Soma, Alcohol and Vedas

This entry is part [part not set] of 8 in the series Vedas - Myths and Reality

This is an analysis of the claim that Vedas talk about alcoholism or intoxication by use of some narcotic called Soma. As mentioned in a previous article, the growing popularity of Vedas in recent months seems to be the catalyst for a sudden surge in this allegation.
We received a challenge few days ago to explain our stand on this issue. We would get straight to work, explore the truth and address some of the allegations.
Allegation:
All leading scholars have asserted that Vedas speak of merits of consuming Soma or intoxicants. All Vedic Rishis were addicts of Soma.

Agniveer:

The above statement is not at all an allegation. On contrary its a fact. And its a fact that makes us admire Vedas so much. Its a fact that has compelled renowned intellectuals of the world to admire Vedas in awe. Its a fact that drives us to put our best efforts to spread the culture of Soma consumption across the world.
What needs to be understood is that this intoxication of Soma is no ordinary intoxication. It is that intoxication which inspires noble souls to relentlessly pursue the vision of universal well-being and even face harshest of miseries with a peaceful smile.
Multiple meanings of Soma
Soma has multiple meanings. However the core essence is that Soma refers to something that produces happiness, peace, relaxation and enthusiasm. Probably that is why in later era, its usage as synonym of alcohol or intoxicant got popular. After all, a hungry dog sees only meat in every body! Same goes for perverted beings.
Let us now review some alternate meanings of Soma:
– Soma refers to Moon because moonlight provides peace. That is why Mo(o)nday is Somvaar. Now is Moon a wine-shop that it is so called (assuming that Soma means alcohol or narcotic)?
– A peaceful and amicable person is called Saumya. Now if Soma means an intoxicant, then why people across different parts of India name their children Saumya? One is invited to read any dictionary to know what Saumya (सौम्य) means. Refer dictionaries of Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Bengali, Malayalam etc and you would find scores of words derived from Soma that mean friendliness.
– The famous temple of Gujarat (that was plundered by a butcher called Mahmud Ghazni) is called Somnath. If Soma means intoxicant, then perhaps the temple should have allowed it! But as referred earlier, it means a gentle lord or lord of the moon.
– Soma also refers to certain medicines that promote longevity and act as relaxant. For example, Giloya which is very useful in heart diseases and provides a cooling effect on body.
Primary meaning of Soma in Vedas
In Vedas however, in most places, Soma refers to God or Ishwar focusing on those qualities of Ishwar that provides us with peace, bliss, satisfaction and global vision. In few places esp in Atharvaveda, it has come to mean certain medicines. But nowhere can it be termed to mean a mundane intoxicant.
Thus, Rigveda 1.91.22 states that:
“O Soma, You alone create the medicines that heal us. You alone create the water that quenches our thirst. You alone create all moving objects, sense organs and living beings and also give us this life. You have provided expanse to this universe and you alone enlighten the world to eradicate darkness.”
Now only a fool would claim that Soma refers to any intoxicant or alcohol when Soma is said to be creator of universe, stars, life, objects etc. Very clearly Soma refers to the Supreme Lord – the Ishwar or God.
And hence, Soma intoxication implies entrenching oneself completely in devotion to that Supreme Lord. To see Him everywhere and guide oneself solely by His inspiration is Soma intoxication. To follow only the inner voice that communicates with us every moment and rejecting all worldly and sensory pressures is Soma intoxication. To rise completely above the old habits, past tendencies and false ego is  Soma intoxication. To surrender totally to Him is Soma intoxication.
A rough analogy would be with Superconductivity. Once a material is taken below a certain threshold temperature, suddenly resistance becomes zero. Similarly when we have practiced following our inner voice sufficiently, suddenly the world seems to different – so enlightening, so refreshing, so blissful and so blessed by Him everywhere. This stage of heightened association with Ishwar is the stage of Soma intoixcation that Vedas describe in detail.
And yes, it is only when Rishis have reached this stage that they get Vedic inspirations and are able to comprehend meaning of Vedic mantras. It is then that the Rishis ‘see’ the Vedic mantras through the eyes of intellect. In fact, one is called Rishi only after she or he has reached this enlightening stage of Soma intoxication.
Ayurveda very clearly defines what an intoxicant is:
Sharngadhar 4.21: A substance that destroys intellect is called an intoxicant.
To understand Soma better and see why it cannot refer to any material/mundane chemical even closely related to alcohol, intoxication or narcotics, let us review a few more mantras on Soma.
Rigveda 9.24.7:
Soma is not only pure in itself but also purifies everything else. Some is extremely sweet and promotes noble qualities. It destroys sinful tendencies.
Even a dumb person that understand that Soma refers to something intellectual and spiritual and not something as disgusting as alcohol or narcotics
Rigveda 9.37.36:
O Soma, purify us from everywhere. Enter us with excitement and strengthen our speech. Inculcate a sharp intellect within us.
Thus while alcohol or narcotics is taking to dumb the mind, Rishis yearn for Soma because it sharpens the mind and gears them into noble actions.
Rigveda 9.108.3:
O Soma, You purify everything. You are the best source of enlightenment. You lead us towards immortality.
Should we say more!
Atharvaveda 14.1.3:
Ordinary people consider that as Soma which is used as medicine. But the enlightened ones seek the Soma of intellect which materialistic minds cannot even comprehend!
If we review the Pavamana Parva of Samaveda Purvarchika, we can get a wider glimpse of the Vedic Soma.
It is described as something that brings enthusiasm, tolerance and valor.
1.2: O Soma, purify me.
1.3: O Soma, you are source of vitality and bliss.
1.4: O Soma, your intoxication is worth imbibing.
6.5: O Soma, you give birth to our intellect.
6.8: Use Soma to produce intellect.
9.2: Soma provides us with intelligence.
7.12: Intelligence seeks Soma.
9.6: Soma enhances intellect.
Thus while Soma produces intoxication, this intoxication actually strengthens our intellect and reduces dumbness.
2.5 of Pavamana Parva describes
Soma as Chetan or living. Thus Soma is not something inert. It is a living force that enhances intellect. It is the Supreme Lord!
How can thus a sensible person relate it with a mundane narcotic?
This Parva of Samaveda provides some more adjectives of Soma:
3.2: One who sees everything actively (Vicharshani)
5.9: Extremely intelligent (Vipra)
5.9: Best of the scholars (Angirastamah)
9.1: Expert (Vichakshanah)
8.4: Knows self (Swarvidah)
2.10: Sees everything clearly (Kavi)
3.6: Knows his duties perfectly (Kratuvit)
11.1: An intoxication that inspires us to perform duties perfectly (Kratuvittamo Madah)
8.4: One who knows the path clearly (Gatuvittamah)
1.7: Adept (Daksha)
1.8: Source of adeptness (Dakshasadhana)
4.2: Adeptness that provides happiness (Daksham Mayobhuvam)
5.11: Provides strength (Vajasatam)
6.7: Protector of world (Bhuvanasya Gopaa)

If this be not enough, the Parva also states Soma to be:
5.1: One seated on the home of immortality
6.3: One who inspires noble minds towards fundamental truth (Rita)
6.2: Speaks to us (Inner voice)

2.3: Destroys hatred
4.12: Inspires towards friendship and solidarity
4.14: Destroys meanness and violence
10.11: Destroys corrupt mindset
8.4: Devoid of sins
6.6: Provides whatever is worth obtaining
6.1: Greatest donor
7.4: Carrier of life force
4.3: Desired by non-violent minds
This is merely a small sampler from the copious references from Vedas that very clearly establish Soma as the pure blissful Ishwar and its intoxication as complete surrender to the Supreme Lord.
Vedas and intoxication
Almost every other mantra of Vedas yearn for enhancement of intellect/ health and repulsion towards all those tendencies and articles that destroy these. Be it the Gayatri Mantra or the Mrityunjaya, all exemplify this.
To conclude the discussions, let us provide a few references from Vedas that condemn intoxication.
Rigveda 10.5.6:
One becomes sinful if he or she crosses even one of the 7 restraints. Yaskacharya defines these 7 sins in his Nirukta as: Theft, Adultery, Murder of a noble person, Abortion, Dishonesty, Repeating misdeeds and consumption of alcohol.
Rigveda 8.2.12:
Those who consume intoxicants lose their intellect, talk rubbish, get naked and fight with each other.
Rigveda 7.86.6:
An action performed as per the inner voice does not lead to sins. Dumb arrogance against inner voice, however, is source of frustration and miseries in same manner as intoxication and gambling destroy us. Ishwar inspires those with noble elevated thoughts towards progress and propels down those who decide to think lowly. Lowly acts performed even in dreams cause decline.
Atharvaveda 6.70.1:
Weak minds are attracted towards meat, alcohol, sensuality and womanizing. But O non-violent mind, you focus your mind towards the world in same manner as a mother cares for her child.
In summary, intoxication is considered as recipe for weakness, failure and destruction!
Allegation:
Even Vivekananda has asserted that Vedas justified alcoholism. How do explain: “The old gods were found to be incongruous — these boisterous, fighting, drinking, beef-eating gods of the ancients — whose delight was in the smell of burning flesh and libations of strong liquor. Sometimes Indra drank so much that he fell upon the ground and talked unintelligibly. These gods could no longer be tolerated.” This is taken from http://www.ramakrishnavivekananda.info/vivekananda/volume_2/jnana-yoga/maya_and_the_evolution_of_the_conception_of_god.htm
Agniveer:
First, a lot of writings of Swami Vivekananda as published by RK Mission appear questionable as it contradicts his own writings. Many are said to be translation of his speeches. They were published after his death. We have reasons to believe that they are not authentic. In fact, almost all such allegations form part of some speech he delivered and not what he wrote by his own hands.
But even for a moment, we assume that all this is indeed written by Swami Vivekananda, it only shows that he had not studied Vedas properly and his thoughts on Vedas were influenced by western indologists.
While we respect Swami Vivekananda as a charismatic Yogic personality, powerful orator and impressive writer on neo-Vedanta, he is not an authority for us in matters of Vedas, if this is what he wrote.
We have provided with specific references from Vedas that beef and alcohol have no place in Vedic dharma. Instead of quoting personal views of Swami Vivekananda or any person for that matter, one should quote from Vedas to refute the stand that has been taken by us as well as all sages from inception of Vedas till date. Why hide behind a saint instead of arguing coherently?
By the way, another interesting point to think about is that if indeed Vedas recommend beef and alcohol, why have been the traditional Vedic Brahmins farthest from these vices for ages? Just food (not beef or alcohol!) for thought.
Allegation:
Vedic scholars like Radhakrishnan and K M Munshi – founder of Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan – have also stated that Vedic rishis used to drink alcohol and eat beef.
Agniveer:
We are not sure about Dr Radhakrishnan, but we agree that K M Munshi held such views that he expressed in his novel Lopamudra. We would only say that many works of K M Munshi have been derogatory to our ancient heritage and role models as well as are completely baseless. Several of his novels are full of vulgarity. His series on Krishna was extremely offensive. Same goes for Lopamudra. He was a political person and it is unfortunate that he treaded into an area that he shouldn’t have unless he had the right competence. The works of Bharati Vidya Bhawan in this area have been most damaging and misleading. Please refer “Vedon ka Yatarth Swaroop” by Pt Dharmadeva which comprehensively addresses false allegations of Vedic Age, Lopamudra and other derogatory texts.
But regardless of views of personalities howsomuch famous or influential – Dr Radhakrishnan, KM Munshi, Swami Vivekananda or whosoever – we would seek specific and logical references from Vedas instead of empty quotes.
Allegation:
If Soma means a medicinal plant that no one knows, then all the verses of Vedas that talk of Soma become useless today.
Agniveer:
We have already shown earlier that Soma means bliss-providing Ishwar. But even if Soma means a medicine that no one knows today, that does not make Vedas irrelevant. That only imply that humanity should strive to explore such useful medicines. A book like modern Quran that demands blind acceptance without having even the time to understand it (there is only one life as per modern scholars of Quran!) has huge number of verses that are supposed to be Gaib or incomprehensible for humans. Then what is the problem with having a vast number of verses in Vedas that are not understood by dumb minds today? After all Vedas provide you with a long cycle of rebirths to finish your homework! It also does not demand that one should complete the course of Vedas or even believe in Vedas to achieve some Heaven and escape some permanent Hell.
Allegation:
If Vedas do not talk of alcohol or intoxication, why do we have words like Soma, Mada, Madhu in Vedas that relate to intoxication.
Agniveer:
This is most stupid argument.
1. Vedas offered the first words that depicted root essence. Based on that later vocabularies were built. For example, Soma means bliss giving. Intelligent people used it to depict friendly people etc. But for people on path of decline, even alcohol is apparently bliss giving. Same for other words.
2. Don’t we have similar examples in other languages? Gay means a happy person. But what it means today is known to all of us. Interestingly older dictionaries would not even have homosexual as a meaning for gay. Meat not only means flesh but also substance of a point. In fact almost all words have multiple meanings. Only dumb people would try to distort meaning of a sentence through wrong usage.
In conclusion, the only reasons why one would see alcohol in Vedas are either they have not studied Vedas or have an antipathy towards Vedas.
For rest of us, Vedas only encourage for enhancement of intellect and knowledge. And thus condemn anything that diminishes these.
The Soma Ras of Vedas is the divine devotion of the Supreme that elevates us from all miseries, all frustrations, all doubts, all sins and galvanizes us towards virtuous actions with unimaginable enthusiasm and ultimate bliss.
May we all work together to spread pursuit of this Soma in entire universe and pray for immortality of all.
The call of Soma is for the brave. The call of Soma is for the Yajna (noble selfless actions). The call of Soma is for those warriors who have glorified themselves through constant struggle and relentless efforts. O Soma seekers, destroy the dogs of lust and greed and listen to the most beautiful melody of Soma. (Rigveda 9.101.13)

    • excellent article Agniveer Team,
I am amazed that such a noble word like soma could mean such greatness of intelligence. As far as these jihadi idiots go, they probably drink too much alcohol each day, I can say this because if they choose to interpret Soma to mean alcohol, this means they saw alcohol in every mantra.
thanks for this great education on this precious verse

The Names of Hell Hell Fire has different names in Islamic texts. Each name gives a separate description. Some of its names are:
Jaheem – fire – because of its blazing fire.
Jahannam – Hell – because of the depth of its pit.
Ladthaa – blazing fire – because of its flames.
Sa’eer – blazing flame – because it is kindled and ignited.
Saqar – because of the intensity of its heat.
Hatamah – broken pieces or debris – because it breaks and crushes everything that is thrown into it.
Haawiyah – chasm or abyss – because the one who is thrown into it is thrown from top to bottom
“They will long to leave the Fire, but never will they leave there from; and theirs will be a lasting torment.” (Quran 5:37)
“And they will never leave of the Fire.” (Quran 2:167)
“Surely, those who disbelieve and did wrong; God will not forgive them, nor will He guide them to any way except the way of Hell, to dwell therein forever.” (Quran 4:168-169)
“Surely, God has cursed the disbelievers, and has prepared for them a flaming Fire wherein they will abide for ever.” (Quran 33:64)
“And whosoever disobeys God and His Messenger, then surely, for him is the fire of Hell, he shall dwell therein forever.” (Quran 72:23)
The Keepers of Hell, Mighty and stern angels stand over Hell who never disobey God. They do precisely as ordered. God says:
“O you who believe, save yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is men and stones over which are (appointed) angels, stern and severe, who flinch not (from executing) the commands they receive from God, but do (precisely what) they are commanded.” (Quran 66:6)
They are nineteen keepers of Hell as God says:
“Soon I will cast him into Hell Fire. And what will explain to you what is Hellfire? Nothing does it allow to endure, and nothing does it leave alone! Darkening and changing the color of man! Over it are nineteen (angels as keepers of Hell).” (Quran 74:26:30)
One should not think that the inhabitants of Hell will be able to overcome the keepers of Hell because there are just nineteen of them. Everyone of them has the strength to subdue all humanity by himself. These angels are called the Guards of Hell by God in the Quran:
“And those in the Fire will say to the Guards of Hell, “Call upon your Lord to lighten for us the torment for a day!” (Quran 40:49)
The name of the chief angel guarding over Hell is Malik, as mentioned in the Quran:
“Surely, the disbelievers will be in the torment of Hell to abide therein forever. (The torment) will not be lightened for them, and they will be plunged into destruction with deep regrets, sorrows and in despair therein. We wronged them not, but they were the wrongdoers. And they will cry: ‘O Malik! Let your Lord make an end of us’ He will say: ‘Surely, you shall abide forever.’ Indeed We have brought the truth to you, but most of you have a hatred for the truth” (Quran 43:74-78)
        Its Location
There is no exact mention from the Quran or the sayings of Prophet Muhammad which pinpoint the location of Hell. No one knows its exact place except God. Due to some linguistic evidence and context of certain hadeeth, some scholars have stated that Hell is in the heavens, yet others say it is in the lower earth.
Its Size, Hell is huge and immensely deep. We know this through several ways.
First, innumerable people will enter Hell, each, as described in a hadeeth, with the molar teeth as large as a small mountain.[1] The distance between the shoulders of its inhabitants has also been described as being equivalent to three days of walking.[2] Hell will house all the unbelievers and sinners from the beginning of time and there will still be room for more. God says:
“On the Day when We will say to Hell: ‘Are you filled?’ It will say, ‘Are there any more (to come)?’” (Quran 50:30)
The Fire of Hell is likened to a mill that grinds thousands and thousands of tons of grain and then waits for more to come.
Second, a stone thrown from the top of Hell will take a very long time to reach the bottom. One of the companions of the Prophet, may God praise him, describes how they were sitting with the Prophet and heard the sound of something falling. The Prophet inquired if they knew what it was. When they expressed their lack of knowledge, he said:
“That was a stone thrown into Hell seventy years ago and it is yet in the way (the other side) of Hell until now.”[3]
        Another report states:
“If a stone as big as seven pregnant camels was thrown from the edge of Hell, it would fly through it for seventy years, and yet it would not reach the bottom.”[4]
Third, a great many angels will bring Hell on the Day of Resurrection. God speaks of it:
“And Hell will be brought near that Day.” (Quran 89:23)
        The Prophet said:
“Hell will be brought forth that Day by means of seventy thousand ropes, each of which will be held by seventy thousand angels.”[5]
Fourth, another report that indicates the vast size of Hell is that the sun and moon will be rolled up in Hell on the Day of Resurrection.[6] Its Levels Hell has various levels of heat and punishment, each is reserved according to the extent of their disbelief and sins of those being punished. God says:
“Surely, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depths (grade) of the Fire.” (Quran 4:145) The lower the level of Hell, the greater is the intensity of heat. Since the hypocrites will suffer the worst punishment, so will they be in the lowest part of Hell.
God refers to the levels of Hell in the Quran:
“For all will be (ranked) by degrees according to what they did.” (Quran 6:132)
“Is one who seeks the good pleasure of God then like the one who draws on himself the wrath of God? His abode is Hell – and worst, indeed, is that destination! They are in varying grades with God, and God is All-Seer of what they do.” (Quran 3:162-163)
The Gates of Hell God speaks of seven Gates of Hell in the Quran: “And surely, Hell is the promised place for them all. It has seven gates, for each of these gates is a class of sinners assigned.” (Quran 15:43-44)
Each gate has an allotted share of the damned who will enter through it. Each will enter according to his deeds and assigned a level of Hell accordingly. When the unbelievers are brought to Hell, its gates will open, they will enter it, and stay in it forever:
“And those who disbelieved will be driven to Hell in groups until, when they reach it, its gates are opened and its keepers will say, ‘Did there not come to you messengers from yourselves, reciting to you the verses of your Lord and warning you of the meeting of this Day of yours?’ They will say, ‘Yes, but the word (meaning the decree) of punishment has come into effect upon the disbelievers.’” (Quran 35:71)
They will be told after admission:
“Enter the gates of Hell to abide eternally therein, and wretched is the residence of the arrogant.” (Quran 39:72)
The gates will be shut and there will be no hope of escape as God says:
“But those who reject Our signs, they are the companions of the left hand. On them will be Fire vaulted over (meaning the gates will be locked).[7]” (Quran 90:19-20)
Furthermore, God says in the Quran: “Woe to every scorner and mocker, who collects wealth and (continuously) counts it. He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal. No! He will surely be thrown into the Crusher. And what can make you know what is the Crushers? It is the fire of God, (eternally) fueled, Which mounts directed at the hearts. Indeed, it (Hellfire) will be closed down upon them in extended columns.” (Quran 104:1-9)
The gates of Hell are also closed before the Day of Judgment. The Prophet of Islam spoke of them closing in the month of Ramadan.[8] Its Fuel
Stones and stubborn unbelievers make the fuel of Hell as God says:
“O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones.” (Quran 66:6)
“then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.” (Quran 2:24)
Another source of fuel for Hell will be the pagan gods that were worshipped besides God:
“Indeed, you (disbelievers) and what you worship other than God are the firewood of Hell. You will be coming to (enter) it. Had these (false deities) been (actual) gods, they would not have come to it, but all are eternal therein.” (Quran 21:98-99)
The Clothing of its Inhabitants God tells us that the dress of the people of Hell will be garments of fire tailored for them:
“But those who disbelieved will have cut out for them garments of fire. Poured upon their heads will be scalding water.” (Quran 22:19)
“And you will see the criminals that Day bound together in shackles, their garments of liquid pitch (melted copper) and their faces covered by the Fire.” (Quran 14:49-50)

      • ANCIENT MYTHOLOGY IS SYMBOLIC THEOLOGY. VEDIC AND ANCIENT GREEK SAGES MAKE CLEAR THAT THE MANY GODS ARE THE PERSONIFIED DEEDS OF THE ONE GOD. SO MYTHOLOGY IS A POETIC THEOLOGY AND PHILOSOPHY. ME, AS A CHRISTIAN THEOLOGER, I FIND THE MYTHOLOGICAL WAY TO EXPRESS THE THEOLOGICAL MEANINGS MORE DEVELOPED.
ISLAM IS A MONISTIC RELIGION THAT MAKES GOD DISAPROACHED AS INNERAL EXPERIENCE, AND SHOWS HIM AS A STRICT PUNNISHER. BUT GOD FORGIVES IMMEDIATELLY IF HE SEES REAL PENANCE. WE GET THE EXPERIENCE OF GOD WHEN WE APPROACH HIM BY LOVE, NOT BY FEAR. I HAVE RED IN RIG VEDA 7,18,21:
“WE COME TO YOUR JUDGMENT WITH PLEASURE BECOUSE WE LOVE YOU!”
THIS IS REAL COMMUNION WITH GOD!

  1. Dear Agniveerji and all the team, I wish to heartily thank you all for the great work you are doing. I now feel that we Hindus now have a powerful weapon to defend ourselves from all the allegations and the mud-slinging that has been going on against the Sanatana Dharma for so long. I can now face my pseudo-secular friends with confidence and strong evidence about what is the truth and what is not.

    • THAT’S TRUE SIDDARTH.
ALSO IT IS WE HINDUS WHO ACTUALLY MADE THE TRUE CONTRIBUTIIONS TO SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN THE ANCIENT TIMES
      ARABS ACTUALLY COPIED FROM US…………
ALSO, MUSLIMS ARGUE THAT ALGEBRA IS DERIVED FROM THE WORD “AL-JABR” INVENTED BY
      Muhammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwārizmī
BUT THER TENT TO FORGET THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WHICH I HAVE GIVEN HERE:
“While the word algebra comes from the Arabic language (al-jabr, الجبر literally, restoration) and much of its methods from Arabic/Islamic mathematics, its roots can be traced to earlier traditions, most notably ancient Indian mathematics, which had a direct influence on Muhammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwārizmī (c. 780–850). He learned Indian mathematics and introduced it to the Muslim world through his famous arithmetic text, Book on Addition and Subtraction after the Method of the Indians. He later wrote The Compendious Book on Calculation by Completion and Balancing, which established algebra as a mathematical discipline that is independent of geometry and arithmetic”
      ALL THE BEST…
      MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS……….
MOST OF THE “MIRACLES” CLAIMED BY MUSLIMS ARE ACTUALLY BORROWED FROM US HINDUS
      OR YAVANAV(GREEKS), BABYLONIANS, ETC.
      BUT,
EVEN TO BABYLONIANS, GREEKS EUROPEANS, ETC..,
IT WAS OUR SACRED TEXTS OF SULBHASOOTHRAS OF VEDAS THAT PROVIDED AS THE SOURCE OF INSPIRATION.
      PROOF FOR THE ABOVE STATEMENT:
Abraham Seidenberg, author of the authoritative “History of Mathematics,” credits the Sulba Sutras as inspiring all mathematics of the ancient world from Babylonia to Egypt to Greece.
VOLTAIRE , (the famous French writer and philosopher) stated that “Pythagoras went to the Ganges to learn geometry.”
VOLTAIRE: “EVERY THING CAME DOWN TO US FROM THE BANKS OF THE GANGES”………
When the Yajur Veda was presented to Voltaire, he expressed his belief that the Veda was the most precious gift for which the West had ever been indebted to the East.”

      • Saroj ji,
You seem to have known lot about your arguments. Why dont you prepare an article with facts and references and post on this website?

  2. Agniveer,
I am taking the liberty to explain this further with further examples. The misunderstanding around the hymns pertaining toSoma and so many other forces in the Vedas arises due to half baked knowledge of many commentators – Indian and Foreign. They do not read complete Suktas and do not refer to the drift of hymns upstream and downstream. And they add their own Abrahamic condisioning and Victorian sense of morality to the Vedic hymns.
Soma’s distortion and asinine commentaries is a prime example of this. It does not matter whether people aeons ago drank something intoxicating or not. What’s key is that in the Vedas, while Soma has attributes like that of an intoxicating drink, it is about the eternal, blissful, self realizing forces. In a way Soma is deathlessness. I will walk you through a bunch of verses to substantiate my point.
These hymns talk about Soma (the wine). You will see that while the superficial meaning will alllude to a beverage, the deeper philosophical meaning points to the bliss of immortality after knowing the ONE. Even Swami Vivekananda got it wrong when he said that the ancestors drank Soma – the wine. This is a pretty lengthy post..can’t help it…
    Rig Veda/Mandala 9/Hymn 86/ 1 -7
    1. Thy gladdening draughts, O Pavamana, urged by song flow swiftly of themselves like sons of fleet-foot mares. The drops of Soma juice, those eagles of the heavens, most cheering, rich in meath, rest in the reservoir.
    2. As rapid chariot-steeds, so turned in several ways have thine exhilarating juices darted forth, Soma-drops rich in meath, waves, to the Thunder-armed, to Indra, like milch-kine who seek their calf with milk.
    3. Like a steed urged to battle, finder of the light; speed onward to the cloud-born reservoir of heaven, A Steer that o’er the woolly surface seeks the sieve, Soma while purified for Indra’s nourishment.
    4. Fleet as swift steeds, thy drops, divine, thought-swift, have been, O Pavamana, poured with milk into the vat. The Rsis have poured in continuous Soma drops, ordainers who adorn thee, Friend whom Rsis love.
    5. O thou who seest all things, Sovran as thou art and passing strong, thy rays encompass all abodes. Pervading with thy natural powers thou flowest on, and as the whole world’s Lord, O Soma, thou art King.
    6. The beams of Pavamana, sent from earth and heaven, his ensigns who is ever steadfast, travel round. When on the sieve the Golden-hued is cleansed, he rests within the vats as one who seats him in his place.
    7. Served with fair rites he flows, ensign of sacrifice: Soma advances to the special place of Gods. He speeds with thousand currents to the reservoir, and passes through the filter bellowing as a bull.
Now,please watch for the “obvious” meaning. Who are the fleet footed mares that drop the Soma juice? Indra seems to be consuming the juice & then Indra gets nourished. The Rishis have poured this juice into a jar. And then Soma travels to the Abode of God’s heavens. Can you make any sense out of this?
Let us deep dive to understand the true meaning.
Fleet footed mares – Aswinis, the nervous energies. This thought is based on the consistent theme of Aswinis being “fleet footed” all through the Rig Veda
Soma / Pavamana – wine of immortality
Indra is always likened to the thunderbolt.
If one reads the entire mandala#9,it beomes clear that the Soma juice is squeezed out of Indra’s weapons, a pressing stone, connected to Indra’s thunderbolt. After this the wine(delight of immortality)is “purified”through a “strainer” & then the wine is saved in a jar or kalasa. Th Soma juice is used as an external symbol for ritualistic rite in hymn #7 but Soma advancing towards Gods pertains to the purified mental & emotional conciousness rushing towards immortality as the human intellect attains God’s abode. The Rishis that poured the Soma drops is an allegorical reference to the seers that discovered immortality or the eternal bliss.
The Vedic hyms are veiled, unveiled & filled with intrigue. The positive proof of who Soma is,comes, only towards the end of the 9th Mandala (Hymn 113/7 – 10).
7.O Pavarnana, place me in that deathless, undecaying world Wherein the light of heaven is set, and everlasting lustre shines. Flow, Indu, flow for Indra’s sake.
8.Make me immortal in that realm where dwells the King, Vivasvan’s Son,Where is the secret shrine of heaven, where are those waters young and fresh. Flow, Indu, flow for Indra’s sake.
    9. Make me immortal in that realm where they move even as they list, In the third sphere of inmost heaven where lucid worlds are full of light. Flow, Indu, flow for Indra’s sake.
    10. Make me immortal in that realm of eager wish and strong desire,The region of the radiant Moon, where food and full delight are found. Flow, Indu, flow for Indra’s sake:
    11. Make me immortal in that realm where happiness and transports, where Joys and felicities combine, and longing wishes are fulfilled. Flow, Indu, flow for Indra’s sake.
We started with Soma being an alcoholic beverage but we ended up with Soma being the ambrosia of immortality.
The key take away is that there are deeper meanings in these hymns than just ritualistic streaks & without reading the Mandalas & Suktas end to end, any assumptions, like Soma wine being an alcoholic beverage, leads to the most asinine interpretations.

  3. “Soma according to Caraka Samhita is the king of herbs having fifteen nodes and increasing and decreasing according to the conditions of the moon;…Of these plants whichever are available should be taken in the form of juice in full quantity….In six months he becomes similar to gods in age , complexion, voice, face, strength and lustre; all the knowledge appears intuitively, he attains divine vision and audition, movement of thousand yojanas and unaffiliated life-span of a thousand years.(7) ..
The effect of the divine herbs can be tolerated only by the person like you and not by those with uncontrolled self. By the effect of these herbs you will attain all benefits while performing your normal duties. These herbs growing in holy lands can be used by Forrest dwellers as well as house holders with proper carefulness and self-control(8-10)
….These herbs exert milder effect in case of different habitat, subject and mode of administration though the method of intake is the same for all. The person with luxurious living who are unable to search or use them them should resort to other methods of Rasayana which are described hereunder.
(11-12) Fourth quarter on the chapter on Rasayana
In chapter 14 they talk about alcohol social and the ill effects of alcohol and the stages of drunkenness similiar to modern science. So when they say it is a juice of a plant it cannot be alcohol but the juice of the plant otherwise they would have mentioned alcohol as they knew what it was. It is shameful the babus and secular education propagates these nonsense belief in order to promote corruption and to degrade Hindu Dharma. These quotes are from Caraka Samhita, translated PV Sharma Volume II, published by Chaukhambha Orientalia 2000.
Historically also Hindus were known not to drinking as drinking was not part of Hindu culture as anyone who swore Brahmachary knows that that because of those vows neither they will ever drink nor eat non-veg which was a prominent part of the culture of Hindus.
So lets gives that Historically up to the time before India enters the Dark ages.
“He describes with admiration the wealth and the prosperity , the virtue and the happiness, of the Hindu people, and the social and religious liberty which they enjoyed. He was astonished at the number, size , and population of the great cities , at the free hospitals and other charitable institutions which dotted the land, at the number of students in the university and monasteries, and at the imposing scale and splendor of the imperial palaces. Fa-Hien after risking his life in passing through western China, found himself quite safe in India, traveling everywhere without encountering molestation and thievery. His description was quite utopian ….
“”The people are numerous and happy; They do not registrar their households, or attend to any magistrate or their rules; only those who cultivate the royal land have to pay a portion of the gain from it. . If they want to go they go; if they want to stay they stay. The king governs without decapitation or corporal punishment. Criminals are simply fined;, even in case of wicket rebellion they only have their right hands cut off….Throughout the whole country the people do not kill any living creature, nor eat onions or garlic. the only exception is that of the chandalas… In that country they do not keep pigs and fowls, do not sell live cattle; in the markets there are no butchers’ shop, and no dealers of intoxicating drinks.””Page 451-452 “Our Oriental Heritage”, by Will Durant
So if we go further back in History to the the time Chandragupta Maurya “They live happily enough , being simple in their manners, and frugal. They never drink wine except at sacrifice…The simplicity of their laws and their contracts is proved by the fact that they seldom go to the law. They have no suits about pledges and deposits, nor they require either seals or witnesses, but make their deposits and confide in each other….Truth and virtue they hold alike in esteem….The greater part of the soil is under irrigation, and consequently bears two crops in the course of the year… It is accordingly affirmed that famine has never visited India, and there has never been a general scarcity in the supply of nourishing food”…It struck him as favorable contrast from his own nation that they were no slavery in India Megasthenese, Pages 441″Our Oriental Heritage”, by Will Durant
After these times traditions of Brahmachary and universally attribution of invaders and destruction of education institutes ushering in the dark ages, where caste and other divisions become of predominance, and other backward traditions like Bribe burning these are all product of dark ages..

  4. Thank you Agniveer. It is nice to know that the word “Saumya” is derivative of the word “Soma” Hundreds of modern Hindu girls have lovingly sport their name as “Sowmya ‘ in Karnataka and the meaning given to the word by you is totally correct. No parent would have named their daughter as Somya if it has anything to do with the cursed Alcohol

  5. Fools follow fools, agniver and shameless fellow team. You are being fool by this fellow Agniveer.
See again full of confusion Soma has so many meanings and he is trying to put them in Porny Vedas.
I feel pity for you all but do not worry we have done nearly 50% of our work in India and in next 15 Yrs we will complete rest with Zakir Bahi and our Saudi brother plus Sonia and MMS Jis help.

William Gomes, a Bangladeshi ex-Muslim and contributor to Islam-watch, attacked by thugs of pro-Islam Bangladesh Nationlist Party activists, while police play silent spectators…
I am William Gomes from Dhaka, Bangladesh. I am former Muslim, now a Christian. I work as a freelance journalist and human rights activist. I monitor incidents of violence on minorities in Bangladesh, and work toward protection of their human rights.
On Wednesday evening, 23 September 2009, the local leader of pro-Islam Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) suddenly attacked my cousin Mohammed Faruk, who came to visit us with his wife. When my father and mother ran to save him, they hurt them as well.
When I ran to the place, they started threatening me that since I have converted to Christianity, I cannot live in that place; I must leave the area now; otherwise, they will kill me. Before for my conversion to Christianity, the people were telling around that they would to kill me if I converted.
I ran from there to my house, and called the local police. The police came to my place. And within a moment, more than 100 thugs came with the local BNP leaders, Mohammed Mijan Bandari and Mohammed Mojibar, and entered my house. I urged the police to make them leave my house, but they ignored my request. The crowd stood their ground in my house, and continued threatening me.
Finally, to save myself from the angry crowd, I followed the police to police station. There I filed a general diary (G.D.). Later on, the perpetrators came with a huge crowd threatening my parents, and forced them to file a memorandum saying that everything has been settled.
The police played a silent spectator in this incident. My family and I remain in fear of persecution and violence by the local Muslim thugs. We feel helpless.
I appeal to Bangladesh government and international community to work toward protection of minorities in Bangladesh, and ensure their human rights.

      • Pakistan’s ‘Blasphemy Law’ & Its Cruelties
Sunday, 27 March 2011 04:49 Dr. Radhasyam Brahmachari
        E-mail Print PDF
When the world’s 1.5 billion Muslims want to project Muhammad — who was a vile rapist, pedophile, mass murderer, plunderer and robber — as a pious soul and a prophet, they can do so only in engaging in barbaric laws and actions.
Why Muslims are so sensitive to defamation of Muhammad
Islamic religious concepts and practices include the five pillars of Islam, called arkan al-Islam, namely (1) the shahadah (creed), (2) daily prayers (salat), (3) almsgiving (zakah), (4) fasting during Ramadan and (5) pilgrimage to Mecca (hajj) at least once in a lifetime. The Shia and Sunni sects both agree on the essential details for the performance of these acts.
The Shahadah, which is the basic foundation of Islam, contains six oaths or kalemas, and the first kalema, namely kalema Taib, is most important. It says “La Ilaha Illallah, Muhammadur rasulullah”, i.e. “Allah is the only God to be worshipped and Muhammad is the Prophet of Allah”. This kalema is considered the “soul” of Islam. Slightest doubt in it will make even a devout Muslim “an apostate” at once, who is to be killed.
Islam does not have strong philosophical basis; instead, it commands blind belief in the most irrational and unscientific dictates of the Koran and Sunnah. It has survived the past 14 centuries on this blind faith and fear psychosis. If a Muslim derails from this belief system, he/she would risk even his/her life. Islam is, therefore, may be imagined as an extremely brittle glassware hanging in the air with the help of a delicate thread, called kalema Taib. So, if reverence or faith in the Prophethood of Muhammad weakens, the fine thread kalema Taib would snap and entire edifice of Islam would collapse.
Therefore, the image of Muhammad is strictly guarded from suffering any damage. He was the perfect man ever. His deeds should always be praised. He must be projected as an apostle of peace and compassion, notwithstanding his extremely cruel deeds. No one is to be allowed to make critical comments on his life and actions. Divinity must be sought in his marrying 12 (or 22) wives in his declining years, even in his marrying of 6-year-old Aisha at the age of 52. Any thought contrary to this paradigm should be labeled as “blasphemy” and such blasphemers should be punished with death. Even simple statement of facts of his life, which may unmask his true color, must also be treated as blasphemy.
Saying truth about Muhammad’s life is also blasphemous
The Kolkata-based English daily Statesman ran on 5 February, 2009 an article of award-winning British journalist and writer Johann Hari, entitled Why should I respect these oppressive religions?—earlier published in The Independent. In it, he wrote, “I don’t respect the idea that we should follow a ‘Prophet’ who at the age of 53 had sex with a nine-year old girl, and ordered the murder of whole villages of Jews because they wouldn’t follow him.” What Mr Hari wrote is fact proudly documented in revered Islamic literature, but Muslims considered it a blasphemy of Muhammad by Hari.
        muslim-mob-protest-johann-hari-statesman-calcutta
        Muslims protesting against Statesman
After republication of the article by Statesman, angry Muslims organized demonstrations in front of paper’s office in Calcutta. Muslims allied with the Jamiat-e-Ulema e Hind (The Organisation of Indian Scholars, a leading Islamic group in India) filed a complaint with police alleging that the publication had “outraged their religious feelings”, which is an offence under Section 295 A of the Indian Penal Code.
Police arrested the Statesman’s editor Ravindra Kumar and publisher Anand Sinha on charges of “hurting the religious feelings” of Muslims and produced them in court. Kumar said he had already issued a public apology for reproducing the article. “I admit it was an editorial misjudgement but it was never intentional,” Kumar told the BBC.
Demonstration by Muslim protesters, including attack on police and blockade on streets, continued for days. When police tried to chase away the protesters to restore order, “Demonstrators threw stones, soda bottles and shoes injuring four cops. Some agitators later took shelter in a nearby mosque and threw stones, empty bottles and shoes targeting policemen.” On February 8, more than 20 people, including four policemen, were injured in a clash that broke out when police tried to clear Lenin Sarani.
        Blasphemy law in Pakistan
Today, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is one of the most notorious for applying “blasphemy laws” to prohibit and punish blasphemy against religion. While the law in theory is designed to prevent blasphemy against all religions, it only applies to Islam. Penalties for blasphemy under this law range from a fine and prison term to death. Apart from judicial procedure, an accusation of blasphemy commonly leads to extrajudicial harassment, threats and attacks.
According to the constitution (Article 2), Islam is the state religion of Pakistan. By the constitution’s Article 31, it is the country’s duty to foster the Islamic way of life. By Article 33, it is the several sections of Pakistan’s Criminal Code comprise its blasphemy laws. Article 295 forbids damaging or defiling a place of worship or a sacred object. Article 295-A forbids outraging religious feelings. Article 295-B forbids defiling the Quran. Article 295-C forbids defaming the prophet Muhammad. Except for 295-C, the provisions of 295 require that an offence be a consequence of the accused’s intent. Defiling the Quran merits imprisonment for life. Defaming Muhammad merits death with or without a fine. If a charge is laid under 295-C, the trial must take place in a Court of Session with a Muslim judge presiding.
        Article 298 states:
Whoever, with the deliberate intention of wounding the religious feelings of any person, utters any word or makes any sound in the hearing of that person or makes any gesture in the sight of that person or places any object in the sight of that person, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine, or with both.
Article 298-A prohibits the use of any derogatory remark or representation in respect of Muslim holy personages. Articles 298-B and 298-C prohibit the Ahmadiyya from behaving as Muslims, and the violator is liable to imprisonment up to three years and a fine. Article 45 of the Constitution says, “The President shall have power to grant pardon, reprieve and respite, and to remit, suspend or commute any sentence passed by any court, tribunal or other authority.” It is claimed that, no judicial execution has so far occurred under the charge of blasphemy in Pakistan. On Jan. 12, 2011, Prime Minister of Pakistan Yousuf Raza Gilani once again said that there would be no amendments to the blasphemy law.
However, the punishment for the defamation of Prophet Muhammad is death under the provision Article 295C. The Federal Sharia Court (FSC) also maintains this view and says, “The penalty for contempt of the Holy Prophet… is death”. Those accused of blaspheming Muhammad are subject to immediate incarceration, and are denied bail to forestall mob violence. It is common for those, accused of blasphemy, to be put in solitary confinement for their protection from other inmates and guards. Those, who have served a sentence for blasphemy or acquitted of the charge, usually go into hiding or leave Pakistan.
In May 2010, Pakistan blocked access to Facebook, because the website hosted a page, called Everybody Draw Muhammad Day. Pakistan lifted the block after Facebook prevented access to the page. In June 2010, Pakistan blocked seventeen websites for hosting content, which the authorities considered offensive to Muslims. At the same time, Pakistan began to monitor the content of Google,Yahoo, YouTube, Amazon, MSN, Hotmail, and Bing.
        Application of the Law
Between 1986 and 2007, Pakistani authorities charged 647 people with offences under the blasphemy law. Ironically, 50% of the people charged were non-Muslims, while they constitute only 3% of the total population. So, it is often said that Pakistan’s blasphemy law is used as a tool for persecuting the minority religious communities. It is also interesting to note that 20 of the accused were murdered by fanatic Islamists and mobs.
The recent incident that aroused international attention is the case of Christian woman Asia Bibi (Noreen), who was sentenced to death in November 2010 on charges of blasphemy. An appeal against the verdict now sits before the Lahore High Court. Meanwhile, the Punjab Governor Salman Taseer, who felt outraged by the bogus charge against Asia Bibi and demanded amendment of the law, was shot dead by his own security guard.
His support for the acquittal of Asia Bibi and changes in the blasphemy law attracted mass protests across Pakistan. Imams of Mosques accused Salman Taseer of defying Prophet Mohammed and demanded death sentenced for him. On December 12, 2010, major Islamic parties in Pakistan launched a campaign for upholding the sanctity of Muhammad against the proposed amendment in blasphemy laws.
Next, not long after assassination of Taseer, Shahbaz Bahtti — a Christian and the Federal Minister for Minorities Affairs — was assassinated on March 2 by unknown assailants in Islamabad. Bhatti was killed, because he had been struggling to bring changes in the blasphemy law.
A few other cases of blasphemy
In another case, the Lahore High Court, in July 2010, ordered the release of Zaibun Nisa, a woman who was jailed in 1996 on a charge of blasphemy. While a complaint that a Quran had been defiled by her was investigated by police, her lawyer reported: “There was no evidence linking her to the crime.”
In July 2010, a trader in Faisalabad complained that one of his employees had been handed over a pamphlet, which contained derogatory remarks about Muhammad. According to police, the pamphlet appeared to have been issued by Christian Pastor Rashid Emmanuel and his brother Sajid. Both brothers denied the charge, and they were arrested without investigating the alleged offence. While policemen were escorting the brothers from a district court, fanatic Islamist gunmen shot and killed both the brothers.
Minister Shahbaz Bhatti’s death may have been linked to the case of Emmanuel brother. Pakistani cleric Allama Ahmed Mian Hammadi has claimed that Minister Bhatti had himself committed blasphemy by branding the Christian brothers, recently murdered, as victims of Pakistan blasphemy laws. Bhatti had said that the murder of Rashid Emmanuel, 30, and his brother Sajid, 27, by unidentified masked gunmen inside a courthouse in Faisalabad was highly deplorable.
Pakistani Urdu daily, Daily Jasarat, had earlier quoted cleric Mr Hammadi as saying: “Muslims cannot tolerate blasphemy against Muhammad.” Hammadi added: “It is not a cruelty to kill blasphemers, rather blasphemy itself is such an enormous brutality that the one who commits it neither has got a right to live in this world nor is there any pardon for the blasphemer… Muslims won’t tolerate even a slightest blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad. If Shahbaz Bhatti committed blasphemy he would be beheaded.”
The interesting part of Pakistan’s “blasphemy law” saga is that Islam needs to legislate laws and murder people to save the image of Muhammad. There are many great men like Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ, Guru Nanak, Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa et al, the followers of whom do not require such barbaric means (at least not any more) to protect their image. It is no wonder either that when the world’s 1.5 billion Muslims want to project Muhammad, who was evidently a vile rapist, pedophile, mass murderer, plunderer and robber, as a pious soul and a prophet; they can do so only in engaging in such barbaric acts and means.

    • Islamic Extremism and Terrorism in Bangladesh
      Bluma Zuckerbrot-Finkelstein
      By Bluma Zuckerbrot-Finkelstein
When the predominantly Sunni Muslim country of Bangladesh was established as a secessionist state from Pakistan in 1971, its constitution declared that it would be both democratic and secular. Periods of democratic rule, however, were interrupted by coups, martial law, and states of emergency. In 1988, the Bangladeshi parliament approved a constitutional amendment making Islam the state religion of Bangladesh.
The country is currently ruled by Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia of the center-right Bangladesh National Party (BNP). Today, Bangladesh considers itself a moderate Islamic state, home to the world’s third-largest Muslim population.
Several factors account for the rise of Islamic extremism in Bangladesh. Islamic radicals have exploited the weakness of state institutions, the loose governmental hold on outlying rural regions, and perceived official waste, corruption and inefficiency. Saudi and Gulf funding for tens of thousands of Bangladeshi mosques and madrassas has helped create a nationwide network of indoctrination and recruitment for Islamic extremism.
In an effort to defeat the Awami League (AL), the major political party that had ruled the nation from 1996-2001, the BNP entered into an alliance with two Islamic parties that seek the theocratization of Bangladesh, the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh (JEI) and Islami Oikya Jote/Islamic Unity Alliance (IOJ), as well as with a dissident faction of the secular Jatiya Party. In the October 2001 parliamentary elections, the BNP alliance captured 215 seats (BNP: 191, coalition partners: 24) against the Awami League’s acquisition of only 62 seats.
This BNP-Islamic coalition strengthened countrywide forces supporting the Islamization of Bangladesh and the imposition of the rule of sharia (Islamic law). Many of the leading Islamic radicals active today in Bangladesh came through the ranks of JEI’s youth wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) and reportedly continue to maintain contacts with the organization.
The extent of government support for Islamic extremist activities is unclear. At the least, the coalition has sent a clear message to Muslim radicals that the government will tolerate extremist rhetoric and actions. At the worst, members of the government are actively engaged in Islamic extremist activities. Several cabinet ministers have been identified with direct involvement in militant activities, and support for Islamic extremist activities is said to be widespread among Bangladeshi policemen and army officers.
      Harassment of Opponents and Minorities
To be sure, in the wake of the coalition’s formation, Islamic militants have increased their harassment of, and attacks on, the political opposition, religious and sectarian minorities, and secular intellectuals, journalists, and citizens.
The secular opposition Awami League (AL) is a primary target of Islamic extremists. In August 2004, Islamic militants tried to assassinate AL opposition leader Sheikh Hasina at a political rally. AL politician Ivy Rehman was killed in a grenade attack along with twenty others, and hundreds of people were injured. In January 2005, a grenade attack on an AL rally killed a former finance minister, his nephew, and three AL activists.
Islamic militants have also harassed, persecuted, and attacked members of the minority Hindu, Christian, and Buddhist populations and a Muslim sectarian minority, the Ahmadiyya. In the rural areas of the country, Islamic militants are forcing women to wear the veil and men to grow beards, and reported cases of torture and death for those who fail to comply are rising.
Activists from the coalition’s two Islamic parties harass and intimidate newspapers and individual journalists who expose Islamic militant activities in Bangladesh. In August 2004, junior coalition party IOJ participated in rallies against the Bengali daily newspaper Prothom Alo for its alleged “defamatory reports” against unregistered Islamic seminaries. Addressing one of the rallies, the IOJ chairman, Fazlul Haq Amini, reportedly referred to the editor and publisher of the newspaper as the “agents of the American and Jewish axis.”
Training Ground and Sanctuary for Terrorists
After the fall of the Taliban and the closing of terrorist bases in Afghanistan in 2001, many Islamic militants settled in Bangladesh and established terrorist training camps there. The training bases, which are spread throughout the country, train Bangladeshis as well as foreign fighters to wage jihad in other countries.
Bangladesh also serves as a sanctuary for Pakistani-based terrorists operating in India and Indian-held Kashmir. Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET), for example, is believed to have opened a branch in Bangladesh to provide logistic support to LET operations on Indian soil.
According to a 2005 Awami League report on Islamic extremism in Bangladesh, there were at least 34 bomb blasts in the country between 1999 and February 2005. The blasts, which killed 164 people and wounded over 1,700 others, primarily targeted the AL, cultural and entertainment places, and religious shrines.
A new, more deadly wave of terrorist violence was inaugurated with the August 2005 serial blasts across the country. On August 17, Islamic militants set off nearly 500 bombs across the country. Since then, terrorists have targeted government buildings and public places with low-grade explosives, attacked lawyers and judges with higher-grade explosives intended to cause human fatalities, and faxed threats of attack against the U.S., British, and other Western diplomatic missions.
Support for Osama bin Ladin and Al-Qaida
In recent years, Bangladesh is suspected of becoming a haven and breeding ground for Islamic terrorist groups with links to Al-Qaida. Domestic Islamic extremist groups are said to funnel Al-Qaida money, arms, and fighters through the country.
In March 1999, IOJ chairman Amini told a public meeting: “We are for Osama [bin Ladin], we are for the Taliban, and we will be in government in 2000 through an Islamic revolution.”
Bangladeshi support for Osama bin Ladin and Al-Qaida rose following the September 11 attacks and the subsequent American assault on the Taliban in Afghanistan. The U.S. conveyed its displeasure with Dhaka’s failure to quell anti-American, pro-Osama bin Ladin rallies in the wake of the American attack on Afghanistan. In November 2001, IOJ’s Amini said: “Osama bin Ladin is loved by the Bangladeshi people. Everyone respects him and considers him to be a leader of Muslims.”
      Sectarian-Based Islamic Extremism and Violence
Founded in 1889, the Ahmadiyya movement is a small, Muslim minority sect whose beliefs are widely viewed as heretical in the larger Muslim world. The 100,000 Ahmadis in Bangladesh have suffered from bouts of discrimination and violence for years, but these trends have intensified in recent years with the increase in Islamic radicalism and violence in Bangladesh. Leading the campaign against the perceived heresy of the Ahmadiyyas is the International Khatme Nabuwat Movement Bangladesh (IKNMB), which engages in verbal and physical assaults on Ahmadiyya Muslims and has been pressuring the government to declare the Ahmadis to be non-Muslim. IKNMB is linked to the ruling BNP through its connections to the JEI and IOJ.
The IKNMB has on several occasions violently attacked Ahmadiyya leaders, mosques, and worshipers. In October 2003, a JEI leader in Jessore, Maulana Aminur Rahman, led a mob attack in which a local Ahmadiyya leader was killed. In October 2004, an IKNMB-led mob of 300 launched an attack on the Ahmadi mosque in Brahmanbaria, northeast of Dhaka, pelting worshipers with stones and attacking them with axes. Eleven Ahmadis were seriously injured in the attack. In April 2005, an IKNMB mob attacked members of the Ahmadiyya community in a remote village in Bangladesh’s southwestern Satkhira district, injuring at least twenty-five people. The mob sought to hang a sign on the Ahmadi mosque stating that it was, in fact, not a mosque. The government has to date failed to prosecute anyone for these attacks.
The growing intensity of Islamic extremist persecution and violence against the Ahmadis is but one aspect of the Bangladeshi government’s increasing support for Islamic militancy.
Leading Bangladeshi Extremist Groups with Links to Global Jihad
Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB)
Formed in the late 1990s, the two organizations, said to be sister/twin organizations, seek the violent creation of an Islamic, sharia-based state in Bangladesh.
The JMB has been led by a triumvirate consisting of Maulana Abdur Rahman, 50, a former activist of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JEI), Siddiqul Islam alias Bangla Bhai, also a leader of the JMJB, and Muhammad Asadullah al-Ghalib, the chief of another Islamic outfit, Ahle Hadith Andolon Bangladesh (AHAB). Abdur Rahman is considered JMB’s spiritual leader, while Bangla Bhai is reportedly its operational chief. The JMB/JMJB leadership suffered a significant setback when Bangladeshi authorities arrested Ghalib in February 2005 and Rahman and Bhai in March 2006.
JMB is closely linked with the ruling coalition’s JEI. Many of its members are drawn from the Islamic Chhatra Shibir (ICS)—the JEI’s student wing. The JMB is a multilayered organization with finance, public relations, external relations, recruitment, intelligence and military wings. It is said to have terrorist training bases across Bangladesh and about 10,000 full-time and 100,000 part-time members.
JMB’s first violent act was reported to be the February 2003 bomb explosions in Dinajpur, which wounded three people. In August 2005, JMB claimed responsibility for detonating 459 synchronized bombs across Bangladesh. Bombs went off in 63 of Bangladesh’s 64 districts, mainly targeting government institutions and public areas, killing two people and injuring more than a dozen others. In leaflets left at the site of the explosions, JMB said: “We’re the soldiers of Allah. We’ve taken up arms for the implementation of Allah’s law.… It is time to implement Islamic law in Bangladesh. There is no future with man-made law.” The leaflets also warned the United States and Britain: “It is also to warn Bush and Blair to vacate Muslim countries, or to face Muslim upsurge.”
The JMB is responsible for Bangladesh’s first suicide bombing attack—the November 29, 2005, attack on two courthouses in Ghazipur and Chittagong that killed nine people—and for other suicide bombings since. It specifically targets lawyers and judges in its effort to undermine the non-Islamic judicial system currently in place.
The JMB is linked to the global jihad in several ways. It is a sister organization to Jama’atul Mujahideen groups in India and Pakistan. It reportedly procures arms and explosives from militant groups in Pakistan, Myanmar, Thailand, India, and China.
Furthermore, the JMB is said to receive funds from donors in Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Libya. The Kuwait-based Revival of Islamic Heritage Society, whose assets were blocked by the U.S. and the UN in 2002 for its links with Al-Qaida, has reportedly funded JMB and is suspected of funding the August 2005 bomb blasts. Others NGOs, including Doulatul Kuwait, UAE-based Al Fuzaira, Khairul Ansar Al Khairia, Bahrain-based Doulatul Bahrain, and the Saudi Arabia-based Al Haramain Islamic Institute have reportedly provided, over the years, a generous amount of funding to the organization.
JMB’s militant activities are also said to be supported by Pakistan’s intelligence agency, which also supports other global jihad-linked groups, particularly Pakistani terrorist groups operating in Kashmir.
The JMB is said to have links with Al-Qaida. Its leader, Rahman, is reported to have met Bin Ladin in Afghanistan. Rahman fought with the mujahideen in Afghanistan and reportedly told interrogators that he had received training in making bombs, handling explosives, and operating sophisticated firearms while there. In December 2005, Bangladeshi security forces arrested Chittagong leader of JMB, Aman Ullah, who told the media that JMB has close links with Al-Qaida.
In May 2006, a Bangladesh court sentenced to death JMB/JMJB leaders Abdur Rahman and Bangla Bhai, as well as three leading members of JMB’s decision-making council—Ataur Rahman Sunny, Abdul Awal, and Khaled Saifullah alias Amjad—and two other militants for the November 2005 killing of two judges. Arrested in December 2005, Ataur Rahman Sunny is the commander of JMB’s military wing, brother of the JMB leader, and the suspected mastermind of the August 2005 serial bombings.
      Harkat-ul-Jehadi-e-Islami Bangladesh/Movement of Islamic Holy War (HUJI-B)
Established in 1992 and dedicated to transforming Bangladesh into a Muslim theocracy, HUJI-B is part of the worldwide jihad movement. Led by Mufti Abdul Hannan, HUJI-B has open, unequivocal links with Osama bin Ladin. In 1998, HUJI-B joined Bin Ladin’s International Islamic Front for Jihad Against the Crusaders and the Jews, and Bin Ladin is said to have provided seed money for the establishment of HUJI-B.
Many HUJI-B members are veteran Afghan jihadis who studied in Pakistani madrassas and were trained by Pakistani intelligence. After the ascendancy of the Afghan mujahideen in 1992, HUJI-B leaders held a press conference in Dhaka in April 1992 announcing their plans for a similar jihad in Bangladesh. The group issued a slogan: “We will all become Taliban, and we will turn Bangladesh into Afghanistan.”
The group’s first major act of violence was the January 1999 attempted hacking death of Bangladesh’s leading poet, Shamsur Rahman, in January 1999. In July 2000, HUJI-B and Hannan allegedly tried to kill then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from the Awami League party and in November 2000, HUJI-B was accused of stabbing a senior Bangladeshi journalist for making a documentary on the plight of Hindus in Bangladesh. In October 2005, authorities arrested Mufti Hannan.
HUJI-B reportedly maintains links with terrorist groups outside Bangladesh, including Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET) in Pakistan, and the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) in India.
Britain banned HUJI-B as an international terrorist organization in October 2005. The U.S. State Department does not include HUJI-B on its list of designated foreign terrorist organizations, but it includes it on its supplementary list of “Other Groups of Concern.”
      Bangladesh and Counterterrorism
In response to pressure from the European Union, the government of Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia banned JMB and JMJB as proscribed terrorist organizations in February 2005. In October 2005, HUJI-B was banned as well. The bans came after years of persistent government denial of the presence of Islamic terrorist groups on Bangladeshi soil.
Following the August 2005 bomb blasts and the spate of suicide bombings that followed, the Bangladeshi government intensified its efforts to apprehend terrorists and bring them to justice. The March 2006 arrests and subsequent May 2006 convictions of the senior leaders and decision-makers of the JMB/JMJB are significant steps in Bangladeshi counterterrorism efforts.
The opposition Awami League, and other secular forces in Bangladesh, continue to criticize the government for not taking a strong stance against Islamic terror directed at AL and secular forces.
Washington continues to encourage the Bangladeshi government to take stronger measures against Islamic extremist terrorism. In recent months, it has worked with Dhaka on strengthening Bangladeshi anti-terrorism and anti-money-laundering legislation.
Major Terrorist Attacks in Bangladesh: 2005-06
January 27, 2005: A grenade attack in Hobijong killed Awami League member of Parliament and former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria.
August 17, 2005: JMB militants set off nearly 500 small bombs across Bangladesh that killed two people and injured 100 others.
October 3, 2005: Suspected JMB militants killed two people and wounded fifteen when they hurled five bombs at court buildings in three districts outside Dhaka.
November 14, 2005: A JMB/JMJB bomb attack on a minibus taking judges to work killed two judges.
November 29, 2005: JMB attacks on two Bangladeshi courthouses in Chittagong and Gazipur, killing nine people.
December 1, 2005: A suspected JMB suicide bomber killed one person and injured ten others in Gazipur.
December 8, 2005: In the central Bangladeshi town of Netrokona, a JMB suicide bomber killed eight people and wounded 50.

    • Mahmood
I wonder where has Jungle Ka daku aka identity crisis aka HM gone! In case you are the same, please stop it now, as you have spread enough awareness about Islam.
In case you are a genuine Muhammadan then this is for you (ONLY FOR MOMINS LIKE MAHMOOD AND NOT FOR GOOD MUSLIMS)-
[Note: I thought this Mahmood is someone wanting to create havoc here with a fake name but till now none of Muslim visitors has condemned his terrorist views and thus we are compelled to reply him in his very tone. Those who have problems with our replies should condemn Mahmood first as he started all this]
      1. The world knows who can do what. Eunuch was your prophet Muhammad who married 11/13 times but could not impregnate 10/12 of his 11/13 wives 🙁 This was the sexual power of Muhammad which used to be equal to 30 Muslim men 🙂 So if Muhammad was eunuch in spite of his 30 times power than an ordinary Muslim, you and your fellow Muslims are 30 times more eunuch than your beloved prophet (SAW).
      2. You know Agniveer and your new prophet Zakir Naik also knows them. That is why he and all his followers shit in their pants when they see Agniveer. Come to any IIT or IIM. You will know who is Agniveer 🙂
—————–You indian hindu beggars have your family to sell in market and we are there to buy————
      3. All those who gave their women to invaders are Muslims of today like in Afganistan, Pakistan and India. Women who were raped and forcefully converted to Islam gave birth to pigs like you and Aurangzeb. So Hindus of today are proud that they saved their women from the barbarians but Muslims of today feel proud that their mothers were raped 🙁 This is the fundamental difference b/w the brave Hindus and coward Muslims. Anyway the time is gone when our ancestors (in fact yours, ours were brave enough to slaughter the invader Arabs, Mughals etc) could be forcefully converted and their women (like your mothers and sisters were raped) be taken away. Now ask all 58 Jihadi countries (total population 1.5 billion) wage Jihad against India (80 crore Hindus). Ghazis among those will be sent to Jannat ul Firdaus to enjoy houris before time 🙂
Anything else you have to say?

    • @ Mahmood
I guess hindus have brains which these 2 other communities dont. Let the oil and dollar be over and you will see where you are. As always, brains prevail over everything else.

      • @MAHMOOD
i honestly dont care about somras, or wine in vedas or whatever. I am a boozard, (bevda; piyakkad) and I will in my drunken stupor pick up my machine gun and cull fanatics like you, befoer you convert whole hindustan to islam. Same like Indian army (drunk in islamic kashmir) does to kashmiri muslims. Or just ask the few unfortunate muslims who were on the wrong end of my wrath.
We hindus bravely fought back hence we kept our faith. YOu were the cowards, who couldnt fight back and converted.

    • We hindus have rice and spices and food to eat.
what do u have ? how long u can use the oil? why you muslism can not find the oil technologies? becuse musims are dependent. Brain less freak.

  11. my dear muslim brtrs, look at the thought process of this terrorist mahmood. He wants to make indian farmers poor, and then to muslims. He is afraid india wil become a vedic nation. If u believe in god, i promise u, HE wil make u pay for these words.Mr mahmood can u tell me ur address?

    you have no source
    of money.We have
    Oil and Christs have
    USD.You indian hindu
    beggars have your

    AAWW sweety,
oil of ur saudi brothers wil perish 1 day! poor mahmood forgot his 8th std lessons of plight of fossil fuels in next 100 years. baby, how long do u think US wil stand richest?
how wil u stop the intelligence of indians? India has the largest number of youth population and this moron is unaware of growth of india in several perks. culture of this glorious nation has produced the greatest minds, including the agnìveer who has scared u. may ishwar give u longevity to witness ur grandsons and granddaughters embracing vedic dharma. forget not that the country u hav just abused, is equivalent to ur mother, and she wil b the most prosperous nation, the time is not far.

  13. @Mahmood
    Dear Mahmood,
I would like to ask you if you are a true muslim please answer
Why do you have too much hate for agniveer? what find you wrong in agniveer? What harm agniveer had done for human being? What immoral act agniveer had supported ? What kind of superstitions agniveer advise the people to follow? Where agniveer insulted the woman or consider woman a low creature than man? Where you see cruelty in agniveer views?
There should be logic behind everything, where you find agniveer illogical?
If you want to spread something you should have logic to make agree people with you. There is reason behind everything from the creation to end of universe.

    • Truth seeker I reply to you now.
Why do you have too much hate for agniveer?
We do not have single point of hate agsint agniveer. We want truth we have given proof of Arya Samajis in my link and you can se Arya Samaji scholars sitting in the debate. These dos or cowrds are creating false propoganda ,they do not have single enuch to debate with us.Please watch all videos.
what find you wrong in agniveer?
False propoganda when himself he is not sure of what to do in life.
What harm agniveer had done for human being?
Guiding people in wrong direction is biggest harm.Check the video of Great Arya Samaji scholar and agniveer stand no where. He is not able to explain exact meaning of single vedic mantra till date and he is himself thrown out of Arya Samaj.
What immoral act agniveer had supported ?
      False information
What kind of superstitions agniveer advise the people to follow?
That is the problem he is making people ignorant
Where agniveer insulted the woman or consider woman a low creature than man? Where you see cruelty in agniveer views?
Biggest cruelt is propogating false wisdom
Please check all the videos and you will fall ashamed of Arya Samaj and its cholar.Danayan used o take Bhaang and same they all do.They are biggest importer of Bhaang

      • My dear,
You are torturing youself by heading yourself inside something without being asked and saying which is out of subject.
Anyways let me tell you if you don’t understand something because of your mental abilities, you can not tell this false propoganda.
if someone is spreading False information in society, go and talk to people face to face in society, using abusive words in comment is not the answer.
Bhaang is made of plants and can be used as medicine also if used proportionally and I believe meat and wine are dirtier objects than anything.

  14. Are all muslims like Mahmood? ……If that is the case then this religion is the greatest threat to peace today……?

  15. Yes all Muslims are like me except few of them who do not have wisdom of Quran.Specially Indina muslims.See one idiot says Saudi Oil will vanish in 100 Yrs and I am saying in next 15 -20 Yrs Hindoostan will be ISLAMIC nation so how does that oil matter.Pathetic no brains u people have Please come to calcutta and follow holy ISLAM

  17. Mahmood Bhai
Great, now lets see what agniveer has to say.
    Following will be his replies.
    * Harish Chandra not a vedic scholar. -:)
    * He is new kid on block . -:)
    * Not from Arya Samaj. -:)
    None of these.
Actually he will go back to Arya Samaj and close his website and hide under the saree of his wife. -:)
Ha Ha Ha Great work Mahmood Bhai we all are with you and all Indian Muslims are with you.Inshaallah we will do what is directed.
Sukhriya aur apko allah lambi amuar bakhse.

    • //Ha Ha Ha Great work Mahmood Bhai we all are with you and all Indian Muslims are with you.Inshaallah we will do what is directed.
Sukhriya aur apko allah lambi amuar bakhse.//
Thus Indian muslims are terrorists and jehadies.
      Mahmood says:
      March 30, 2011 at 7:02 PM
Sahmeless fellows you are using bad words well I am not going to use.Nellie massacre this is only one case but check 1000Yrs we have raped your women and daughters and sisters and culled your people and converted you .
Still you feel proud of your false identity.Follow ISLAM or persih you shameless fellows.
<<<<<<<<<<<YOU IDIOTS WILL GET MEDICINE. WAIT. NARENDRA MODI is coming to power on 2014

    • @ Aslam
The old days of Muslims killing hindus is gone bro…remember Godhra…..let that be a reminder. and when u say we will do as we are directed – thanks for admitting that u dont use ur brains. ur whole community is like that. listening to some mullah…

      • Yeah right. The old days are gone, we can hit back with a better kill ratio. I know that muslims, who consider themselves the breavest and hindus as cowards, are SHAKEN by the gujarat riots. Even not so much by mumbai riots in 1993.
Because it happened all over gujarat even in villages. ( unlike only one city – mumbai)
Secondly gujjus are the MILDEST of the hindus and mostly veggie. (atlest maharashtrians are fighters)
If this is replicated elsewhere, what will happen to us muslims?
let these idiots bark, I know for fact muslims are SCARED.

  18. Now everyone will run to agniveer, please save my pant, please save our underwear.
Agniveer now do reply as I know all others will just spread shit here.
Lets see what you have to say pon your great Arya Samaji Scholar.
Your silence will give the answer and I will leave this place by tomorrow as I am sure you cannot reply.
I end by debate here with prrof and a win as I have proved what kind of scholars you have officila scholars.
Do not give Mahendra pal debate as reply as we already know that and he is not a formal Arya Samaj scholar, moreover time given to Abdullah Tariq was wrong and it was well organized by your people.
The debate which I have put was formal one with proper wisdom of what to speak and defend.
Sameless creature I knwo you do not have balls to reply.
    Rest in Gutter

    • @Terrorist:
What are these videos for? The audio/video is crappy, it is impossible to make out what is being said , leave alone debated. Just posting some clips from a debate with amateurish audio/video is not going to get you anywhere. I cant understand why you are jumping up and down with joy?
As you upgrade your video-making skills here is some music to give you company.

      • @Rushmore:
Yes, you are right. The troll has also managed to get another bottom-feeder/sock puppet to support his posts here.
I am still looking for one Muslim who can make a debate interesting. Guess my wait will be eternal 😉

      • @ Kal Bhairav: Your wait will be eternal. These airheads do not realize that other than the fear factor of assured bloodbath, nothing keeps the flock together. There are many Muslims that believe in astrology in South India, while many do not enter temples they ask friends to do pujas in some famous temples on their behalf etc etc. These quasi Muslims will still offer namaz and talk big about Arabs but deep inside they are just scared of walking away from Islam.

    • @mahmood
Dear Friends thanks for your reply but I request please stick on basic topic do not miss the actual question what I ask you. You have given me link of Arya Samaj. I would like to inform I have nothing to do any sect it may be Arya Samaj, Hindu Samaj, or Muslim Samaj, Sikh Samaj. & I do not want to indulge such kind of things. I ask you again.
1 If agniveer oppose Idol worship why you oppose him. If agniveer oppose rituals like bowing head before Kaba what is the problem you have. I think you are also educated enough you should also support to agniveer. & agniveer also opposing puran etc. why you are not opposing Kuran rituals.
      2. If I marry with a girl age of my daughter. What you think about me. If I want to protect her I can brought up her like my other daughter. Do not need to marry with little child. & If I marry with the age of my mother what do you think about me. As Mohamad did.
      3. If agniveer oppose grave worship why you oppose him rather than you should have respect for his noble work because worship worthy only God even not include agent etc.
4.If agniveer publish article regarding woman in which he gave equal rights to man. What is problem. In which article he degraded the woman.
      5. If agniveer talk logically and protest against stupid miracles like Breaking moon, breaking sea etc. if you stick with these miracles how can we oppose Hindu also there book like Puran also full with miracle story like Elephant god, Monkey God. They also can say it is Leela (miracle) of God.
      6. If your father gives you nothing from his property on the contrary he gives a lot to your brother what you think about your father. He did injustice with you although you had no fault. Same example God make someone poor, weak, unhealthy, or handicapped from the birth & other Rich , healthy from the birth. Then I can say God did injustice with one although both were his sons. But it is not injustice according to Veda Rather it is fruits of his previous deed.
Please answer me logically on every point, dont give link & stick on basic topic. I want logical views from your side.

    • “SHAME LESS CREATURE I DONT KNOW HOW TO REPLY”
      DID WE INVITE YOU HERE?
IF YOU DONT KNOW, PLEASE DONT REPLY
UR ZAKIR PIG IS NOT READY TO DEBATE WITH US….
PLEASE ASK HIM TO DEBATE WITH US, AND THEN ACT SMART
      SO
      DONT SHOW OFF……….

    • We hindus have rice and spices and food to eat.
what do u have ? how long u can use the oil? why you muslism can not find the oil technologies? becuse musims are dependent. Brain less freak
      Mohammed,
As your phophet says in book 4 volume 1 phase234, camel urine is medicine, i think this medicne is working good for you. Only you drink or your entire family.
First prove mohammed is right? and quran is god word? .

  19. This write up is for god_unseen_unheard_how_to_get_vedas. My response, seen below, was getting lost due to a bunch of videos from somsone that has been rattled too much. But to those with an academic interest, this write up will show the intellectual level at which Vedas and Upanishads are.
@ god_unseen_unheard_how_to_get_vedas: If you look at Rishis in the smae light as messengers that were sent down to Planet Earth, you are not going too far with what the Vedic body of knowledge says about realizing the ONE immutable truth. Given you have brought in Schizophrenia, I am sure you are aware of the following levels of conciousness…
    1) The Sensoriphysical- reflecting the realm of matter, sensation and perception.
    2) Phantasmic-Emotional- the emotional-sexual level (seat of libido and instincts)
    3) Representational mind- level of concepts and symbols, fantasy, ego-centric thinking.
    4) Rule/role mind- thinking in terms of concrete things and events.
    5) Formal-reflexive mind- the level of reflective, abstract thinking and introspection.
    6) Vision-logic- the level of synthesis and integration.
    The higher levels are
    7) Psychic
8 ) Subtle (level of soul)
    9) Causal (level of spirit)
    10) Non-dual
Please look up for Ken Wilber on the above points based on Piaget’s Cognitive Development.
Now let us flip to the Upanishads. The Taittiriya Upanishad calls out five sheaths of existence/being-
    1) Anna-maya kosa (physical)
    2) Prana-maya kosa (vital),
    3) Mano-maya kosa (mental),
    4) Vijnana-maya kosa (intellectual)
    5) Ananda-maya kosa (bliss).
The last state of BLISS can be attained only when all dualities are lost and an elevated state of conciousness is attained by SACRIFICING the idea of SELF or I. This is what the vedas say. And we will see it below…
    Rig Veda – Book 1 – Verse 170 – Hymns CLXX (1 – 5)
In the Rig Veda there are 5 hymns constituting an important dialogue between Lord Indra and Sage Agastya that reflects the significance of traversing the evolutionary path of consciousness, that seems to serve as a crucial pre-requisite to understanding the true nature of the Supreme Absolute Reality (God).
The verses exemplify how sage Agastya, by the sheer force of his thoughts is breaking through the barriers of his mind, reaching the realm of God without first being developed as a fully functional being in all his levels of consciousness. The eagerness to experience God gets the better of sage Agastya and his senses and he refuses to progressively surrender to the stepping stone (which in this case refers to Lord Indra) in his quest for God. At this point, sage Agastya gets pushed back by Indra who does not allow him to proceed to the realm of God.
Indra says-that which is beyond time and space (God) cannot be known by that which is in time and space (Agastya and other mortals like us).
Indra goes on to explain that it is the progressive transcendence (of ego-consciousness) through divine activities that will take a mortal towards the immortal truth. Sage Agastya thenceforth realizes his folly, surrenders his will to Indra and goes on to execute his mandated activities through Indra.
    1. Indra: It is not now, nor is It tomorrow; who knoweth that which is Supreme and Wonderful? It has motion and action in the consciousness of another, but when It is approached by the thought, It vanishes.
    2. Agastya: Why dost thou seek to smite us, O Indra? The Maruts are thy brothers. By them accomplish perfection; slay us not in our struggle.
    3. Indra: Why, O my brother Agastya, art thou my friend, yet settest thy thought beyond me? For well do I know how to us thou willest not to give thy mind.
    4. Indra: Let them make ready the altar, let them set Agni in blaze in front. It is there, the awakening of the consciousness to Immortality. Let us two extend for thee thy effective sacrifice.
    5. Agastya: O Lord of substance over all substances of being, thou art the master in force! O Lord of Love over the powers of love, thou art the strongest to hold in status! Do thou, O lndra, agree with the Maruts, then enjoy the offerings in the ordered method of the Truth.
So, now do you understand the concept behind the Rishis sharing their experiences in the Vedas.

    • i just wanted to add my thought. i read through the previous hymn to look into what indra and maruths symbolises.
in the previous hymn, indra is lauded as the one who aids in the battle, from treacherous foes, however verse 8 clears what is the booty of the war-
Give to the Mānas, Indra with Maruts, gifts universal, gifts of cattle foremost.
Thou, God, art praised with Gods who must be lauded. May we find strengthening food in full abundance.
cattle/cows symbolises light/knowledge/enlightment.it represent the supreme knowledge of God and also the abode of God. thus Indra/Mithra is a representation of FORCE that extract the knowledge of the supreme.
now, that which acts as a barrier from knowing the supreme is the limitations of (1)our senses and (2) the uncontolablility of mind and the disturbaces that comes to the mind.these are the enemies that is represented in the previous hymn. maruts symbolises the force by which these “foes” are defeated(in other words, maruts represents the force by which the mind is freed from thoughts that disturbs it)and after that is done, indra reveals the knowledge of the one beyond.thus indra symbolises the revelation of knowledge from the abyss of our mind.
here,indra/marutha is a symbolysation of a force that sustains the mind from being disturbed and consequent revelation of the supreme knowledge of that which is beyond the senses.
here, i think One God is represented in three aspects-as marutha(the force that drives away thoughts that disturbs the mind and thus makes it stable like a wind ), and indra-the one that the “cows”-representation of spiritual knowledge/enlightment and finally, as the ultimate goal that is reached by the “cows”-enlightment and God consciousness. indra as the one that reveals knowledge is represented in many hymns.
the idea is more clearly explained in another hymn that i checked in atharvana veda.in a debate with a guy known as jazib bhat, i told that and now i reproduce it here:

      • atharva veda 6/77 describes this aspect of breaing the barriers of manas and reaching God consciousness.
i would urge yu to rread the whole hyman and correlate with other parts of vedic corpus.also look at the dangers u enter with literal inerpretation.
atharva veda 6/77 in its entirety is here:Firm stands the heaven, firm stands the earth, firm stands this
        universal world,
Firm stand the rooted mountains. I have put the horses in the
        stall.
2I call the Herdsman, him who knows the way to drive the
        cattle forth,
Who knows the way to drive them home, to drive them back
        and drive them in.
3O Jātavedas turn them back: a hundred homeward ways be
        thine!
Thou hast a thousand avenues: by these restore our kine to us.
first verse say “firm is earth/heavem/universe”,okay.but siddenly it says”horses are put to stall”.if it is to be take literally,y should the text put “firmimg earh and hevans” and “horses to stall” subsequently?no sane person would do that. this confusion can be removed only of you understand the significance of earth/heaven in this context.
in vedas, esp.purusha suktha, the whole universe is metaphored to a human body.syur veda says”just as is universe,so is the human body”. also, in aithreya upanshd, the whole universe is related to a human body n various cosmic deities are related to human body parts(like surya to eye, vayu to breath, chandra to mind, etc.)tus metaphorising human body as universe is very much there in vedic txt.
the next mention is of horse. horses represent senses. in katha upanishad, horses refer to senses and human body is likened to a chariot.this veil of symoblism links the “firming earth/heavens” to stalling “horses”;applying the symbolic meaning, the verse says by controlling thw senses(i.e.horses), the human body(represented by earth’heavens/universe) is thus fixed/firmed, i.e. controlled.
having done this, in verse 3, jathaveda is invioked. jathaveda is agni, fire.fagni, here refers to paramathma, the “agni” within…

      • contd…
jathaveda:i.e.to control the senses and thus the whole body.
after invoking jathaveda, the cows are retrived. cows, if you look into various hymns of rig veda refer to “light”,kowledge, or something that takes us higher planes of consciousness.
thus the meaning of the wholy hymn, when critically examining the verses and connecting them in a logicl sequence by unveiling the symbolisms, we come to a very spiritual insight: that to reach higher levels of spirituality(represented by the “cows”), one has to invoke paramathma(the light that destroys darkness of ignorance and takes us higher) and for that the first thing to do is to control one’s sense gratification(lust, gred et.) and thus control the whole body.(like starting from controlling the motion of your hand to slap someone wen getting angry, contrllg one’s tongue to utter bad word, even going to control one’s hunger and other bodily needs to some extend)by controlling the senses one can control the body and its activities.
that is the meaning of the whole hymn. for this, the reader shuld hav some prerequisit knowledge

    • @PM:
That is good. Hopefully, the practice of Yoga, Pranayama, Suryanamaskar, liberal OM chanting, etc. will make these Momins less and less so. They will be committing Shirk but thats ok. The Quran is wrong anyway.
This is just the beginning. Hopefully next, the faithful should make their textbooks more tolerant of us Kufrs. (Link1,Link2).

  20. @mahmood

  21. Hello Agniveer ji,
    Once Again a great Article.
However , I am preparing for UPSC-IAS , with History as one of the optional subjects.
Just Yesterday , I read about Vedas , and there it is mentioned explicitly in the books prescribed , that Soma Veda , contains information about alcohol & other related stuff.

    • Ashish,
The JNU-chaap Marxixt perverts haven’t stopped there. They even claim Aurangzeb and Akbar as “righteous” in NCERT books. And the worst part is they quote the same Ain-e-Akbari by Abul Fazl to quote Akbar as great. Such is their hypocracy !
BTW, I don’t blame them for that. Its because of people like us who have been lying dormant since ages.
This should increase your resolve to crack UPSC… be a part of that system and then change the system….
With proper vision we can truly achieve this mission.

  22. This Mahmood chappie, has a lot of fear in him at the truth our Agniveer is showing, and then we will show to thers further
Mahmood carry on , you cannot defeat the facts
SANATAN DHARMA TEACHES TO PRACTICE HUMANITY AND THATS A FACT!!

  23. A very good article…which shows some research and specially tries to bring focus more on the vedas rather than commentaries by famous people.
I believe one should gather the tools themselves to read and understand vedas. Although we do need to start somewhere and hindi or english translations are necessary for this. but in time one should learn sanskrit and read the original verses.
Also i would like to ask Agniveer to mention some accurate translations of the Vedas, Bhagvad Gita and Puranas, so that all readers can help themselves. this becomes very apparent from Ashish sachi’s comment about Soma veda’s contents. The half baked and victorian books are creating a great amount of confusion and hence some credible commentaries are required.
Also it is very sad to see an enlightening article turning into a slugfest between people from different religions.
I would request people not to respond to any abusive or defaming remarks. We dont have to prove anything to anyone instead we should try to establish our faith as strongly as possible. A firmly situated rock is not affected even by the strongest of waves.
Also I would like to mention that people who want an accurate, simple commentary of Bhagvad gita and Ramayana should watch Ramaand Sagar’s serials. Bhagvad gita is available on Youtube if you tyoe shri krishna gita part 4 and ramayana is available on various internet sites.
Thank you again for a great article.

  24. Dear Agniveer,
I am very new to this website and i am very interested in learning and knowing the facts about hinduism. Could u please tell me whether meat are allowed in Hinduism or only beef is not allowed?

  25. Hi all, I liked what I read! But I will need to say that Soma is something physical you drink and it is also spiritual. No matter what way you look at it whether literal or spiritual the same lessons can be absorbed and understood.
If any body wants to know more, go to this website and read this book and then tell me what you think? http://www.thebookofaquarius.com/
The book is free to download and distribute to everyone. The person who wrote it wants the whole of humanity to be free!!!!
It is very well written and is something that really excites me to my core of my being. Very simple process in making Soma, but it does take sometime as is noted in the book.
    Blessings, David

  26. Dear Agniveer,
You have read vedas and it shows. But let me share what i learnt something about Somras and Amrit . In 8 limbed yoga , the semen / virya is considered the nector of gods because it has the power of creation and manifestation . Shiv samhita also stands by preservation of semen to win over death or moksha . So as you lose semen , you lose life . Bhramcharya thus becomes one of the pre requisite of many yog panth . Desire for sex /lust takes your mind off supreme power . Control over this nector of Gods and doing yoga practice including exercises ,mantra, dhyaan etc , one pushes the power of mula dhar chakra upto sahasrar chakra ( moving of prana shakti upwards rather usual downward flow ) . As per science , upto pineal gland. With this supreme life energy coming to pineal gland and activating it ( also referred as third eye or door to super consciousness ) one find that union (yog) with almighty. To think of Somras as life force or semen is baffling for many but it is what scripture says. So people who dont follow yog actually use this life force to give new life but their own body decays. Yog still have moksha for grahasth even after he or she produced new life . So all the reference you gave for Somras are correct and it is life force in itself and we should respect its power and not waste it until its for great union.
Now because alcohol ,weed , other drugs like LSD which gives you temporary peace, numbness of mind and visions of cosmos some semi-enlightened termed it as somras .

  28. Only stupid people think soma was some alcohol kindaa thing. Soma was a a drink that had medical benefits, benefits were so good that today’s scientists or people will not believe it. It used to work on oxidation process in body and it was said that it not only increases the lifespan of the person but also the person will remain youthful throughout his life

  29. Dear Sanjeev,
I read through all the text of your article and I must say you have done a tremendous job. I mean I’m proud of being a part of sanatan dharma. Each and every explanation given by you were really easy to understand and were 100% valid. I hardly realized half an hour passed by while reading your excellent work. Kudos to you bro!
    Keep up the good work!

  30. here vedas say soma mean a drink to attain immorata life by drinking it makes the drinker(live long and and to remaing young forever and donot die) and there are so many sacrifice of antepole and slauthering of antepole. slauthering of horse to sacrifice and sacrifice of goat and eating and consuming it in the form of eternal god blessed food. and soma mean a type of addiction and in yajurveda and samaveda it is described as a juice produced from a plant but in the same yajur samaveda states it as addiction when it is consumed it is like alchol and soma is clearly refered as alchol but the soma is not like the alcohol like today we drink it doesnt make the drinker damage his organs in vedas and puranas it is stated soma is a alcohol which increases the strength vitality and brings immortality described as elixir .when soma is drinked it increases the intelligence and increase the subconsiousness to a greater level and in some puranas it is described as it is made from cannibis (called as ganja) shilajit (but still now properly shilajit is a plant or rock is and two types of bramhi one centella asiatica (ondele, saraswathi plant leaves ) and bramhi (nirbramhi) and blackpepper has been decribed in some puranas but the methods have been not described) and science say eating raw black pepper (only some 5to 10 ) daily is said to create happiness and joy hormone because of the element peperine and two other elements is said to be cause of it . and ondele is said as elixir of life in china and in some history it is benn mentioned to have increased lifespan but vedas say a plant named bramhi which has said to have been extinct and ayurveda says saraswathiplant and neerbramhi as a substitute to it . and cannibis (ganja is said to be good for some cancers and treating in some diseases ) [it cannot be known as elixir] at last some is a alcoholic drink and it is the increaser of lifespan, inteligence, and strenght
