla Yajurveda)

I need a clarification from you. You have mentioned (at the very beginning of this post) that Suktha 161 is the last Sukta of Rg Veda. I find that this is not the case – Sukta 191 (10th Mandala, 12th Anuvaaga) is actually the last Sukta in Rg Veda. The Shlokas mentioned in Suktha 161 do not correspond to the meanings that you have quoted against 10.161.2 to 10.161.4. The Suktha 161 actually has 5 Shlokas while you have referenced only 4 in your English Translation.
The Suktha 191 has 4 Shlokas, but I am not able to match the meanings mentioned in your article with the meaning of the Shlokas I find there. Could you pl. give the ACTUAL shlokas (Sanskrit words transliterated into English) so that I can pick up the actual shlokas?

Nice, article especially the preface, which says, “Please note that by religion we imply Dharma in this article and not a cult”. However, I cannot fully agree with this line, “Purva Meemansa 1.1.2 which states that whatever is advised by Is…hwar in Vedas (as explained above) is Dharma” —-this line reminds me of “Islamisation” of Hinduism or “Quanification” of Hinduism; taking everything mentioned in the scriptures as the absolute truth (this is my personal opinion). Hinduism is becoming so popular among the Western masses is due to reforms taken out by Hindus from time to time and hence we need to gauge a particular verse of Vedas according to our current perspective: Remaining stagnant at a place will lead us to dark ages as is happening in Islam. Thanks for enlightening us.
I think we are on same page. The problem happens when Vedas are compared with time-bound texts like Bible or Quran simply because a big population follows these texts as scriptures. Vedas do not contain any time-bound rituals or instructions. Vedas themselves state that everything should be evaluated on parameters of truth – accordance with conscience, as per proven evidences, as per laws of nature etc. This forms the core of Vedas and hence we recommend Vedas. Further, remaining stagnant and according a time-bound meaning to Vedic verses is also against Vedas.
In other words, Vedas themselves assert that principles should be applied as per current perspective. Those who do blind applications are misled. Thus Vedas are supposed to be benchmarks and guides to direct you to self-realization, and not absolute truth in themselves to be believed in blindly regardless of how much one understands them in first place.
What version of the vedas did you read for writing this article called “Religion of Vedas?” Please specify the version of the vedas that you use for writing articles like these.

Oh, I’m sorry. I mean what edition of the Vedas is used by Agniveer? I would really like to know. So far, I only come across Ralph Griffith’s translation of the Vedas on the internet, which does not seem accurate and I cannot really understand Griffith’s version of the Vedas too well either.

There do not exist versions in Vedas. Veda means knowledge (truth). Truth is absolute and so has no versions/interpretations. The vedic texts are known to be compliant to veda. So, basically there is a single version of vedic scripts; thanks to preservation by oral tradition

What to do for improving ourselves?
According to Krishna the aims and pathway for a better life is ( Bhagavath Geetha) Uddhareth athmanaathmaanam naaathmaanam avassadhayeth aathmaivahi athmanobhandhu: athmaiva ripuraathmana: Remember that the ultimate aim of our life is elevating / raising /uddharanam of ourselves every minute, and never belittling ourselves . We ourselves are our best friends and we ourselves are our worst enemies. This upadesa he has given in the 6th capter 5th line of Bhagavath Geetha. So let us elevate/ improve ourself, our family, our society and our motherland. Let us never denigrate ourself, our family, our society, our culture and our motherland.
Krishna has given another advise for improving ourselves jnaanam vijnana sahitham yath jnaathwaa mokshyase asubhaath. Every bit of spiritual knowledge should be analysed and practiced after verifying them with scientific tools for and thus avoiding the practice of superstitions.
Krishna’s third message for improving our life style is swalpamapyasya dharmassya thraayathe mahato bhayaaath: Follow atleast some/ few dharmic values in our life which will protect us from many horrible negatives in the life. Whatever we are doing or not doing are the important factors connected with us. Nobody has given you the responsibility to analyse what others are doing/ not doing. Worry not too much about others ! says
Krishna in his message : Na hi kalyaana krith kaschith durgathim thaatha gacchathi: If you do good you will never have to worry , and the good results will definitely follow 🙁 every action there is an equal and opposite action for that. Do good and take good We will get the reward/result of every action today or tomorrow)

No, the last sukta isn’t 161 but 191
10.191.2 states
संगछध्वं संवदध्वं सं वो मनांसि जानताम |
देवा भागं यथा पूर्वे संजानाना उपासते ||
It means the same as what 10.161.2 written by Agniveer.
10.191.3 mentions
समानो मन्त्रः समितिः समानी समानं मनः सह चित्तमेषाम |
समानं मन्त्रमभि मण्त्रये वः समानेन वोहविषा जुहोमि ||
Which is nothing but Agniveer’s translation of 10.161.3
Again, 10.191.4 indicates
समानी व आकूतिः समाना हर्दयानि वः |
समानमस्तु वोमनो यथा वः सुसहासति ||
Again same as 10.161.4 as mentioned by Agniveer
So, Agniveer… please replace 161 with 191.
Further, Rig Veda 10.161.2
यदि कषितायुर्यदि वा परेतो यदि मर्त्योरन्तिकं नीतेव |
तमा हरामि निरतेरुपस्थादस्पार्षमेनंशतशारदाय ||
It is a prayer for a ill person. It means: If the ill man is about to die OR if he is beyond recovery; even then I must save him (give me powers to do so) and make him healthy till 100 years.
Griffith just used wrong set of words – Since his standard is Holy Bible NOT Vedas so, that is expected. There is no big blunder IN THIS MANTRA – Just some rhetoric mistake.

I don’t believe in translation by any Tom Dik, Harry… There must be some scholar of Sanskrit and a Yogi who knows what mysteries these books contain. Vedic Sanskrit is known as Dev Bhaashaa and understanding it requires lot of patience. Therefore any dumb translation should NOT be considered.
People like Griffith, Max Muller and others sometimes make mistakes, sometimes errors and sometimes blunders… Rarely, they have something worth understanding.

We do not respect our culture and religion because no one taught us the same in right manner. And westerners could market themselves better. Today whatever makes us proud of our culture are primarily falsehoods marketed better, not the real stuff. So we are forgetting the true gems of our culture. But Bharat shall definitely go back to vedas. It is waiting for you and me to stand up for this cause. After Agniveer movement, millions have started feeling proud of Vedas. We need to continue this momentum in full stream. Mathematics states that within a decade we can create history if we continue in same manner. But we all will need to be united and dedicated to cause.
Agree 100%, need dedicated and desperate people to implement the policy/ resolution. We are all so badly divided politically, culturally that very few would come forward for such causes. I am with all of you. My ancestors must have been Hindus only, if not Buddhist or Jaina. Simple logic, we Muslims never fell from the sky. We have the same DNA and gene as other Indians. If I abuse or undermine Hindus I abuse and undermine my ancestors.
Hinduism has been reduced to worshiping Gods and Temple Pujas. Even the Hindus are ignorant of the philosophy of their own religion. How many Hindus know about the Sankhya, Yoga, Naya, Visesikha, Vedanta philosophies ? Instead of following and taking lessons from the dialogues from Mahabharata and the Ramayana, the Hindus started to worship the Gods.
So long the Hindus keep building temples and hopping into it for Pujas and so long Hindus spend their precious time in religious ceremonies and rituals, believe me, one fine day they will become a minority in their own land. Maybe, I may not be alive another 50 years, but my words may live on forever. It is about time the monies and ornaments lying in the treasuries of the temples and the sansthas should be used to reconvert people into Hinduism and educated people from the dharma should be paid to spread the richness of the Hindu philosophies among the masses.
The first word from the first verse of the Veda starts with “Agni” or light or fire which some religions believe to be their creator.
Bringing together Hindus from all over India to think alike is a Herculean task, but someone has to do it. It will take enormous will power, manpower and money power. If you can make the tripod stand on these three legs, you will succeed. My full support is with all of you.
vedas can be studied and interpreted or translated only by competent vedic scholars. Ershad bhai, No religion was created by God. He has only given us the “consciousness” to understand the “righteousness” or “Dharma”. The Vedas, Upnishadas and other books are based on the knowledge of enlightened people. These books deals with different subjects like God/Ishwar, atma, Karma, sprituality etc. Sanatan Dharma has no name like Islam, Christianity etc. Any one who believes in God and treads on the path of “righteousness” is an upholder of “Dharma”.
Quran lacks the spirituality. It is like a rule book. It mostly talks about obeying Allah and Muhammad. It does not allow any reasoning. It is also full of hatred for non muslims.
There were two books on Yajurved recommended by your website. One by Pandit Harisharan Siddhantalankar and the other by Dr. Tusli Ram, M.A, PhD (London).
There is a video on youtube by some Mushafiq Sultan who shows these two books. He opens chapter 25 first from the Hindi translation and shows that the last verse in there is the 47th verse. He then opens chapter 26 and shows the 47th verse from there.
After this, he opens chapter 25 from the english translation. This chapter does not end in the 47th verse but in the 48th verse, which does not exist in chapter 25 in the hindi translation. The sanskrit verse of the English translation still says that the 48th verse is the 47 (written in sanskrit between these || ||)
Also, the 47th verse from the 26th chapter has been included in this 48th verse. But this has been added with some verse which did not exist at all in the 26th chapter as a part of the 47th verse.
I don’t seem to understand why this discrepancy is there. Agniveer ji, please clear up this confusion as soon as possible.
Any religious philosophy that does not teach brotherhood, love, mercy, compassion and peace is a total failure. In today’s world of senseless killings and shooting, rape, murders, wars, violence and hatred, if the philosophy of the Sanatana dharma, Buddha dharma and the Jaina dharma are introduced world wide, there will be peace, brotherhood and love among all living beings- man and animals. These three religious philosophies are based upon self-realisation , logic and truth. Love for animals and all living beings is the cardinal principle.Hinduism lost its charm by worshipping the dieties/idols instead of following the lessons from the Epics such as the Ramayan and the Mahabharata. With the four Vedas, the Gita- Sankhya, Yoga, Naya, and other philosophies one life is too little to understand Hinduism. Once we read the Ancient Indian Philosophies correctly, we rise above religion. We are enlightened and we are elated to a different level- awakened. It is then religion and Gods matter little to us. Try it.
Well said brother. The truth is there is no such thing as gods, godmen, son of god, prophets, son of man, superman, spiderman, or any of that nonsense. Mankind needs to realize in order of us to reach the highest state of consciousness, God, and be enlightened. We need to focus on embodied knowing. Not follow and walk around a person or prophet or godman or any of that nonsense. We must realize to make it we need to be able to do what these so called prophets or godmen claim they have. We must be able to reproduce what they have done, which is the enlightened experience.
Yoga and meditation is the truth. Not bowing to rocks or stones whether they are carved and shaped as a person or animal or made into some cube in a far off desert. They are both idol worship. We don’t need any of it. We just need ourselves without godmen or son of god or son of man or prophets or superman or spiderman, just need GOD.

Your remarks are very thoughtful, practical, true and are of the need of the hour. I would also like to add here that there are ‘universal truths’ in varying proportions found in all religions. So why only concentrate on the Eastern Dharmic faiths? I feel the only way makind can forge their religious differences is by concentrating on these universal truths. Only then will all evils and turmoils disappear from the face of the Earth.

Because the western religions cannot remove the evils in there religion. It is tied deeply within there religion. Look up history centrism. Rajiv Malhotra explains it very well.
Sanatana Dharma(Hinduism) is some 8 to 10,000 year old. From the time of its origin, Hindus and Hinduism has been deviating from its original philosophies. Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism are all based upon logic. The Hindu deities were supposed to offer lessons by way of dialogues and stories, instead the Hindus started to pray to these Deities. If anyone wants to know what Hinduism is, they may read the abridged forms of the four Vedas, Sutras like the Sankhya, Yoga, Naya, Viseshekha, Upanishad, and Vedanta will enlighten the readers, whichever religions they may belong to. Additionally, Buddhism and Jainism, which are similar to the philosophies of the Upanishad and Vedanta may be read additionally. Other scriptures, the most popular ones are The Gita, Ramayana and the Mahabharata. These are religious texts and every religion has its limitations when the philosophies turn to religion, by way of rituals, ceremonies and customs. Deviations are rampant and continuous all the time. With the passing of time every religion sees deviations from its original principals. Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism are no exceptions.
Another reason for many changes in the culture, philosophies and life style of the Hindus, Buddhists and Jains are the continuous invasions by aliens since the 4th century(AD). The most damaging effect were the invasions and rule over Indians by the Turks, Arabs, Moguls and the British.
With the passing of time( around 80 to 100 centuries) , therefore, it has become difficult for the world to understand Hinduism.
Please accept my deep condolence for the death of your sister due to fire accident. In my book “Man, the king of his karma” under accidental deaths, I commented death by accident is not due to karma. Take for instance I die of an accident. Those who love me will say God took me away because he loved me or good people do not live long in this world, while my opponents will refer to any of my bad deeds for the nasty accident and treat it as a punishment for my sins. Accidents happen to man and animals alike. In Indonesia, a few years ago, many children were crushed and died in the schools due to severe earthquake. We cannot corroborate this accident with the karma of the children. At a time hundreds of children died. Accidents are accidents and cannot be attributed to any karma. If one believes in astrology, one can believe the accident to be due to astrological reasons. Then again, did all the little children in Indonesia killed due to the earthquake had the same astrological ending? certainly no. So let us believe in chance. Accidents are chance happenings. As a human my knowledge is limited, maybe I could as well be wrong.
