It is possible that this post is based on the translations and commentaries of Islamic texts like Quran, Hadiths etc. as published by all major Islamic publishing sources. These are the publicly available translations that are used for promotion of Islam by prominent representatives.

We, however, believe that most of these texts have been wrongly translated, misinterpreted, misquoted or even have been tampered with and interpolated to suit the selfish designs of proponents of Islam after Muhammad. Thus, we believe that original Islam and original Quran of Muhammad are totally different from what have been propagated by his followers in name of Islam. There are few minority groups in Muslims whose scholars subscribe to our views and interpret/translate Islamic texts differently or even refuse to consider the available Quran and Hadiths as authentic. But these scholars themselves are considered Kafirs and are condemned by a dominant elite group of Islam. Thus, when we refer to Islam, we actually imply these dominant elites of Islam and not Muslims or all Islamic scholars in general.

Wherever we critically evaluate Muhammad, we imply the fictitious Muhammad propagated by these false texts or their wrong translations and not the original Muhammad. We have high regard for original Muhammad who stood for non-violence and tolerance. Similarly, when we analyze Islamic texts, we refer to these questionable translations/versions and NOT original texts.

Further, we have a sense of the highest level of brotherhood for Muslims in general. Wherever we use the word Muslim in a critical manner, it refers to false representatives of Islam and not Muslims in general. Readers are requested to keep this in mind to understand the correct perspective of such posts on this website.

Nowhere should they assume the words like Islam, Quran, Prophet etc. to be referring to original noble entities, unless it has been referred in a positive light. We restrict ourselves only to notions prevalent in minds of fanatics and those without reason.

The personality whom I will be scrutinizing today is a controversial Islamic missionary hailing from India. Dr Zakir Naik is the Founder and President of Islamic Research Foundation which is based in Mumbai, the economic capital of India. He also runs a non-profit television channel called Peace TV. Dr Naik functions as a televangelist and gives scores of lectures every year in different parts of the world regarding Islam. He considers removing all sorts of misconceptions surrounding Islam and Islamic societies as the objective of his work.

He has also authored some books and founded an International Islamic School in Mumbai. Dr Naik is popular among his followers primarily because of his vast knowledge of the Quran and other major world scriptures belonging to different religions. He has memorized various scriptures in several languages and quotes the exact chapter and verse number while delivering his talks. He believes that it is not the opinions of religious leaders which matter but what is mentioned in the divine scriptures.

I would like to mention when and where I came to know about Dr Zakir Naik first. My maternal grandfather is an intellectual par excellence and has a deep penchant for writing and reading. The first time I heard Dr Naik speak on television was at my grandpa’s place. This happened more than half a decade ago and I was too young to construe as to what was being said. Hardly had time elapsed that my grandfather became disillusioned with Dr Naik. Being a libertarian and to some extent a follower of values propagated by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan (who criticized polygamy and Hudood), my grandfather stopped listening to Dr Naik presumably because of his orthodox views.

I was reintroduced to Dr Naik by my younger cousin brother some days prior to I joined college. He had great fondness for Dr Naik’s knowledge and debating prowess. Initially, when I began to hear Dr Naik attentively, I was awestruck by his sharp memory and insightful knowledge of not only the scriptures of Islam but also of other faiths like Christianity and Hinduism. But as I began to evaluate Dr Naik thoroughly, I unveiled that aspect of his personality which caters to the fanatic fringe of Muslims.

The first objection which I would like to raise about Dr Naik is regarding his views on 9/11, Taliban and Osama Bin Laden. While delivering a lecture titled “Is terrorism a Muslim Monopoly”, Dr Naik alleged that 9/11 was an inside job and not the brainchild of Muslim miscreants. The evidence which he placed before the house was based on conspiracy theories mooted by documentaries on 9/11. He even suggested that the ones whom we see committing atrocities in the name of Taliban are actually not Talibanis because of the style of their turbans. Dr Naik echoed similar views during a famous episode of “We The People” on NDTV.

Through his lectures Dr Naik may condemn terrorism and extremism but to harbour and disseminate such views about 9/11 and Taliban is certainly not done. Dr Naik refused to acknowledge Osama Bin Laden as a terrorist. He believes that it is wrong to accuse him of terrorism based on the news reports of BBC. In one of his lectures when he was asked whether Osama Bin Laden is doing Jihad then he replied by stating, “If he is terrorizing the biggest terrorist ie America then I am for him.” It’s a matter of great regret that a person who was responsible for the murder of thousands of people including Muslims was lionized by Dr Naik. It’s totally dishonest on the part of Dr Naik to claim that 9/11 was an inside job based on conspiracy theories and turn a blind eye towards video tapes of Osama Bin Laden in which he has taken full responsibility for carrying out 9/11 and praised the inhumane terrorists who were a part of the plot. It’s far more dishonest to defend an organization like Taliban which is involved in bombing schools of innocent children. Unlike Dr Tahir Ul Qadri, who has issued a fatwa against “Suicide Bombing & Terrorism”, Dr Naik considers suicide bombing to be Islamically permissible as a last resort.

Defending terrorists like Osama Bin Laden isn’t the only controversial thing which Dr Naik has done. He has gone on to speak against rights of Non Muslims in Islamist countries. When a Sikh man asked him as to why were Non Muslims not allowed in Mecca and Medina whereas Non Sikhs were allowed to visit the Golden temple, Dr Naik replied by saying that maybe the Golden Temple was not as holy as Mecca and Medina. He further mentioned that Mecca and Medina were like cantonment areas with restricted entry. This kind of a defense of an exclusionary practice based on someone’s faith appears preposterous to me.

Dr Naik has also supported the illiberal laws of countries like Saudi Arabia where Non Muslims are not allowed to propagate their religion nor are they allowed to build their places of worship. Dr Naik reasons that no school would allow a teacher to say that 2+2=3. He says that since we Muslims are sure that Islam is the true religion as the Quran testifies, Non Muslims shouldn’t be allowed to propagate their religion in Islamist countries. This kind of reasoning sounds more unislamic than Islamic as Pagan Meccans prohibited Prophet Muhammad and the earliest Muslims from propagating Islam on account of the fact that their faith was correct and the Muslims were betraying their ancestors by practising a different faith.

Every person holds his faith to be true, therefore, it is extremely irresponsible to pass the kind of comments which Dr Naik has been passing since a long time. Going by that logic, people like Dr Zakir Naik shouldn’t be allowed to preach in Non-Muslim majority countries. Quiz Dr Naik about this and he says that where does the Bible or the Vedas say that Christianity or Hinduism is the true religion. To convince a fundamentalist like him regarding rights of all religious communities is to expect a tiger to start eating grass.

Dr Naik is far from being a reformer. In fact, his lectures strengthen orthodox dogmas and practices like that of polygamy. Dr Naik’s talks also reinforce the myth that women who dress up covering all their body parts don’t get raped. In his writings, Dr Naik has stated that if a lady is given a choice to choose between marrying a man who already has a wife or become public property then “all those who are modest will opt for the first.” His words are evident of deep misogyny and contempt towards females.

Suspicions can be raised even regarding Dr Naik’s penultimate ability of churning out verses from different scriptures. For instance, his contention that Rig Veda Book 1, Hymn 53, Verse 9 contains a prophecy regarding a battle fought by Prophet Muhammad is utterly false and based on gross distortions. A perusal of the hymn quoted by Dr Naik makes it clear that the hymn quoted is glorifying the bravery of the Vedic God Indra and not Prophet Muhammad. Religious leaders can play a very instrumental role in bringing warring communities together but people of the likes of Dr Zakir Naik are a bit difficult to understand. He may continue to bag peace awards and travel across the globe giving lectures to thousands of people but hypocrisy is a vice which easily gets exposed no matter how hard one tries to conceal it.

Dear sir as I read your blog I m surprised that u were forcing a man to believe in the act..which he had not seen by his own eyes…ye to her kisi na haq hai ke WO kis baat ka bharosa kare ..or jaisa aaj ke media or politics ka haal hai WO kisi se chupa nahi..to it is not right to blame someone on that…hope u will understand wat I m trying to cleRify..

  5. When people say that Quran was told to prophet Mohammad directly by Allah,then where was Allah or God for about at least 4 lac years during which the human kind existed as per recent research

        The Purusha sukta of the earliest Hindu text Rig Veda mentions purusha, the primeval cosmic being.[19] The Purusha is described as all that has ever existed and will ever exist.[20] Viraj, variously interpreted as the mundane egg[19] (see Hiranyagarbha) or the twofold male-female energy, was born from Purusha, and the Purusha was born again from Viraj. The gods then performed a sacrifice with the Purusha, leading to the creation of the other things in the manifested world from his various body parts and his mind. These things included the animals, the Vedas, the Varnas, the celestial bodies, the air, the sky, the heavens, the earth, the directions, and even Indra and Agni. Ymir of the Norse mythology).[1]

        Rigveda (10.121) also mentions the Hiranyagarbha (literally, golden embryo/womb/egg) that existed before the creation. This metaphor has been interpreted differently by the various later texts. The Samkhya texts state that Purusha and the Prakriti made the embryo, from which the world emerged. In another tradition, the creator god Brahma emerged from the egg and created the world, while in yet another tradition the Brahma himself is the Hiranyagarbha.[23] The nature of the Purusha, the creation of the gods and other details of the embryo creation myth have been described variously by the later Hindu texts.

    Dr. Ali Sina (www,faithfreedom.com) who is a rational thinker has asked Dr. Zakir Naik to debate with him many times. But coward Zakir Naik did not respond him because he knew that he would be failure . Dr. Sina speaks only truth. Millions are awakened and they praise Dr. Sina of his work of spreading the truth and combating the evil.

  7. A Genuine and much needed step has been taken by You brother. Actually I was also a great admirer of Dr. Naik Until I came to knw the Fact that he is an Extremist and sonetimes also disrespcts the non-muslim’s faiths by taking the help of Quran.
    I remember One of his Speech on Polygamy which he supported. When asked by a Hindu till what extent Polygamy is Right?
    He Simply Answered You Know how many wife did Lord Krishna own….. 16008!

    • Hey! Yes you are right that according to you Lord Krishna is your God but that does not necessarily means that he is GOD. He may be a messenger of God, who knows. Dr. Naik never criticizes any religion. He himself said that Quran says that many messengers have been sent on Earth (not mentioned by name) so we can assume that they (your gods) may be messengers of God.

  9. i am a 14 year old boy .. and some years ago I also was amazed by Mr. Zakir’s vast knowledge on various religions other than Islam. Islam also teaches to first research on something before believing. But doing wrong research and fabricating facts, and even presenting them to his audience is a sin, and doing this thinking they will follow him blindly was the biggest mistake Mr. Zakir made. During early years I never researched anything and thought he can’t be wrong. But that was MY biggest mistake.
    We should ourselves research in matters of our concern before blindly following someone else. And the way he spoke was that he knew he was lying but he would go on saying lies and lies, both scientific, historical et cetera

      I don’t think you have read the articles here. We are Vedic Dharam people and we do not worship idols here. So there are Vedic people that don’t worship idols. We actually think muslms are idol worshipers because they use rocks to bow down to. The true way to worship is not using a rock or bowing to rocks or have a specific direction, but meditating on God. That has been the one true way from the beginning of humanity to now. Even Native Americans talk about meditating the great spirit, God.

      We are also against he idea of prophets, son of god, godman, incarnations, and etc. All of them will prevent your consciousness from reaches the highest state, that is connecting to the One God with no form who is infinite and is everywhere.

      If someone says they received an angel their duty is to show everyone else how they did it so everyone can reproduce that same experience. That is what our path, Yoga teaches us. It is proof by showing and experiencing. If they claim they are the only person who can experience it, than they are liars and they are not leading you to God, but away from God.

      And God is open to all, and God’s full experience is open to all. So no one is gets the exclusive experience of God like a prophet, everyone has 100 percent equal access to that experience if that experience is real. That is why Yoga is the true way, it is open everyone.

      • Allah sent down Prophets for guiding humans and also teaching them abut Islam…. During the time of final prophet many were involved in wrong way of worshipping, he sent down prophets to all nations in the world and even we muslims do not know all the prophets.. but we know ew as mentioned in Quran…. the purpose of Allah sending down the prophet was to spread islam and giving message that Allah is the only god. And to worship him alone. because without guru a student cannot acquire proper knowledge. and without rophets even we muslims also would have done the same mistake what hinduism is doing today like idol worship.

        But muslims do worship idols. It is called Mecca. Not only do you bow down to that black rock there but you guys kiss aka make out with the stone there. The very fact that you use that object is idol worship. Yoga teaches us to remove all such worship. We just need ourself and God. The moment you use physical objects in some fancy ritual like you guys do, it is idol worship. That is why we expelled such nonsense.

      • we dont do idol worship and mecca is not a name of idol,worship or something, its a name of the city in arab.when u said muslim do idol worship and its called mecca,this shows that you have no knowledge about Islam.I have briefed about KAABA in my previous comment.we dont worship kaaba.its our holyplace to visit.we pray namaz there, in which we have a part when we bow if anythig is standing near when bowing does not mean we are worshippng that. unlike like idol worshippers who bow down to idol only, spin around idol in temple and they also keep idols at home to do puja and worship, they put kumkum in bricks, rocks, trees and worship that i hav seen it. But muslims do not do that sort of things.as you assumed that we bow to mecca let me tell u that we dont have kaaba built in our house or in mosque or in any other place to bow like hindu has idols every where,.we have paintings of kaaba but we dont bow to a picture. we love kaaba we touch it, kiss it it is also called as house of Allah. in general hindus spin in all the temples around idols. but muslim spins 7 times only in KAABA not in anyotr mosque and its not that we are spinning around rock and it is called tawaf. it is a procedure of Hajj.study the procedure if u want to understand in detail. but we dnt tat in any local mosque.

        Before kabba we bow down towards betul muqqaddas mosque its now in jerusilm (Israel/pelastine),after instruction given by ALLAH mohammad turn the face towards kabba,
        we get the direction for pray,we are not bowing in front of kabba.like in yoga if ur bowing infront of any statue for any asana it is not means ur praying that statue,ur busy in meditation ,like we get the direction & doing our namaz(meditation).
        In front of kabba there is one stone we call it hazre aswad wich is lift by mohammad ,ibrahim during construction.bcoz of only this reason its touched by mohammad & ibrahim we kiss it.not bowing infront of it.

        But in Raja Yoga, the first step, Yama itself is very difficult for the starters (See wikipedia link to know what is Yama). To be successful in this Yama stage one needs Bakthi and inspiration. Arcana (worshiping an image) is one of the nine forms of Bakthi as said in Shrimad Bhagavatham.

        So worshiping or being Bakthi to an image is a part of Bakthi Yoga and it helps you to pass the first stage of Raja Yoga easily. Further the Hindu sacred scriptures don’t command their followers but they always inform and recommend good and righteous. So there is no “Forbidding” in Hinduism. So If one can achieve Yama by showing Bakthi to a stone or a person or an animal, it is still valid. That’s why Hindus choose their loved Gods from millions of Gods, the one which is truly inspirational to them.

        first of all interpret the Vedas correctly. When Vedas say GOD doesn’t have an image, it is telling you that just like water doesnt have a shape but still it takes different shape of its container. similarly GOD’s takes the image of Murti when worshiped by its devotee which is very well explained in Bhagawat Gita. Vedas also say GOD is omnipresent means GOD is also in the Murti. So Murti worship is not forbidden in Vedas. Plz do not hesiatate to revert for further…

      But according to the true practice of Yoga Sara is an idol worshiper. Yes the very fact that you have to bow to a black stone is idol worship. According to us that leads you away from God. You also demonize idols when you through rocks at a pillar. We don’t believe in idol worship or idol demonization. Both practices lead you away from God.

      Also having a prophet is evil and leads you away from God. All are forms of attachment.

        Not sure what translation you are reading of the Srimad Bhagvad Gita, but there is no 1.7.36. There is chapter 17, but it only has up to 28 verses. I have a copy of the Srimad Bhagvad Gita translated by Ravi Prakash Arya and no were is there 1.7.36. We just have only one dot there is no subverses. Please get a copy by Ravi Prakash Arya. It is one of the best translations out there.

      • The thing you or Sara don’t get is that Islam is an idol worshipping religion. It just worships idols in a very very specific way. I know it isn’t the same way as other groups but Muslims have their own specific way of worshiping idols. For example the way the Christian worships an idol is very specific to Jesus as with Muslims it is specific to a black stone. The true path of Yoga actually asked humans not even to bow to rocks in while you pray. The very fact that you need that rock in your prayer is idol worship. That is why meditation is superior.

      • Actually muslims are moving away from Yoga. The very fact that you must bow to a black stone takes you away from God. The true practice of Yoga removes such objects from practice because it lowers your state of consciousness. Yoga wants us to get to higher states of consciousness.

        There is a very good story of RamaKrishna when he was studying Yoga (Most people don’t even know this story). He used to worship Kali and had trouble reaching the higher states of consciousness while worshiping Kali. And finally his Yoga teacher told him you can’t move forward mentally as long as you worship that idol. You must mentally break the idol so you can remove such practices and move forward. That is the same with muslims, you must break the blackstone and never use it again. That is the only way you can reach the highest state of consciousness. The black stone is your block from God.

        Also islam is a history centric religion. Yoga is against such practices. It is history centric because it believes in a prophet.

        Prophet = is someone who is put on earth during a specific time and period and what that prophet experiences cannot be reproduced. (totally against Yogic practice).

        Yoga/Rishi = A person who reached enlightenment through Yoga, and what they did can be reproduced. And they teach others how to do what they did, like using the tool of Yoga to reproduce that same experience.

        Yoga/Rishi is scientific, while prophethood is not. A true Yoga practitioner, if there was one there, would have asked mohammed show me how you received the angel so we can reproduce what you did. If mohammed couldn’t show his technique, he was a liar.

      I have a copy of the Srimand Bhagvad Gita translated by Ravi Prakash Arya and no where, I mean no where is there verse 1.7.36. Even it was a typo and say he accidentally put a dot between 1 and 7 there is no verse 36 in chapter 17 or in chapter 7. And in chapter 1 verse 36 does not say anything remote to what he quoted.     1. Islam is not a religion of the one true God.     28. Muslims move to Western countries but bring their country with them establishing “no-go-zones” for Westerners. One wonders why they left their “wonderful” country and why they just do not return to it. They cannot be assimilated because that means abandonment of Islam and death if they did.     Whatever Sam has said, it is based on the facts. His purpose is not to create drift but tell the truth. In which corner of the earth you are living that you are still in denial and want to ignore the true facts. If you could not find the answers of those claims, then you are deviating the topic. May be you are a muslim and covered yourself with hindu name or pseudo secular who always wants to pat islam no matter how brutal and violent that can be.

    Everyday, you hear the news that terrorists are blowing up, killing, destroying, beheading etc., worldwide on a daily basis. All of these terrorists strongly adhere to Islam and they are following whatever is written in their book – Quran. So it is proven fact throughout the world that Islam is a violent religion that glorifies death. History is the biggest proof of this.

    The biggest holocaust happened in India. Majority of Hindus are highly divided and coward by nature, they do not even talk about the atrocities done by muslims on their ancestors. Muslims killed over 600 million people in India. Muslim invaders appeared in India in the 8th century. Killing, raping, looting, kidnapping, etc were the common habits of Muslims although their rule. They devastated and brutalized India for 1200 long years. Assume they killed half a million people every year or 500,000 people a year. Then multiply that number by 1200. It becomes 600 millions. Muslims killing 500,000 people a year is quite a reasonable estimate [the real figure can be even higher].

  45. For example, Aurangzeb killed 5 million in 20 years. Bahmani Sultans had an agend to kill 100000 every year for 250 years only is South India. that itself makes 25 millions. And murdering civilians was going on throught the country simultaneously. Bahamni Sultans were only tip of the iceberg. Babur killed 1 million in 3 years. Even emperor Akbar killed 2 millions during initial decades of his rule, though he softened a bit later. Timur Lang [Tamerlane] killed 1 million in 1 month. Qasim killed 2 million people. Ghazni Mohammed and Gauri Mohammed together killed nearly 30 million during their added total of 30 invasions. Tipu Sultan in south killed 10 million. In Bengal Muslims killed nearly 30 millions. Regular incursions from the Arabs, Iranians, etc killed nearly 50 millions. Nadir Shah killed 100000 civilians in one day.
    The list is endless……….
    Muslim rascals kept on killing people. But people are very strongly bound to their original religion, so could not completely annihilate them. Muslim beasts started coming here nearly 1200 years back. Divide 600 millions by 1200 or 1/2 millions per year. That means Muslim killed 500,000 people per year. It is a reasonable estimate.
    If you want recent proof: In Bangladesh, Pakistan’s Muslim-soldiers killed 3 million Hindus in one year in 1971. The total Bangladesh population in 1971 was 60 millions [50 million Muslims and 10 million Hindus.] Out of 10 million Hindus, Muslims killed 3 million. This is done in the recent times in spite of so much of media exposure, international observation, and monitoring. Then you can easily understand how many millions of Hindus, Muslims would have killed between 800 and 1800 AD.
    In 1947, Muslims were 9% in India,
Hindus were 10% in Pakistan and 25% in Bangladesh.
But in 2008, Muslims are 18% in India,
Hindus are 1% in Pakistan and 10% in Bangladesh.
    I KNOW MUSLIMS WILL STILL SHAMELESSLY ARGUE THAT ISLAM IS A PEACEFUL RELIGION.
