Why did God create us?

This entry is part 9 of 14 in the series Self-Help

Even a cursory glance at the extraordinary orderliness that we see in the world around is sufficient to prove existence of an entity who is the great planner. This Entity operates so perfectly that scientists have been able to derive mathematical equations that quantify His unchangeable laws.

This Entity would move two unconnected particles even light years apart in such exact fashion that the mathematical formulation of universal law of gravitation is never violated. Scientists know that two distant particles come close to each other as per the equation of Gravitation, but fail to explain what makes the two particles talk to each other and conspire together to move closer in a planned manner. Similarly there are several other laws on which this universe operates – mathematical formulations of  few of them have been deciphered by modern scientists but many other remain to be explored in such details.

Now different people call this Entity differently. Scientists call it “Laws of Universe”, Muslims call it Allah, Christians call it God and Vedas – the oldest texts – call it by Om or Ishwar among many other names. A myopic cynic may term this entire world complete purposeless and emanating only out of a random chance of events. (Its a different matter that the very fact that he arrived at this conclusion proves that he is seeking order and purpose out of this randomness). We shall not dwell into the loopholes of such far-fetched statements in this article.

In this article, we shall explore the most fundamental question that arises naturally in most of the non-myopics (agnostics + theists) after seeing this mind-boggling world, its beauty and its ironies – Why did God/Ishwar/ Allah create us?

Most religions try to answer this basic question. And most people who quit one religion and join another are actually seeking answer to this question.

PREMISE 1: HE CREATED US SO THAT WE COULD WORSHIP HIM

Many religious scholars claim that God created us so that we could worship Him. If that be so,

a. God becomes nothing more than a praise-loving dictator suffering from superiority-complex.

b. It proves that God is inconsistent. He changes His habits. That is why since beginninglessness God was all alone, but then He suddenly thought of creating us.

Let us say, He decided to create us at point T1 in time. Now since time has no beginning and God was always present, hence time T1 or any other time T2, T3 etc are equidistant from origin of time which is infinity away. So if He can change his mood at time T1, there is no reason why He cannot change His mood at other time-points like T2, T3 etc. Also, there is no guarantee that He did not create and destroy us or other species at other times BEFORE time T1 of this creation.

Now all religions that claim that Allah created us so that we could worship Him also believe that Allah is perfect. Now if Allah is perfect, it means that at ALL points in time, He is equally perfect and operates as per the SAME laws. Perfection implies that there can be NO single-point inconsistency in God’ habits.

THUS, if God/Allah/Ishwar created us at time T1, He HAS to keep creating us at other time periods also IF He is perfect. Now He cannot create us twice! So if He creates us, He has to also destroy us so as to create us again.

Now if he continues to create and destroy us, how can He ensure that we worship Him when we have been destroyed. This means that either mood of God fluctuates with time, OR, He has NOT created us for worship.

CONFUSION: WHY HE MAKES US SUFFER WHEN HE HIMSELF CREATED US.

This is a most perplexing question that no religious cult can satisfactorily answer. This is the genesis of atheism. Muslims believe that God has a book “Lohe Mahfooz” under his throne, in which all the future acts of all the species has been written in complete detail. But this defies the concept of free-will. If what I do is already written a-priori, why punish me for being a Kafir? Even the punishment is written already in Lohe Mahfooz!

Clergies answer this paradox smartly. For example, the neo-Prophet Zakir answers in following lines:

“ In a class there are all kinds of students. Some are brilliant and come first. Others fail. Now a smart teacher can predict who will get what rank. This does not mean that the teacher is forcing the students to perform in a particular manner. This only means that teacher is intelligent enough to know who will do what. And since Allah is most-intelligent, He knows everything that will happen in future.”

A very reasonable sounding answer. But only that it has a major flaw. The teacher can predict the performance of his students only because he has assessed the past and present performance of the students. But in case of God, it is He Himself who decides which student would be born intelligent and who shall be dumb!

So while Mohandas Gandhi was born on 2nd October 1869, Allah had already decided millions of years before his birth that this boy would remain a Hindu, but appease Muslims, and yet be called a Kafir deserving Hell by devout Muslims like Muhammad Ali. So right from his birth, Gandhi had no choice but to simply follow what was already written millions of years ago.

The teacher-student logic would hold ONLY IF the prediction regarding performance of the soul is made only after the soul has been created and developed to be mature enough to decide his course of action. So a Lohe Mahfooz that exists even before creation of souls only proves that Allah/God is unjust. Please refer the articles on Helpless Destiny in Islam and God must be Crazy.

PREMISE 2: HE CREATED US TO TEST US

This concept has already been debunked in God must be Crazy through several examples. Further, if He is testing us, He cannot have a Lohe Mahfooz or, in other words, cannot predict our future. If He already knows the future, there is no use of testing. And if He is doing both, He is acting only as a moody dictator fond of enacting dramas.

SO WHY DID HE CREATE US??? ULTIMATE CONFUSION

We have eliminated all implausible explanations that can answer this perplexing question. If not for testing and not for worship, what else can be the reason for creating us? It cannot be for giving us happiness, because we find so many brutal things happening in world. People even commit suicide tired of pains in life.

Further, why did he create in first place, even if to give happiness or grief or take an exam? Could he not have simply enjoyed his solitude that he decided to first create us and then play games with us? In helplessness, one is left with no choice but to say, “Allah knows the best”, or “Khuda Jaane”, or “ God knows”, or even “Goli maar bheje me!”

Buddhism is practical and does not even touch this question. It says that before even thinking of answering such questions, raise the level of intellect through practice of mind and sense control. No doubt, a very practical suggestion for those entrenched in worldly glitters to be blinded to see and feel things beyond.

But despite all this, the question keeps burning somewhere deep in us – Why did He create Us? And nothing seems to make sense or look purposeful unless a satisfactory answer to this question is obtained.

It is true that Only God knows the Best. But Vedas – the first books of humankind – throw sufficient light on this perplexing question for us to take this quest further. And the answer provided by Vedas is clear and unambiguous:

GOD NEVER CREATED US.

And because God never created us, He also never destroys us. Creation and destruction of soul is NOT the scope of work of God.

Thus, just as God is beginningless and endless, so are we. We have existed along with God always and shall continue to do so.

Q: If God did not create us, what does He do?

A: God does what He is doing today. God is managing us.

Q: Then why He made this world and universe?

A: God did not create the root cause of the world and universe. The root cause – called Nature (Prakriti) – was always present and shall remain forever.

Q: This is confusing – God does not create world and He did not create us. Then what does he do?

A: As told earlier, he is managing us. To explain in detail, God brings the root cause of inanimate nature (Prakriti) and modifies it to make the universe/world in same manner as a potter uses water and clay to create pots. He then integrates this universe with souls.

Q: But why does He do all this?

A: He does all this because unless he does so, souls cannot perform actions so as to maximize their happiness. Thus He integrates souls with the universe in a manner that Law of Karma holds perfectly at all times. Now soul can, as per its deed, choose to increase of decrease its happiness.

Q: But why He needs to do all this drama to give us happiness? Can’t He give us directly?

A: God does not do anything which is not his property. For example, He will never kill Himself and create a new God. Now soul has certain properties: it is conscious, exists but devoid of happiness. It can do nothing on its own. It is like a microprocessor which can function only when hooked to a power source and motherboard. Thus God creates this computer system aka universe so that the microprocessor aka soul can function and exhibit its powers to achieve happiness.

Q: How does this Law of Karma work

A: Refer the FAQ on Theory of Karma. But basically, soul has following 6 properties: Desire, Repulsion, Efforts, Happiness, Sorrow and Knowledge. The source of all these is the core Will-power and the goal is to achieve ultimate bliss. Now as and when the soul exercises its will as per its natural properties, it is able to exhibit these properties even better and move closer to the goal. But if it acts unnatural, the properties diminish in expression and it would move away from the goal. Thus based on its deeds, soul achieves different states of its quality called Chitta.

Now what God does is that depending upon the quality of the soul, it provides it an environment which is most conducive for it to exercise its will and move towards its goal. Thus Bliss is a function of Actions which is a function of Thoughts which is a function of Knowledge which is a function of Will-Power. The reverse is also true meaning that if actions are bad, they lead to diminished knowledge and hence skewed will-power. And when one does extremely bad deeds, God puts those souls in non-human species where they can no more exercise their will-power significantly. This is done to clean up the soul of garbage in its Chitta.

This process goes uninterrupted by death. Death is merely a short stop in the journey where you get down the vehicle and replenish yourself with food and water to start afresh.

Q: This is too much to understand in one go. Can you summarize?

OK. Here is the summary:

a. God, Soul and Nature (Prakriti) are three eternal entities that always existed and will always exist. This is the actual concept of ‘Trinity’.

b. God never creates or destroys souls or nature. He only acts as a Super Manager who brings Soul and Nature together so that souls can put efforts as per Law of Karma to achieve ultimate bliss.

c. Whatever is happening with us in our life is as per our own efforts till last moment. And we can change the course of our destiny through present and future efforts.

d. Death is never a final stop. It is just a short break after which journey continues unhindered.

e. When we say that God is creator, we mean that he brings souls and nature together to give them this non-random well-planned shape. He then maintains the universe to help the souls. Finally He destroys the universe and then again starts the process of creation. All this – creation, maintenance and destruction – continues to happen just like night and day continue to follow each other. There was never a time when this process did not exist nor shall there be a time when this process will cease. That is why He is called Brahma (Creator), Vishnu (Maintainer) and Pralaykarta (Destructor).

f. No property of God changes ever. So whatever He does at ALL times is for benefit of souls.

g. Souls have free-will. But that is subject to their knowledge which depends on their deeds. This forms the basis of Theory of Karma.

h. Put simply, God is always with us and he is always helping us. We need to simply follow the core will and attempt to accept truth and reject falsehood every moment. This act of truth-seeking is the natural property of soul and purpose of this universe. When we do so, we rapidly progress towards ultimate bliss.

So God never created us from nothingness. He however developed such a marvelous world for us to help us. And we can help fulfill our destiny and purpose of this creation through truth-seeking. This is the core message of Vedas and sole essence of life.

Q: One final Question – How does one ascertain that this also is not yet another creative theory and not the truth? Why should we believe you?

A: Several reasons:

a. Whatever has been said is as per Vedas – the oldest and unchanged texts. Refer the text below and you shall find several references and details.

b. This theory is intuitive and as per common observations in life. It does not talk of a miracle that needs to be accepted blindly. Law of Karma is seen working everywhere. You need not go far to test it. Simply become positive and cheerful and enthusiastic for 30 days, refuse to be negative, refuse to indulge in wrong acts and note down how whatever happens in life or you feel. You would find your level of bliss to be way higher in this small experiment. This theory is at least more plausible than things like theory of evolution which no one ever witnessed, or stories of miracles which no one ever saw.

c. Vedas do not even put a restriction that you need to believe in it blindly. However the action points that derive from this theory are such that every sensible person would agree – that accept truth and reject false to best of intentions. And perform good acts as mentioned in Vedic religion in brief.

Remember that Vedas have a very organic intuitive approach. There is no compulsion in believing. What Vedas say instead is that as and when you continue accepting truth and rejecting false to best of your intentions, things will automatically start becoming clearer.  So call it whatever if you are not convinced. But you would have to agree that there is no other theory which is more logical, intuitive as well as motivating than the theory that –

“God has always been and shall always protect us and nurture us and give us opportunities and work only for our benefit all the while giving respect to our free-will without deviating even a bit!”

The global bestseller “The Secret” merely scratched the surface of this marvelous theory and changed lives of many. Imagine what would be the potential of the complete theory!

  1. Read “GARUDA PURANA” to know the punishments in HELL. It is a Hindu scripture only. And you guys reject? You are playing double game with people.

    • @Abdullah

thank you for for the sane argument that ANY BOOK that talks about hell is a COMIC BOOK.

as you know Agniveer’s position already you are free to discard both the comic books ..the quran and the garuda purana …congratulations for regaining your rationality 🙂

    • @Vajra –
So now you have come to “how” from “why”.
The “why” was/is for our existence. The “how” is for the cause that you answered that always existed. I still haven’t got the answer.
I really don’t believe in anything. And if I have to care if it is right or wrong, then I would be lying to myself. Moreover it implies that I’m scared of questioning because someone/something says that it is wrong and judges me for it.
When I ask myself I do not have an answer, I really DO NOT believe in anything. Not unless I find answers.
No, I am not in favor of existence. I am just not very much in favor of suicide.

  2. where did the eternal matter come from??
why there should be any eternal matter??
where did the iswar n souls came from?? who made them??
what is the source of energy for iswar??
    will he ever take rest??
wont he be bored with the same eternal job??

    • Namaste fuser
      1. Eternal matter must also be beginningless. So it has to be there always.
      2. There is no further cause to the ultimate cause.
      3. Beginningless entities dont need creators. Who creates energy?
      4. Energy or capacity of Eeshvar is His nature (Swabhaav) which is inbuilt in Him just like hotness in fire.
      5. No, rest is needed for the tired ones. Eeshvar does not get tired.
      6. Nobody gets bored with his own nature, like you dont get bored with your consciousness, do you?

      best regards

      • hey i hav read d article bt one
thng is striking hard my mynd
        hard…

        cant dis be so
        God = energy = matter(d
        smallest constituent of matter)
n Pakriti (NATURE) actly gav dat
        particle life(soul)……
        Dis sounds more scientific na….

n if God is energy = matter
        (smallest possible particle),
then it is obvious 1 single
        matter wont work……

        wot do u thnk?
r my ideas out of tract

      • nd if God = energy = matter

then there must be antimatter also???

then what wil be d conclusion??? EXPLOSION???

    • Lets give this a try

1 and 2) Energy and matter are inter-convertible,
we already know energy can neither be created nor destroyed
dont know the answer to number 3 , i guess will have to ask ishwar himself once in moksha 🙂
(its can be thought of like this, anything that is created has a life span and thus an end, so if ishwar was created he would also be bound by a limited life span, which would mean ishwar would die, which inturn would mean that he is not ishwar, which is absurd and hence he always existed.)
4)Ishwar is the energy himself and the its manifest as well
5)Rest is required by creation not the creator ( not to judge ishwar by constraints of Humans and other created beings)
6)Same as above for the last

  3. That is incorrect as laws of Karma does not apply to one who has moksha..Neither there is good or bad which such individuals are beyond, nor cycle of karma, so a state of perpetuity.

Now inherent in Pragati these souls have conscience, it is best shown through evolution as from biology we learn that from the first life for of bacteria, we evolve into higher forms of life, supported by Hindu Dharma. So it explains why we evolved to human form bacteria, because the nature to become more conscience of our selves and ultimate goal to evolve to the highest goal. These patterns show us that what is desirable moksha. Not that Hindu dharma says there is higher or lower life forms. But we can see a pattern of intelligence, knowledge, and other qualities that let us understand what is the highest goal is..

Evolution is nice that is show continuance change of life form showing again a pattern of progress in basics that seems to show people want to evolve to the next step that is moksha..

Considering this lord Vishnu has came in human form three times that is Purshuram, Lord Ram, Krishna, and that too in short period of time, what I saying and what more important dharma says that the ultimate goal is moksha.

  4. Love takes risks. Even if you’re going to date somebody and get married, you know there are going to be days where there will be conflict; but love takes risks. And God the Father – He does not only create the children and creatures that will obey Him – He doesn’t have robots – He makes all of His creatures with a free will. And that means He needs to take the risk that some will choose not to love Him and not to obey.

And one of the greatest evidences of God’s power of love and the freedom of will He gives us is that He did create creatures such as Lucifer and Adam and Eve and others that chose to rebel. He makes His creatures free and then He appeals to their love and their senses and reason; but He never forces. And God does not have a cookie cutter where He only makes robots that say, “I love you God, I love you God.” He wants us to choose to love Him.

Well all of His creatures have a great gift, and it’s called a free will. He does not force. That’s why He says, “Choose you this day who you will serve.” He appeals to us, and the devil pulls us one way and God pulls us the other, and we get to vote; and that’s a lot of love to give us that kind of freedom.

Sometimes you have to allow your children to learn through experience. God told Adam and Eve if you eat from this tree, you’ll be in paradise and everything will be fine; but don’t eat from that tree or you’ll die. And He wanted to find out would they listen to Him. God knew of course.

Now because Adam and Eve chose to listen to the devil who said, “eat it”, and God said, “don’t eat it”, the devil set up his headquarters here in this world; and the conflict between good and evil is being acted out on the stage of planet earth. Paul says our world is a theater to the universe.

So you know, it’s a big picture, but just trust that God is love and that He’s doing everything because He loves us.

The Cross is the best place to see Christ’s power of love and the devil’s love for power.

    • The christian god does not make robots, he makes sheep, he makes a son (christ) who will heard the sheep, he made a Wolf (devil) who will let the sheep astray, The christian god is a farmer, the sheep herder performs circumcision his sheep in the name of his father, then he punishes the bad sheep by cooking them in hell, or rewards the good sheep by giving them green pastures in heaven.

you quoted from the bible i assume when u said,
“Choose you this day who you will serve.”
Why does the christian god needs to know who i choose to serve, im not a slave i dont serve anyone.
christianity makes brainless sheep out of its followers, im not sheep, i can think on my own.
I do not believe in hell or heaven or adam or eve or the devil or the bible or in angels and demons. free will is when god does not expect anything from its creation, yet the christian god expects you to Love him!.

As for Love, i dont have to show love to god, as god is love itself, therefore the love of my culture, my family and my heritage my DHARM are for me the love of ISHVAR (OM, PARAMATMA)

If you want to see the worship of dead people, look apon the cross and u will see the LOVE of DEATH amongst these christians. and if you want to see the love of power of the devils look at the great christian countries, whom are built over the dead cultures and body’s of the natives of their native lands e.g: (Australia, USA, New Zealand ect..)

DONT PREACH christian “LOVE” to humans, leave it for the sheep

      OM TAT SAT

      • @Jason:

Well put! Christianity and Islam, to me, are just two sides of the same bigoted coin 🙁

Granted Jesus led somewhat a more exemplary life than Mohammed. But yet, I am hellbound if I dont exclusively believe in Jesus’ prophethood? Why do people fall for such crap?

      • @Satyagni/Other all scholar

Are we part of Ishwar because there is saying “Ishwar Ansh Jeev Avinashi.”? How can we logically prove we are not part of Ishwar and this is wrong saying Iswar Ansh Jeev Avinashi. Please explain it logically.

      • Namaste Truth Seeker

I will put it as per my understanding, my friends here may differ

If we believe ourselves to be the part of Eeshvar, we cant answer following questions

        1. When and how did we get dissociated from Eeshvar to come to Bandhan (birth and death cycle) and why? Who forced it to happen? God Himself or someone else?

        2. If we are part of Eeshvar, why dont we exhibit His properties like blissful, omnipresence, just, merciful, omniscient, unchanging, supporter of all, master of all, creator, supporter and destroyer of universe etc? Why do we commit sins, can Eeshvar or its part ever commit sins?

        3. How can you think of part/portion/pieces of Eeshvar who is indivisible so that no boundary can occur within Him? When Eeshvar is homogeneous (Ek-ras), why does not this world look so? Why everyone behaves differently?

        4. When Eeshvar Himself is in Bandhan (bondage of life-death cycle), who will help Him and His parts (us souls) to attain Moksha?

There are many more but please let me know if these suffice

        Thanks

      • @ Truthseeker: I have not come across the quote of yours before. But we are both part of Brahman and yet are distinctly seperate from Brahman. The abstract nature of the Jnana Khanda sections of the Vedas are explained in the Upanishads. To understand soul, nature and Brahman, please look up Isha Upanishad. To understand the way we are both part of and yet disticnt from Brahman, please look up Chandogya Upanishad. This is the Upanishad that explains the concept of Tat Tvam Asi (That art thou). You will realize that there is just ONE “I” which is Brahman. We are all only “Thou” from the standpoint of the ONE and ONLY “I” and Tat vam Asi explains and integrates us (the thous) with the Supreme “I.” Please read Chandogya Upanishad 6/ 8 -16.

      • Namaste Truth Seeker

I subscribe to the same school as Apolloreach. I think Traitvadis would not honor “ishvar ansh jeev avinashi”

Vishisht advaita honors your statement while Kevalaya Advaita does not.

the problem lies in two things
        1) how do you view saguna versus nirguna brahaman
        2) are attributes distinct from substance.

As Apolloreach bro suggested , chandogya or brihad aranyaka tackles this statement logically but differently

      • @Satyagni/Appoloreach/Indian Agnostic/Vajra/Other all scholar

Full quote is “Ishwar ansh jeev avinashi chetan amal sahaj sukh rashi” ( The Soul is Particle of the Divinity, immortal, conscious, untainted by maya (Ignorance) and blissful by nature).

  5. I mean…what a website and what a post. Absolutely incredible. Such clarity of these concepts in such a easy manner of explanation….A rarity…

I’ve heard many sermons of Vedic Sanyasees but this one is just superb. I just imagine if the world starts talking about such concepts, peace would certainly prevail….

  6. @Jacob
Brother there is no problem with cycle or moksha because its not at all easy to attain Moksha and need to serve god and have to meditate very hard and truthful . whenever a pair have sex then a new soul take birth from divine bramhan …

  7. Response to the article ” Reincarnation: Myth or Reality” in islamhinduism website.
    ———————————————
This is a poorly researched piece of work. I do not say this because I am a Hindu but because the author has not be able to integrate the multiplicity of the doctrinal views on rebirth and karma. More importantly, the author is unable to rise beyond his bias against Hinduism or against Christianity. A subject like this is an apt case to understand how academically motivated an author is but if beating Hinduism with the stick of karma and rebirth is all what the author wanted to achieve, he is late by almost 900 years,as, within the theology of Hinduism, tons have been written in support of and against the concept of rebirth and karma.

By the way, if the author wanted to understand a non-Hindu take on rebirth, he ought to have read Plato’s works. And if he wanted to know the beliefs of rebirth in Islam, I am sure Mushafiq knows what Alawis of Syria believe in and why Ismailis indulge in the ritual of chantas or the beliefs of Ghulat sub-sect in Islam.

Now to the meat of my response. The scriptures of Vedic dharma do not force feed the concept of rebirth or karma as a MANDATED one. If anything, these two concepts gained acceptability during the period of Vedanta.

The core of the concept of rebirth: The idea behind rebirth is not about accumalating some set of qualifications to break away from the cycle of births,as the author alludes, to but shedding away the wants and needs of an individual that have a physical / material angle. The true nature of SELF cannot be known unless ego conciousness is overcome. Possessing ego conciousness leads to attachments driven by desires that inturn lead an individual to assume proprietorship of things/persons that he/she comes across and this in turn leads to miseries. Only when an individual matures to the extent that he/she overcomes this trait can the birth cycle be broken. This is a key aspect of rebirth. The author has tried out many examples on metamorphosis to explain away rebirth in a faulty way.In order to achieve what’s stated above the individual has to execute his duties dispassionately by leavnig the fruit of results of his actions to the Almighty. The author has completely missed capturing the essence of the concept of rebirth in Hinduism.

The core of the concept of karma: Karma in English simply means action. The author here picks and chooses what he wants to present to the audience from what he claims to be Hindu theology. Had he really read the Hindu theological view of Karma, he
would have clearly stated, how Karma gets created and what are the divisions of Karma, as per Hindu theology.

Karma gets created by an individual by way of thoughts, deeds, words and interactions with other individuals. There is something called sanchita karma (the sum of past karmas),prarabdha karma( that karma that is the reason for the current birth from the sanchita karma) and kriya karma (the karma that creates currently). Karma is dependent on rebirth. If there is no rebirth there is no karma. And why does rebirth occur? As we saw above it is owing to an individual’s unwillingness to rise above the material / phycial joys of fruits of action. If today, I envy, say a Sachin Tendulkar, his skill and his money, I am sure to be born once more. Unless this trait is destroyed, the cycle of rebirths and hence karma will continue.

Again the authhor seems to have missed the plot from whatever he read about this in the Hindu theology, he claims he read. Within the Hindu theology, there are a set of scriptures that capture both the so called theistic and non-theistic views of both karma and rebirth. This post from the author is positive proof that this great masterpiece was never read by the author.

The theistic view puts a God as effecting karmic cycles (in Hindu theology) explains that God creates environments for a soul (and an appropriate body) to deal with the past karmas ( Sanchita Karma and Prarabda Karma) and gives chances to break the cycle of births to secure salvation. The quasi theistic view (within Hindu theology) puts God an a non-participating observer that lets the individuals figure it out as to how they can break the cycle of births.Apparently the author seems to have missed all this bigtime and posted wahetever he deem appropriate to trash Hinduism. But both the theistic and quait theistic views recommend reighteous dharmic practices in life to overcome karma and hence rebirth.

The author then waxes eloquence about sense of responsibility & about fatalism. The corner stone of Hindus theology, which the author seems to have missed clearly states that God does not distribute happiness or miseries to individulas but only the results of karma, for which, the individual is solely responsible. So what have got here? The author completely dropping the ball on the key take aways from what he claims to be Hindu theology, by choice or by design & then trying to make Islam look good. So in the Hindu theology, unlike what the author claims, the individual is responsible for the actions and reactions & it is not about fatalism.

Let us now contrast this with Islam, where, based on injunctions of that faith, if an individual has not been Isalmic enough or un-Islamic, he encounters the wrath of eternal hellfire, where, fresh sheaths of skin are given after the old one gets toasted, making even a repenting individual to escape. But hey, this guy on the toaster in hell, is already dead anyway. Why burn what is already burnt? Now which sounds logical? The eternal hellfire or the opportunities given to an individual soul to mature? And about fatalism, if anybody spends time with a Muslim,we can hear him repeatedly use the phrase “In sha Allah (if God wills).” I have heard this in professional discussions in Dubai & also in fast food restaurant counters in Dubai (why call Allah to get a filafel done in 10 minutes). I can quote even serious examples. King Fahd of KSA, July 1990. In response to the death of over 1400 pilgrims in Mecca (due to suffcation and trampling in the crowd)during the sacrifical feast.” This is God’s will. Had the victims not died in the tunnel they would have died elsewhere at the same predestined moment.” Many Muslims hold this view that it is Allah’s will alone that leads some toward the righteous path and others away from the righteous path. If so, why do those that were led astray by Allah himself get burnt in eternal hell fire?So again which is logical and who is fatalistic?

  8. hey i hav read d article bt one
thng is striking hard my mynd
    hard…
    cant dis be so
    God = energy = matter(d
    smallest constituent of matter)
n Pakriti (NATURE) actly gav dat
    particle life(soul)……
    Dis sounds more scientific na….
n if God is energy = matter
    (smallest possible particle),
then it is obvious 1 single
    matter wont work……
    wot do u thnk?
r my ideas out of tract

      • Namaste

        agar God = energy hain…
        to God = matter

        energy n matter are interconvertible…

bt there is a term called ‘Antimatter’ which is essential for an equilibrium state..newton’s law

so antimatter according to VEDA kya hain???

      • Namaste Himashree

God aur Energy/matter same nahi hain. God uses energy/matter to make the universe in which us souls can perform our Karma and try to achieve bliss by doing good deeds.

Anyway Newton’s laws do not talk of antimatter at all. Newtonian Mechanics only holds true for bulky bodies and not on particle level.

Please remember, antimatter is nothing but particle(s) having same mass with opposite charge. So I dont find any reason to relate it with God. What say?

      • @Vajra

then, can we say energy is property of God. Because if you say Energy & God different then God depend on energy to make the universe.

      • Namaste truth seeker

You can say that in vague terms. Main thing is that whether you call it His property or His tool, it remains UNDER HIS CONTROL. He is the owner of His property as well as whatever exists alongside Him. So lets call the matter/energy to be different from Him but under His control. What is the problem? Is it that God becomes dependent? No. Because then even if you call matter as His property, I can say that God is dependent on His property to make universe.

So using your tools and traits nicely for a purposeful creation should not be called as dependency but exhibition of your intelligence.

      • @ vajra

        God is the manager(understood)

        matter/energy is Pakriti(understood)

soul is desire, will (very impressive)

but what about Antimatter….i mean if matter exists, antimatter must also exist na for equilibrium state???

        So is God Antimatter??
If so then God helps Nature to remain in an equilibrium state n thus helps Nature in conspiring with Soul for creation….???

Or else Nature includes both matter and antimatter???

If so God is somthng very different ….
nd God doesnt need ne companion of His standard???

      • Himashree

You should include both matter and antimatter in Prakriti. Of course God is very different- He is conscious, wise, and blissful. God can only be One not many. So concept of any companion or enemy having same standard as God is not logical.

      • @ vajra

actly in reply to what are is Trinity?
        Agniveer repld

        God
        soul
        matter/energy duo

        so i asked…..

d uniqueness v observe in every scientific theory…
cant this be the property of Nature(matter)..
nd Good and Evil be the property of Soul…

n Antimatter jst help them in conspiring for creation by maintaining an equilibrium state…..???

nd there must be somethng stopping d collision between antimatter and matter……

So for creation,,, not 3 but 4 elements needed if Vedas and modern science matched…

      • Himashree

Matter and antimatter being physical entities should be covered under Prakriti and thus we require only three entities to explain everything.

        Eeshvar
        Souls
        Prakriti (matter and antimatter both)

  9. this clearly
depicts dat UR allah is concerned
    only about life on Earth….wot
    about Aliens???
nd wot is this good thing??? wot
    about d bad thngs??? SATAN…
ohk in dis creation of ALLAH (d
    perfect)……. where from SATAN
    came into human mynd ???
Dis means Humans hav a WILL
    POWER wich ALLAH cannot control
if so how can ALLAH be Perfect???

  10. bunch of punks attacking other faith look at your own faith and see how cow pissing your religion is. misguiding people to donate for stupid ignorant crap. even the most ignorant muslim will not belive crap your putting up. people like you read it and praise about all your silly nonsense articles.

    • @anwar:

If you can make substantive points against our arguments.

Islam, theologically AND practically is a religion of war. We are merely pointing this out. We have a moral obligation to expose hate-mongering ideologies that threaten humankind.

    • @anwar,
We saw that cow urine is useless and stopped using it. But you muslims are still hanging to the 7th century branch of killing an apostate, dividing humanity into believers and non believers, polygamy, peadophilia….last but not least you are still using camel cola and mullahs salaiva to cure diseases.

    • @anwar
we bunch of punks attack other YOUR faith not others faiths because your third class religion divides humanity into believers and infidels and encourages to fight and kill kaffirs, and you expect we kaffirs cannot fight back? Go take a hike.

  11. @ Vik / Kal Bhairav / HIndu Revolution: Thanks for the compliments. I did go through the threads that you folks ( KB and Vik) posted too. I learnt quite a bit from the posts of yours. Let us keep this momentum going. I am becoming increasingly sceptical though that some of these guys simply do not get it. Please read the latest responses to my posts on IH website, where, someone thinks that eternal hellfire is perfectly logical. And Vik, I do look forwards to your write up on kaba worship. KB, you are asking for the moon by waiting for some of them to respond based on emprical proofs. You seem to be overtly optimistic 🙂

And HR, thanks for having mirrored my comments on your site.

    • @Apolloreach

      Namaste Apolloreach,

I have always been reading your rebuttals on IH, and I must say they are outstanding, excellent job. Almost all the articles on that site are so childish and self refuting its sad that the authors on that site waste all their valuable efforts posting nonsense. But I thank you for giving them an authentic fitting reply each time.

      @Hindu Revolution and Kal Bhairav

good job guys, keep up the good work. We should all be thankful to Satyagni for inspiring us on a noble mission like this to defend Vedic Dharma.

I thank all of you guys for being part of this mission.

    • Namaste Everyone

yes, I will be free after June 15th (busy with assessments), and hence I will work on and post the article of Idol worship / kaaba.

After that, I also have some good ideas to write more articles like:

1)Dispelling the myth of Sati in Vedas – another reply to fanatic jihadis who want to defame Vedas.

2)Heaven Hell – reality or stupidity.

If any of you are already working on these concepts no problem, perhaps we can combine works soon. I might need help in terms of authentic verses since I am not well versed in Vedas, but I just wanted to show you what ideas I have in store.

Let me know what you think of these ideas.

      thanks/dhanyawad

      • Brother Vik

I think we should not spend our time on Sati which is neither supported by Hindus nor it is found in Vedas anywhere. But I would like to read your posts on Kaaba as well as heaven hell for sure.

      • @Vajra

        Namaste brother Vajra,

ok no prob, I was just thinking of giving a reply to many fanatics who bind the practice of sati along with hinduism or Vedas. But then I will proceed with the kaaba issue instead.

      • Brother Vik

Jihadis are habitual in providing solutions to even non existing problems 🙂 Now look today, none of the Hindus defend Sati practice and on contrary they all condemn it but Jihadis keep on wasting their energies in preparing rebuttals to it!

Thank God they stick to publishing rebuttals and dont go for slaying Kafirs as dictated in their religious cum war manual.

      • Namaste brother Vajra

true true….and when we debate them, then they counter argue with the most stupidest logic, infact they have no logic or common sense in their replies. You can see that very well in their articles!!

    • @AR/Vik:

It is frustrating that these guys insist that they are in sole possession of the truth and when asked to prove it cannot. This is a huge problem when this truth takes the form of Shariah wanting to impose itself as a sledgehammer on entire society. They also use this crap and get nice pieces of geography carved out for themselves. Just see the number of Islamic republics of this and that out there. Once they become Islamic, they immediately ban the propagation/existence of contrarian view points. 🙁

      • @KalBhairave

        Namaste brother KalBhairav,

I agree, only truth can be proven, and this is the proof that they are following falsehood, because they are unable to escape contradictions of Islam. The worst people were Deedat and Naik. These people roam around India and the world as if they own all these pieces of land, and they easily tell others that their religion is fake and mine is real. I am shocked how no one got up from the crowd and gave them a slap across their face, or maybe someone did, but they deleted the video of it. I remember there was one Maldivian person, who gave Zakir a beating of his life, but they do not have a full video of that incident. But these mullahs have strong networks, they even have hindus on their side to pose as fakes, this explains where they got the fake shankaracharya and arya samaj president. These mullahs can only rely on money and falsehood nothing else.

  12. I just skim and read through but there are several points of disagreements.

God has many properties, which are detailed in vedas. God does not manage which would be another word for dictator. Gods properties are better described in the Vedas. Nature’s properties change and those properties are given by god. The souls relation to nature that is also described. Basically there is creation, destruction , and that which neither these three forces exist in nature identify by the trinity of three gods. It also exist in mathematics and seen in the number system and mathematical expressions which model the real world and is why mathematics works..

Now the properties of soul never change, but the properties of nature is ever changing in the state of flux. It is said that some great souls have powers over nature for the reason for its properties for the reason of existence hence why time exist, and why does not universe collapse as nothing preventing from doing so. We talk of other forces the reason for existences so we say there is god who maintains this world. See the difference he is not managing the soul but maintaining the world, its properties, etc. in which the soul exist. Intertwine are the properties of nature good(satvik), bad(tamsic), and of passion. . . . . But there must be more reason for this, and question only grow, for why is a very big question?

The soul or conscience is that element that does not change and is constant, whereas nature constantly changes. This is basic to Hindu dharma.

  13. Dear All

Dont mind my words.. But I feel pity because what ever may be the post, we all rest at commenting against Islam and Christianity. Again I feel very bad when a Christian and Islam supporter comes and comments on these posts with out even knowing about the Vedas or koran or Bible.

If some day a list will be made of the persons who were the satans on the earth, 1st will be Mohammed 2nd to some millions will be the muslims who killed the innocent people, looted their properties, raped the girls and women,

then there will be the catholics for another millions who did the same. They kept on war against non believers for more than 300 years, killed the innocent even the women, although many claim they did not rape them, thats why they are not worse than the Muslims.

Then we will find some modern stuffs like Hitler, Laden, Saddam etc. After millions of such, one will reach the Asurs, Rakhsas as said in Hindu Purans, they used to disturb the people in doing religious, but they were not mass killers or they did not rape others. Even ravan did not rape Sita, he kept her as her prisoner.

This only differentiates Hindus and other religions. So why at all a discussion on this stupid things ??

  14. On March 5, 1772, a French expedition led by Nicholas Marion du Fresne landed on the island,Tasmania. Within a few hours his sailors had shot several Aborigines. On January 28, 1777, the British landed on the island. Following coastal New South Wales in Australia, Tasmania was established as a British convict settlement in 1803. These convicts had been harshly traumatized and were exceptionally brutal. In addition to soldiers, administrators, and missionaries, eventually more than 65,000 men and women convicts were settled in Tasmania. A glaringly inefficient penal system allowed such convicts to escape into the Tasmanian hinterland where they exercised the full measure of their blood-lust and brutality upon the island’s Black occupants. According to social historian Clive Turnbull, the activities of these criminals would soon include the “shooting, bashing out brains, burning alive, and slaughter of Aborigines for dogs’ meat.”As early as 1804 the British began to slaughter, kidnap and enslave the Black people of Tasmania. The colonial government itself was not even inclined to consider the aboriginal Tasmanians as full human beings, and scholars began to discuss civilization as a unilinear process with White people at the top and Black people at the bottom. To the Europeans of Tasmania the Blacks were an entity fit only to be exploited in the most sadistic of manners–a sadism that staggers the imagination and violates all human morality. As UCLA professor, Jared Diamond, recorded:

“Tactics for hunting down Tasmanians included riding out on horseback to shoot them, setting out steel traps to catch them, and putting out poison flour where they might find and eat it. Sheperds cut off the penis and testicles of aboriginal men, to watch the men run a few yards before dying. At a hill christened Mount Victory, settlers slaughtered 30 Tasmanians and threw their bodies over a cliff. One party of police killed 70 Tasmanians and dashed out the children’s brains.”

Such vile and animalistic behavior on the part of the White settlers of Tasmania was the rule rather than the exception. In spite of their wanton cruelty, however, punishment in Tasmania was exceedingly rare for the Whites, although occasionally Whites were sentenced for crimes against Blacks. For example, there is an account of a man who was flogged for exhibiting the ears and other body parts of a Black boy that he had mutilated alive. We hear of another European punished for cutting off the little finger of an Aborigine and using it as a tobacco stopper. Twenty-five lashes were stipulated for Europeans convicted of tying aboriginal “Tasmanian women to logs and burning them with firebrands, or forcing a woman to wear the head of her freshly murdered husband on a string around her neck.”

Not a single European, however, was ever punished for the murder of Tasmanian Aborigines. Europeans thought nothing of tying Black men to trees and using them for target practice. Black women were kidnapped, chained and exploited as sexual slaves. White convicts regularly hunted Black people for sport, casually shooting, spearing or clubbing the men to death, torturing and raping the women, and roasting Black infants alive. As historian, James Morris, graphically noted:

“We hear of children kidnapped as pets or servants, of a woman chained up like an animal in a sheperd’s hut, of men castrated to keep them off their own women. In one foray seventy aborigines were killed, the men shot, the women and children dragged from crevices in the rocks to have their brains dashed out. A man called Carrotts, desiring a native woman, decapitated her husband, hung his head around her neck and drove her home to his shack.”

    • pathetic 🙁

but they can’t escape from the law of nature. they have to pay for their bad karma they have done. and i am sure they are paying it by some or in the other form.

  15. According to Mother Teresa’s bizarre philosophy, it is “the most beautiful gift for a person that he can participate in the sufferings of Christ”. Once she tried to comfort a screaming sufferer: “You are suffering, that means Jesus is kissing you!” The man got furious and screamed back: “Then tell your Jesus to stop kissing.”

    very merciful jesus, indeed.

  16. Spiritually, the temples are like launching pads where one performs those activities that assist in reaching higher dimensions. They are the doorways to more advanced realms and where pilgrims and devotees go to make an outward display of their devotion to their Deities. Though God is within us all, and religion or yoga is very often an inward process, God can manifest externally as the Deity, the arca-vigraha incarnation, through which He accepts the devotee’s service while he or she is in the material realm. These devotional activities, such as simple darshan (seeing the Deity and being seen by the Deity), are considered purifying for one’s life and consciousness. The goal is to continue on this path until one’s thoughts are purified to the point where one sheds his or her materialistic consciousness and can enter the spiritual realm, at least by the time of death if not before. Thus, everyone tries to visit the nearest temple a few times a day, or tries to make pilgrimages to the famous holy places. The temples usually have a main shrine with smaller temples or shrines surrounding it. These shrines may have murtis or carved images of important spiritual masters, or deities of various demigods, such as Parvati (Lord Shiva’s wife), Durga (the warrior aspect of Parvati, sometimes called Kali, Tara, etc.), Sarasvati (goddess of knowledge and intelligence), Lakshmi (goddess of fortune, Lord Vishnu’s wife), Ganesh (a son of Shiva, said to destroy obstacles and offer good luck), Murugan (meaning divine child, the Tamil name for Subramaniya, another son of Shiva, especially worshiped in the South), Brahma (born from Lord Vishnu and who engineered the creation of the living beings within the universe), and Shiva (the benevolent one, part of the triad of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva who continually create, maintain, and destroy the universe), and Deities of the Supreme, such as Vishnu (incarnation of the Supreme appearing as the All-pervading One, the preserver or maintainer of the universe), or Krishna (the Supreme Being, source of all other incarnations, such as Rama, Vishnu, Narasimha, etc.). The temple is usually dedicated to a particular form of God or demigod which you will find on the main altar. It is explained that the Deity is not a product of someone’s imagination, but is made in accordance with the ancient Vedic texts, called the Shilpasutras, which deal with the science of iconography. Everything about the Deity, such as its proportions, the postures, hand gestures, weapons (if any), the emblems, etc., all mean something. Therefore, it is very important that every part of the Deity is formed properly. The Deity may also have different features which represent different aspects, abilities, powers, or pastimes. After the Deity is formed, there is the elaborate installation ceremony during which the Deity is installed in the temple. At this time the devotees and priests petition the personality of the demigod or Supreme Being to take up residence in the form of the Deity. Only then does the Deity become the arca-vigraha, or worshipable incarnation of the Supreme Being or particular demigod. It is considered that since God is the controller of both material and spiritual energies, He can turn something material into spiritual energy or vice versa. Thus, the Deity, which may appear to be made of common material elements, becomes spiritual and allows us to see spiritual form with our material senses. Out of the causeless mercy of the Supreme, He agrees to reside within the form of the Deity to accept the worship of His devotees. Of course, we should not think He is forced to remain there. If He is neglected or if harm is allowed to come to the Deity, He may leave the form of the Deity at any time. There are many stories in both traditional Vedic writings and local legends that relate how various Deities have reciprocated with devotees. Such relations have taken place in dreams as well as in the awakened state in which the Deity has come to life to show Himself as He is or partake in pastimes with His devotees. There are also some instances when Krishna or Shiva spontaneously manifested themselves as stone Deities. Such Deities are called self-manifested because they were not formed by any artist or priest. Lord Venkateshvara at Tirupati, Vishvanatha Shiva at Varanasi, and several Krishna Deities at Vrindavan are a few examples of this. Of course, most Westerners of little faith cannot explain such occurrences, and can hardly accept that the Supreme would exhibit Himself in this way. They would rather look for some “logical” or non-mystical explanation for such things. But for the devoted and the sages who have glimpsed and understand the spiritual dimensions of existence, the Deities are a reality. Even if one cannot accept the concept of Deities, then even in the most abstract sense the images, such as in Buddhism, represent cosmic principles which affect us all. Therefore, they remain a part of the reality we experience at every moment. In this way, the temples are the places where one can see and even experience the Divine. Furthermore, many of the temples are built at locations where ancient historical or holy events involving the incarnations of God or the demigods have occurred. Such temples give evidence for the legends that are described in the Puranas which explain how the Supreme Being appeared there. Therefore, these sites become very sacred, even spiritualized for having been the site of the pastimes of the Supreme. It is for this reason that people can acquire great spiritual merit by visiting these places. Thus, these sites become important centers on the pilgrimage routes for many of the devout. In this way, the temples are the most significant of the surviving monuments where religious, social, cultural, and, in many cases, political aspects of history have been preserved. Historically, the temples were also major centers for education. The larger ones would maintain priests and students for the recitation of the Puranic texts to the people at large. Thus, both literate or illiterate people could be provided with a cultural education. The villages, however, had schools for basic study and learning, but beyond that the temples often had libraries full of books from all branches of learning and teachers who taught all these subjects. The temples also served as centers for the arts since they would employ many artists to paint scenes from the Puranic legends or carve beautiful sculptures. There were also jewelers and goldsmiths who would make articles for the Deities. Musicians and singers were also employed, and dancing girls would perform exotic dances in times of worship, especially during festivals. The larger temples had hospitals and doctors and areas for feeding and caring for the poor and destitute. In order to do all this, the temples consumed large amounts of fruits and grains. Thus, the temples were given plots of land that were used mostly by the farmers for growing food for the offerings in the temples. These offerings, however, would then be redistributed amongst the temple employees and the poor. The temples also had systems of banking. Thus, with such a variety of activity centered around them, the temples played a very important part in Indian culture. After we have traveled through India, and if we have been able to connect with the spiritual side of it, the experience will certainly influence us in a special way. In fact, on some level we will never be the same. If we have traveled with a seeker’s humility and a quest for higher experiences, then some of us who have gone on this journey will have attained glimpses into the visions of the sages and viewed similar levels of higher reality. The effects and memories of such encounters will stay with us forever and, thus, change our lives. This is priceless experience.[Stephen Knapp]

    • Temples (where idols of so-called deities are erected and worshiped) are not mentioned in Vedas, Upanishads, Darshan-Shastras, Manusmriri etc.; not even in Gita. Ancient Vedic dharma doesn’t sanction idol-worship.

Idols made of stones or metals are basically inert or insentient objects. They can’t and don’t see or acknowledge any thing desplayed to them by the devotees. So such exercise has no meaning.

If a devotee really understands that God is within us all (means formless) or present everywhere, then he would not like to worship the outer idols. How can he believe that the idol of the temple is the same God dwelling within all creatures or Who is Omnipresent? To worship idol means to deny Omnipresence of God.

God in unchangeable and so He never manifests. Only the material cause of the universe (‘Mool Prakriti’) gets transformed or manifested. God is as He has been for ever; never undergo any change whatsoever.

In temples one sees the idols with the eyes and that “darshan” is nothing but seeing the idols. It has nothing to do with the practice of yoga for God-realization.

Thoughts are purified when a devotee understands the fundamental differences between the idol and Almighty God.

Most of the idols are of historical (dead – mortal) persons, and a mind purified by true knowledge will soon grasp the difference between Almighty God and great persons of history.

One has to also understand that the “art of making idols” (or science of iconography) is a one thing and the “worship of idol” is a different thing. Both are not identical.

“Praan-Pratishthaa” (installation ceremony) of the idols is a great superstition. It can’t and doesn’t change any attributes of the idol. Idols remains idols – even after this so-called ceremony.

God exists and so does an idol too exist. Both do possess the quality of existence. This is the only common quality between Almighty God and idol. All other qualities or attributes of Almighty God cannot be thought of in any idol. Therefore, an idol should be taken as idol and God should be taken as God. Both should not be considered identical.

However, if the existing temples are used really as “launching pads where one performs those activities that assist in reaching higher dimensions” it is highly desirable.

  17. @Cantakeitnemore:

As regards creation, here are my thoughts on it.

(a)The WHY of creation is unanswerable by science. Religion engages in speculation, imo.
(b)The question therefore is which amongst the competing speculations is logically/philosophically sound.
(c)If ontological entities (Brahman, Atman, Prakriti) came into existence at a particular point in time, it raises questions as to why it didnt happen before. In physics there is a concept used to verify the universality of laws called the concept of mediocrity which asserts that no point in time or no position in space is priviledged over another. So, a universal law should not take recourse to specifics. So, if these entities arose ex-nihilo at a particular point in time, it raises more unanswerable questions.
(d)The only alternative is to posit their eternal existence as Hinduism does.
(e)That there indeed was a beginning to our current life on earth 13 Billion years ago is confirmed by science and called the Big Bang.
(f)If you have a Big Bang AND you have an eternal sequence, the only logical conclusion is to believe in a creation, preservation and an “uncreation”. This is what Hinduism believes.

    • @Kalbhairav- Another question is, WHAT happened BEFORE that? I see what Hinduism believes but it still does not answer the question, what is the purpose of my existence ? What is the purpose of anybody’s existence ? How is my existence any different from your’s? Why do we live the way we do ? And then, why do we die ? And why don’t we remember anything before we were created ?

@Vajra -If we never existed, we would have never discussed. What difference would it have made to anything or anyone ? We just wouldn’t exist.
Have you ever passed out/fainted ? That time, you don’t remember a thing from that time, its totally different from sleeping. So it would be just like that, simply not being. I hope you get my point ?

      • @Cantakeitnemore:

what is the purpose of my existence ?…

Here I have to throw up my hands because Hindus take Vedas as axiomatic. Any further question is futile. One can only rationalize what the Hindu scriptures say. Beyond this, one can only self-experience the truths. As the Ashtavakra Gita says in its conclusion – “No more can be said”.

So, the Hindu answer is, the purpose of life is to obtain Moksha from the cycles of birth and death. Also, Hinduism says that “you” (your self) doesnt die. It is because of its false association with its finite bodily experiences that it feels afraid of death. Some people DO remember their earlier lives. Some people are young prodigies who can point out to places on the maps, recite the Gita, correctly tell the days of a date decades ago, etc. and the only way that I think this can happen is if there is some spillover vestigial knowledge from an earlier life. This knowledge dissipates as one grows and begins to associate their “I” ness with their bodily senses and immediate cultural surroundings.

      • So I guess it leaves us alone to keep wondering then ?
From what I gather, Vedas are look like a set of observations made over a long period of time by the then scientists and spiritualists who were looking for answers, just like we(including the quantum physicists) do now. But they never found one. And now we are doing the same thing all over again, but to no avail, yet ?

      • @cantakeitmore

———-And why don’t we remember anything before we were created ?————

We were never created, it is told so many times. So there is nothing like “before” creation. Please read our previous responses.

———-If we never existed, we would have never discussed. What difference would it have made to anything or anyone ?———

Nothing because neither “anything” nor “anyone” would exist then! But your question is irrelevant because WE DO EXIST. To whom you are asking all this? Who is responsible for your (soul’s) existence? It is none, thus this is a useless exercise to consider/discuss this imaginary case of non existence again and again.

———-Have you ever passed out/fainted ? That time, you don’t remember a thing from that time, its totally different from sleeping. So it would be just like that, simply not being. I hope you get my point ?———-

Its not wise to correlate memory with existence. Because you surely dont remember what happened to you when you were 3 years 4 months 6 days 5 hours 56 minutes and 31second, what were you doing at that time etc. But that certainly is not at all the proof of your non existence at that time. And your analogy goes against what you want to establish. Someone has to EXIST before he passed out and it is purely an ABNORMAL state when one cant remember anything. So your example only suggests that the feeling of non existence is ABNORMAL/UNNATURAL state.

And you did not respond to my previous question-

Why you think existence is pointless? Is it really you believe?

      • —-We were never created, it is told so many times. So there is nothing like “before” creation. Please read our previous responses.—
How can something always exist ?
—Why you think existence is pointless? Is it really you believe?—
I don’t believe anything. I am trying to find out. I think it is pointless because I don’t see any reason/logic to it. There is no aim to our lives. What is the purpose of all the things we experience, suffer, enjoy ? Why are our lives full of complex emotions, troubles and everything that is? When I think about the answer, it comes out as nothing. I usually don’t ask people around me because they start thinking that I’m suicidal but that’s really not the case.
Given a choice, I’ll choose not to exist. You’ll probably say it is a fallacy because to make a choice I’ll have to exist in the first place. But that’s not what I’m saying. I don’t know how to explain.

      • @Cantakeitnemore

———How can something always exist ?———

So now you have come to “how” from “why”. But anyway as KalBhairav stated earlier, belief in eternal existence is more logical than that of coming into being from nothing at some point in time. Please refer to his post.

        ———–I don’t believe anything.———-

That is the problem 🙁 But thats not the true case! When you question something, you have to have a stand based on which you ask/demand/analyze the answer. Saying that you dont believe anything is WRONG. Its just that you need to think calmly what do you actually think. When you question existence, do you question non existence as well? No. you dont, it means you favor non existence in discussions (will talk about your actions later!).

———– I think it is pointless because I don’t see any reason/logic to it.————

Do you know that even logic are relative? No logic of humans is absolute. So you need to COMPARE the two cases and choose more logical one. So question “non existence” the same way as you do to “existence” and then compare both cases and decide which is MORE logical.

———– There is no aim to our lives. ———-

Eternity does not make one aimless. Your aim is what your traits suggest. You are here to discuss to share/give/take knowledge that gives you satisfaction. So trying to get satisfaction/bliss/happiness is our objective. This has been called Moksha in Vedic Dharma.

———- What is the purpose of all the things we experience, suffer, enjoy ? …. When I think about the answer, it comes out as nothing.———

You may start with http://agniveer.com/series/vedic-lessons/ in this regard. I am sure your perception will change.

———–they start thinking that I’m suicidal but that’s really not the case.———–

This proves that YOU ARE IN FAVOR OF EXISTENCE instead of non existence 🙂 At least your actions/decisions to remain alive depict so!

————Given a choice, I’ll choose not to exist…

      • @Cantakeitnemore

————Given a choice, I’ll choose not to exist.————

No you misunderstood yourself! See above what I wrote.

  18. one q.-why god manages us?does he love us?and if he has not created us then why we r not god?saying that we r together since infinity.and as the population is increasing, not constant, where r.rest of us coming from?

    • @sunil:

Depending on which type of Vedantin you talk to, you are going to get different answers to this. Some of us believe God can assume a personality and has infinite good qualities, love of us being one such attribute. For some others, God is impersonal, beyond the concern of human problems. He has put in place the law of Karma/Reincarnation which is itself an act of supreme grace and love.

saying that we r together since infinity.and as the population is increasing, not constant, where r.rest of us coming from?

If it is HUMAN population that you find increasing and that is troubling you, are you sure there arent some species of animals that are getting extinct? Are you sure ours is the only universe out there? Keep in mind that the number of souls as per Hinduism is ALSO infinite and beginningless. So, it is not very easy to talk of a constant infinity or an increasing infinity like we talk about finite numbers.

    • @sunil:

different answers,do they have ability to satisfy ?

Some people find Hindu philosophy satisfying. Some apparently dont. Depends on who you talk to. Dvaitins and Visishtadvaitins have a different interpretations of the Brahmasutras than Advaitins. In any case these need to be studied in conjunction with other scriptures. Good luck. But in my view the question that comes up repeatedly is NOT how we came into being but more about how we can attain peace and happiness in this life. All branches of Vedantins more or less agree on the means to attain peace except at the very highest levels of ultimate release from bondage.

  19. one more q. ultimate release of bondage! more than knowing how to achieve that I m more curious to where will I go then(as I don’t have time for former!).things are actually getting a bit displeasing as I thought I m satisfied and question free!and in a position to tell others.anyways I would also like u to clarify the law of karma in the light of vedas regarding following questions.
1.someone dies in an accident due to others’ fault.what is the result of this act on both parties?
2.I had written this q.taking a personal reference and with a request to delete it once u r over with it,but I thought it won’t b possible.so I m presenting my question in a different way.a person gets lung cancer without having any known aetiological contact.another person, smokes like a chimney and yet has no trouble.medically we can say that the person had genetic predisposition.now is it even a reaction of our karma? why nowadays the bad people r enjoying better life and simple honest people r perishing?is there any good or bad deeds?since god doesn’t intervene, there shouldn’t be any.if it is there then what happens to the bad doing people and if the main purpose of vedas is to provide peace and happiness then it fails.I apologies to write that but I was just rationallising the things so that I can get peace!

    • @sunil:

The way I think about it is as follows. Karma decides in what condition one is born – gender, race, genetic health, family, etc. After one’s birth one is free to utilize one’s sense of discrimination to accumulate “merits” and “demerits”. Merits accumulate on performing one’s duty/dharma with a sense of detachment towards the result. There are various Sadhanas (practices) that can help one along this path – Bhakti, Jnana, etc. Karma can also play itself out multiple lifetimes. That is, if you have a Karma of say -100 in store, -50 can play out in one lifetime, -25 can play out in another lifetime and the remaining in a third lifetime.

(1)If a driver purposefully kills another human being out of a sense of hatred, that is BAD Karma. The innocent victim’s Karmic load is taken into account after his death. If it is a genuine mistake on part of the driver,

(2)In some sense, EVERYTHING is Karma + one’s discriminative faculties. As mentioned before, Karma can play itself out over multiple lifetimes. Also keep in mind that every action/happening on earth leaves some impression not only on the doer but also on those around. So, whether it is a baby that is delivered still born or good people having it bad or bad people having it good, part of it is all Karma. If you visited a hospital new born’s ward, some are born with better genetic makeup than others even though they are born to almost equally healthy parents. Either our life on earth is complete random [as the atheists hold], or Allah/Yahweh generates evil on earth, or our destiny is in our own hands providing us with the greatest responsibility over it as Hinduism holds.

As regards good or bad deeds, in my view, there isnt one single objective morality in Hinduism. Times change and society decides/arrives at a concensus of what is good/bad. From a purely theological perspective “good” actions in Hinduism are those that reduce the feeling of individual “I”-ness in a person. For instance, turning away from the sense pleasures, refraining from greed of accumulation of a lot of money, are good. Yoga is good because it cleanses the mind of conditionings, etc. The absolute height of goodness in Hinduism is when you are able to realize “Tat Tvam Asi” and “Sarve Khalu Idam Brahman”.

      So, take your pick.

      • Completing the part…

If it is a genuine mistake on part of the driver, both their remnant Karmic load is taken into account after the body’s death.

    • Like any Christian (and indeed any theist), I believe that the world has been created by God, and hence “intelligently designed.” The hallmark of intelligent design, however, is the claim that this can be shown scientifically; I’m dubious about that. …As far as I can see, God certainly could have used Darwinian processes to create the living world and direct it as he wanted to go; hence evolution as such does not imply that there is no direction in the history of life. What does have that implication is not evolutionary theory itself, but unguided evolution, the idea that neither God nor any other person has taken a hand in guiding, directing or orchestrating the course of evolution. But the scientific theory of evolution, sensibly enough, says nothing one way or the other about divine guidance. It doesn’t say that evolution is divinely guided; it also doesn’t say that it isn’t. Like almost any theist, I reject unguided evolution; but the contemporary scientific theory of evolution just as such—apart from philosophical or theological add-ons—doesn’t say that evolution is unguided. A world with free will is more valuable than a world without such, therefore God has reason to create a world which has the capability of evil. Thus because of this the existence of evil counts “neither against God’s omnipotence nor against His goodness”, rather it is an error by the creature in their exercise of such freedom.Like science in general, it makes no pronouncements on the existence or activity of God.
      Alvin Plantinga

  20. Consciousness and Religions
    ————————————————–
Time sccale for evolution of Consciousness is in the order of Billions of Years. The flow of Consciousness is like a river, when there is a uneven surface (trough or peak) along the path of flow, the water get stagnant there. Only in the plain & levelled surface water can flow without hindrance.
Religions are product of human unconsciousness where ego takes an important role.
Normally Consciousness enters into various levels of unconscious state and comes out from there to evolve further. At some unconscious state, Consciousness can’t come out so easily or will take too long to get out from there. The time period may be in the order of thousands of years.
Religion is a state of unconscious mind and we are all stuck at this stage. Ego the master of unconscious mind make us too much identified with our religion and causes wars, terrorism, conversions, injustice, superiority, suppression, slavery, inquisition, domination among the human beings.

It is important to look at all world religions that which creed give a free path for Consciousness to evolve further.
    1. Christianity: The religion is stuck at Jesus, people can’t think beyond him. If he never returns, there is no hope in the Christianity.
    2. Islam: This creed stuck at Mohammad and his book Quran. If there is no return of Jesus or Mehdi, absolute hoplessness will prevail in the future.
    3. Buddhism: It stuck at Buddha and his teachings. It may give some way for Consciousness to evolve, but strict follow of his teachings will slow down the Consciousness evolution.
    4. Hinduism: It never stopped at Ram & Krishna. It is an open ended religion and lot of room for people to think. It is the best religion for the Consciousness to evolve further in its own free way. It is the only plain land for Conscious river to flow, and most of the other religions behaves like either trough or peak, consciousness stuck at each of those points.

  21. Lord Shiva, his family, and Universe
    —————————————————————–
Shiva represents the endless empty space which holds the whole Universe.
Shakti represents the energy fields of every Particles, Planet, Stars, Galaxies, and Universe.
Ganesh represents all the five forms of matter (solid, liquid, fire, gas, ether) formed out of the Universe of primordial particle soup.
Skantha or Muruga represents the magnetic field (sometime referred as gravitational field) of all the subatomic particles to every celestial objects.

Dynamic spinning energy field formed from vast endless Emptiness, consequently it gave birth to Universe of particle soup by causing the Big Bang. After this effect, so as to keep individual particles spinning alive and avoid from crash each other, the energy field gives rise to magnetic field around every particle by virtue of its fast spinning. The magnetic field of individual particles protect itself to keep away from other particles so that it can constantly spin and doesn’t allow other particle to come very close to clash which will cause a collapse of spinning. Like how the Earth & Sun magnetic field works, in the similar manner the subatomic particle as well.

Shakti gave birth to two Sons Lord Ganesh (first: particles or matter), and Skantha (second: magnetic field or gravitational filed). Shiva, Shakti, Ganesh, and Skantha are all four represents the whole Universe as a family.

You can’t see Gods of Universes anywhere except in Hinduism. No other religious Gods have this qualities or capabilities to claim to be Omni God Hierarchy.

  22. “Whether we call it Vedantism or any ism, the truth is that Advaitism is the last word of religion and thought and the only position from which one can look upon all religions and sects with love . We believe it is the religion of the future enlightened humanity . The Hindus may get the credit of arriving at it earlier than other races, they being an older race than either the Hebrew or the Arab; yet practical Advaitism, which looks upon and behaves to all mankind as one’s own soul, is yet to be developed among the Hindus universally.

“On the other hand our experience is that if ever the followers of any religion approach to this equality in an appreciable degree in the plane of practical work-a-day life-it may be quite unconscious generally of the deeper meaning and the underlying principle of such conduct, which the Hindus as a rule so clearly perceive – it is those of Islam and Islam alone . . . .

“For our own motherland a junction of the two great systems, Hinduism and Islam.-Vedanta brain and Islam body-is the only hope.

“I see in my mind’s eye the future perfect India rising out of this chaos and strife, glorious and invincible, with Vedanta brain and Islam body.” This letter is dated Almora, 10th June, 1898-

  23. It is true that the ancient Hebrews invented Religious Genocide, which is the killing of other peoples for having a different religion than the killers’ own. They did this by murdering the priestesses and priests of the competing deities worshiped within their own population, then the competing clergy of all the local tribes. For good measure, they also killed the conquered tribe’s adults and boys, keeping only the little girls whom they could then rape and brainwash into the new religion of Yahweh-ism and their new roles as slaves to men (“Old Testament” is filled with plenty of examples). Jeremiah and his revisionist followers did their worst to remove the evidence of Yahweh’s wife Tiamat, and demoted the other deities to “Angels.” The history of what then became known as Judaism is, if we are to believe the Biblical tales, in large part one of sanctimonious religious terrorism — practiced right up to the time when their weapons were physically taken away from them. Many are offspring of a Genocidal Religion continue to doing the similar bad things forever to the mankind.

  24. please ans a question of mine
if god didnot create us then who created us
and how the number of human beings are increasing population i mean

    • Namaste Mohamad

      1. Here “us” denotes souls. Of course the bodies for souls are created and managed by Eeshvar.

      2. Every living being possesses soul. On earth itself, souls in human form are much smaller in number as compared to billions of other souls in other species. So the souls coming from other forms to human form can lead to increase in humans, there is no big deal. Also life is possible beyond this earth. There would be trillions of other such earths that have souls. So migration of souls among these earths can lead to increase/decrease in no of humans on different earths.

      • thanks for the answer brother but one thing I am not getting

if soul and my body i.e. jeev is happy killing another one and as you said god wants my soul to be happy so for me killing is not a crime
Please understand I am serious about it and my actions will depend on your reply

      • @Mo Arya:

As per my understanding, the soul is the witness. It is NOT the doer. The soul has multiple layers of samskaras/predispositions that cover it. This is why when Krishna says in the BG that your job is to do your duty and not worry about the results. By doing this, the predispositions are slowly peeled off from the soul. So, it is not just action that counts, but the intentions/attitude/predispositions that trigger the actions that also matter. For instance, if I intend to rob a bank and I go with a gun. But as I am about to rob the bank, another different robber is holding the bank up. I can kill him with my gun and everyone would praise me. But yet, my intentions were bad to begin with. Unless these dispositions/intentions are cleared, action will lead to reinforcement of such dispositions.

      • Bro KB

You believe souls perform actions (mental, verbal, and physical). Then I couldn’t understand how soul is not the doer? I agree that it acts under the influence of Samskaras, but it always has to have some scope for DOING something.

      • Mohammad

———jeev is happy killing another one——-

Jeev is so ignorant that it does not realize what happiness is. For example a child can attract to fire and touch it thinking it to be enjoyable but ends up burning himself. Similar way Jeev, as stated by KB, has lot of Samskaras due to which it is not able to judge perfectly what is right and what is wrong, what is leading them to joy and what to destruction. But Eeshvar knows that someone’s ill intentions can never lead him to bliss. So Jeev is checked accordingly by Eeshvar so that he comes to right path leading to true bliss.

  25. @Bro Vajra:

In Advaitic view, the best way to describe Brahman is existence-consciousness-bliss. This is NOT an attribute or property of a thing called Brahman, but is the very essence of Brahman. Now, if we understand “Tat Tvam Asi”, what is it telling us? The inhering soul in “me” or “you” is just this Brahman. But, we have various Upadhis [limiting adjuncts] like our body, our family, etc. with which we identify “me” or “you”. Thus, these upadhis play the role of hiding our true nature. These give rise to different samskaras.

We are existing, we are conscious, but unfortunately we are not able to attain bliss.

At the Paramartha level of reality [as opposed to Vyavaharika level of reality] Brahman also is not the doer. There is no cause and no effect. There is no becoming or doing. There is just pure being.

Nice to discuss philosophy once in a while…debating Momins all the time is boring.

Let us continue this discussion so that my OWN understanding of Hinduism is enhanced.

    • KB

I always find it difficult to appreciate the contradiction b/w Vyavharika and Paramartha level. It is because the very concept of Paramartha level is again the product of Vyavharika level that contains ignorance!

Why there should be any contradictions within two realities, is the question?

Also why Brahman in Vyavharika level dwells in delusion? What is the cause of this ignorance as per Vyavharika reality? Is this Swabhav (property) of Brahman? If yes then we can never attain Moksha. If this is something other than Brahman, Advaita goes for a toss.

I just love discussing our great Hindu philosophies with my friends. Hope we continue..

      • @Vajra:

I dont think Advaita claims that there is a contradiction between Paramartha and Vyavaharika. There is enhanced and true knowledge about the way things are. The standard example that explains this is: if you see a rope in the dark you mistake it as a snake and run away in fear. Is the fear unreal? Is the snake unreal? No, they are TRUE in Vyavaharika. It is in Paramartha that one see that it was actually only a rope and hence there was no need to be afraid or run away from it. The knowledge in Paramartha is incomparable with knowledge in Vyavaharika. They are both true in their own domains. The two domains are not comparable. [I may be off here and need to hit some texts to make sure I got this right.]

Maya’s relationship to Brahman is anirvachaniya – indescribable. Maya does not reside in Brahman. It is other than Brahman. But, Advaita says that Maya/Avidya is not eternal because they can be overcome with proper knowledge. Hence, Brahman ALONE is real and eternal. What can be overcome with proper knowledge is therefore unreal in the Advaitic sense.

Brahman in Vyavaharika is Ishwara. Ishwara is Brahman’s reflection in Maya. So, Brahman is truly beyond Vyavaharika. We can only talk of Ishwara in Vyavaharika.

      • @KalBhairav,
The explanation will be complete only if you describe the three anologies in sequence.

        Rope appearing as snake
        Missing Necklace of the lady
        Mirage in desert

      • KB

Actually problem in discussing Paramartha level is that we dont get any similitude to describe. We give examples of Vyavharika to understand Paramartha which, I believe, is technically incorrect. For example reflection, rope, snake etc are all from Vyavharika and thus cant be used for Paramartha. Thus, I think, we can never discuss/appreciate Paramartha reality.

On Vyavharika level, is this relation of Maya and Eeshvar/Brahman without beginning? If yes then how can its end possible? And if it comes from somewhere then who is its source (in Vyavharika level)? I think we should explore it more beyond Anirvachaniya because latter is the concept that requires both Vyavharika and Paramartha realities to survive but ideally we must apply these two realities exclusively.

      • @Vajra:

On Vyavharika level, is this relation of Maya and Eeshvar/Brahman without beginning? If yes then how can its end possible?

This is an old controversy – as to where exactly does Maya reside. If it is with Brahman, then you are right, moksha is NOT possible. Shankara is clear that it does NOT reside in Brahman.

I think there are two sub-schools of Advaita depending on their answer to the locus of Maya.

In any case, this is a long standing issue…not possible to be resolved within Satyagni.

      • KB

I read Dayanand’s Traitvaad (three eternal entities- God, soul, and matter) and found very logical. We (souls), with the help of matter (Prakriti) as tool, am searching God (we can call it as Eeshvar or Brahman). When soul attains Moksha, it still does not become one with Eeshvar. It retains its swabhaav and enjoys bliss/knowledge. And after certain time, it again comes in the cycle of Karma. This cycle of bondage and Moksha is itself eternal.

What do you think about it? I request you to question it so that I can improve my understanding and rectify my current stand if necessary.

  26. @Vajra:

It appears that that Swami Dayanand’s position is similar to the Dvaitin position. According to this, Jivas are different in kind from Brahman. As also Prakriti. But they are also not completely different. This is expressed as identity-in-difference – bheda-abheda [difference-nondifference]. Example would be the sun vs sun rays. The latter is completely dependent on the former, yet is different from it.

Also, Advaita doesnt disagree with this cosmology/ontology. Advaita simply holds that the Dvaitin view is valid in Vyavaharika, while the ultimate truth is Paramartha. Advaita takes recourse to the Mahakavyas [Tav Tvam Asi, Sarve Khalu Idam Brahma, Sarvam Etad Brahma – Ayam Atma Brahma] to establish their position. The Brhadaranyaka Upanishad is also considered to be the Upanishad that most closely expounds the Advaitic view.

Regarding Moksha, I am not fully educated on the Advaitin view. The Brahmasutras have a section dealing with this – Section 3 which can be found here

    http://www.swami-krishnananda.org/bs_00.html

I personally find not much difference in the cosmogony of either Dvaita, Advaita or Samkhya in the phenomenal world. I do find them quite rationalistic. All of these have the same ontological entities except that Samkhya equates Brahman with Pradhana. So, Samkhya is considered by Vedantins to be somewhat atheistic in their philosophy.

  27. Namste Brother Vajra and KB

sharing whatever little i understand on the subject

There are multiple Realities in this world depending on who and what frame of reference these are being seen from.

    Lets take “colors” for example.

Do colors exist ? for all those who have certain kinds of eyes and sentience – colors definitely exist – BUT in their own MINDS

Now, from the absolute perspective do colors exist? NO! they don’t

the concept of color is not very different from the concept of causality which perplexes the human mind (chicken egg causality for instance) but is not an absolute reality

when we say , Brahman is beyond space-time , it’s futile to search for its causal connections with Maya from an absolute perspective

The Ishvar, Maya, Jiva triad is indeed a REALITY for all those who consider themselves as Jivas .For all such people (which constitute the majority of us all) , vyahavarika is the way forward and Vedas become the ultimate guide.

But just like colors have no meaning in the absolute perspective, so does vyavahirika. It’s another matter that all discussions about parmarthika also fall under vyahvarika. The idea in such discourse is to guide intuition through rational pointers..and not to DEFINE or RESOLVE parmarthika as its impossible.

Why there should be any contradictions within two realities, is the question?

from the example of colors and also from Quantum Mechanics we know that REALITY is always subject to being viewed differently (even contradictorily) depending on the observer of Reality. REALITY does not get impacted by the observer but the observer starts treating REALITY as whatever his/her senses report and whatever his/her mind/intellect deciphers

Also why Brahman in Vyavharika level dwells in delusion?

as brother KB said, the locus of delusion is not Brahman but the Jiva . Its the *Infinite Aliveness – The Infinite Probalities* of (Brahman), of which, the *jiva* collapses some and treats them erroneously as complete reality.

What is the cause of this ignorance as per Vyavharika reality? Is this Swabhav (property) of Brahman?

    Ishavar = Brahman + ( Maya/Prakriti with its tri-gunas in balanced state )
Jiva = Brahamn + (Maya/Prakriti in imbalanced state)

from vyahvarika perspective Ishvar = Brahman + Maya (prakriti- cosmic creative will) , Jiva = Brahman + individual creative will

It’s the Jiva which is the locus of illusion and not Brahman . Brahman is indeed the non-finite Seer , while prakriti(Maya) is playing out its trigunas in the affinity of Brahman.

The Jiva has to understand his own individual maya as well as Ishavaras to realize Brahman.

    • @IA:

Good points. Another difference between Advaita and other realist schools is that Advaita believes in cause preexisting in an unmanifested state within the effect itself. All Vedanta Darshanas believe so. They use this, in part, to explain the Nasadiya Sukta of RV. Advaita believe in Vivartavada [effect is unreal] while Dvaita/Visishtadvaita believes in Parinamavada [effect is real].

    • Namaste Brother Indian Agnostic

The greatest reality to me at the moment is that I am talking to my dear Bro after a long time 🙂 Great to see you back!

      My views/questions on your post-

———-There are multiple Realities in this world depending on who and what frame of reference these are being seen from.———

Bro, are these multiple realities comparable? Is there any scale to compare the two realities and to know which one is better? Or being in different frames, the two are never comparable?

———-Now, from the absolute perspective do colors exist? NO! they don’t———-

Bro, how can we deny existence of colors in absolute perspective when we dont have access to absolute frame of reference?

———But just like colors have no meaning in the absolute perspective, so does vyavahirika.———-

Again this is an assumption, IMO.

———-It’s another matter that all discussions about parmarthika also fall under vyahvarika.——–

I think its not just the discussions but the very concept of Paramarthika (PR) falls under Vyavhaarika!

———the locus of delusion is not Brahman but the Jiva.

      Ishavar = Brahman + ( Maya/Prakriti with its tri-gunas in balanced state )
      Jiva = Brahamn + (Maya/Prakriti in imbalanced state) ———

As far as I could understand, Brahman does not exist in Vyavharika Reality (VR). So we can never define Ishvar or Jiva in terms of Brahman in VR. If we do that, it depicts that VR is dependent on PR for its existence but ends up contradicting it!

———–The Jiva has to understand his own individual maya as well as Ishavaras to realize Brahman.———-

Again, in VR, what is the motivation for Jeev that it will try to realize Brahman? Suppose you are one observer and I am another. You think you should realize Brahman, I think I should not! Now who is relatively correct? Moreover when I think of getting Moksha or become Brahman, my mind turns blank thinking that I will cease to exist in a way (I will become Nirguna) that even the feeling of being Brahman will not be there! So this contradiction b/w PR and VR keeps deviating my mind all the time and does not let me take firm decisions about my spiritual journey.

(in the above para “I” does not represent myself, it is any observer having these questions)

For these reasons I always prefer to have one theory that I discussed with you long ago. And I believe it is consistent and answers my questions up to fair amount of satisfaction. You can help me improve it by questioning it or by comparing pros and cons of both models.

      Your Brother

      • @Vajra:

I think the thing to keep in mind about Advaita is that Advaita defines Reality as that which is unchanging [true both in Vyavaharika as well as Paramartha]. Now, you can surely dispute this definition.

But if you DO accept this definition of reality, Advaita claims that the only entity capable of being defined as real is Brahman. All our actions in daily life are not eternal. If something is not eternal, it changes and hence it is unreal. Nothing in Vyavaharika is unchanging. Hence nothing in Vyavharika is “real” as defined above.

And I believe it is consistent and answers my questions up to fair amount of satisfaction.

This is spot on! The purpose of any darshana is whether it answers questions to YOU and you alone satisfactorily.

      • Bro KB

——-Advaita defines Reality as that which is unchanging———

So “Vyavaharika level of reality” must be an oxymoron?

And thanks @ purpose of Darshana, I liked it.

      • @Bro Vajra:

So “Vyavaharika level of reality” must be an oxymoron?

This is the very bone of contention between Advaitins and Dvaitins. 🙂

Advaitins will answer everything is consciousness. If it werent for consciousness, nothing would even manifest. Advaita will give examples about how even with electrons being 99% empty, how an opaque hard wall comes to be built? They also will take recourse to the Upanishads and suggest that the Upanishads actually proclaim the Advaitic view.

Dvaitins will say Advaitins are taking recourse to special pleading. They bring up the same points that you have already – how can Vyavaharika even point to Paramartha?

The difference cannot be resolved. The differences are irreconcilable.

By many accounts, Shankara has done the best job of providing a consistent interpretation of the Upanishads. It is also believed that Ramanuja has provided the best interpretation of Brahmasutras. Both of these [Brahmasutras and Upanishads] are supreme for Vedantins.

  28. Awesome..

    my logics were almost similar
i feel lot happier to find the similar answers

but my doubts are still existing

    that is
    1. i feel that “After attaining Moksha you act like god himself , there will not be any difference between the two except they being two souls”
    2. after attaining moksha they will not be bound by karma as they can attain moksha only if there is no karma with them
and they have become super souls by now even if they come on earth they will live like gods among us like krishn etc
    3. there are innumerable number of souls so the process keep on happening i think, as each cell in animal is also a soul remember!!
and the universe is vast considering Bhagavad Geetha it is highly rare like 0.0000…….0000001 of probability where people have understood
    4. why is it necessary to have a balance between number of people attaining Brahman to be equal to number of people coming from (if people can comeback from it whats so special about that place)Brahman

    • 3. there are innumerable number of souls so the process keep on happening i think, as each cell in animal is also a soul remember!!

  29. Wonderful article..I feel as if I got the answer for the puzzle!!..I am lucky that I came across this website.
I have a doubt ..Please clarify..
I believe Astrology. Has Veda’s mention about astrology anywhere?..how positions of the planets are linked to our life?
I feel ‘Astrology’ is one more way God wants to help us?
As per the statement in the beginning of this article – “Whatever is happening with us in our life is as per our own efforts till last moment. And we can change the course of our destiny through present and future efforts.”
it seems our life events are NOT a planned one. We can change the course of our life as per our WILL. If so, is ‘Astrology’ – the very old mathematical science is not right?..

    Thank you

  30. Brother cantakeitmore, vajra brother was nicely making u understand of the fact. Causes are because of cause. There is cause behind every phenomenon. Thus when u search the causes one after another, u ud get an ultimate cause. Now u can ask what is the cause bhind ultimate cause. That ud b childish. How a human body forms? From a single sperm, right? Now what is the reason bhind the formation of sperm? Gradually u ud get nearer to supreme cause aftr vch u hav to answer. So it is better accept there is no cause bhind supreme cause. Dhanyawad

  32. Vajra Ji, this applies to hidutwa also, why did Eshwar created human beings to worship him? or as you say why your respective dieties turn away their faces to those who do not worship them ???

    • @Human
Who the bastered told you God created us for fulfilling its worshiping desire of itself. Only Shaitan think like this.

    • Dear! One thing I must tell you. If you are an atheist than it is fine. You have freedom of religion. But if you are a Muslim, (you are free to practice any belief in India), I would request NOT to insult humanity by naming yourself as a human. Islam is a curse upon humanity. NOT only Agniveer but world’s top thinkers have accepted this. A Proverb says – NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE IN THIS WORLD. The only exception to this great rule is: Muslims cannot be a true human. Almost everyone admits that the Muslims are worst than even the biggest criminals.

      Proof: http://godofreason.com/user/image/islamevilinthenameofgodebook.pdf

      So, don’t insult humanity.

Answering your question!!! Please refer the text of Madhawacharya. In his book of Savadarshansamgraha, he says that Hindus tolerated even Atheism => Hindus don’t believe in GOD creating for self worship. Hindus aren’t Muslims. Regarding deities turning away their faces. Where you find such funny things (Hindus worship Vigrahas and how can a Vigraha turn away face on its own?) in authentic Hindu books. I don’t find any deity turning away face to NON worshiper in Vedas.

  33. sorry to interrupt, but Kapilji kya aap punya nahin kamana chahtey??
Ok leave it, my question is- aaap paap aur punya me se kya kamana chahtey hain aur kyun kamana chahtey hain ???

  34. Namaste Great Souls ( Agniveer, Arya, Vajra, Indian Agnostic & KalBhairav)

I’m a bit confused. I’ve heard since birth that “Everything we see around or can even imagine of belongs to the Supreme Being”. The Universe ( Brahmaan) and Souls (Atman) are nothing but his manifestations. A question, that what was before creation doesn’t come as there was never such time when universe didn’t exist. The real question is “Why doesn’t now Supreme Being merge himself with the universe & souls and end all this creation to be in perfect balance where souls do not experience good or bad, happiness or sorrow, winters or summers etc. & not even the feeling of self ‘I’ ?”
“What is exactly in clear terms meant by ‘Moksha’ ?” I’ve heard it means to be in union with God and never take birth again but what’s the proof who knows what happens after death ?

Thanks in advance for your answer
    Karna

    • Namaste Brother Karna

——–I’ve heard since birth that “Everything we see around or can even imagine of belongs to the Supreme Being”.——-

Eeshvar being greatest, wisest, mightiest, creator (who reshuffles elementary particles of Prakriti to create meaningful universe), and controller, deserves to be Supreme. And since nothing is beyond His control, everything is said to belong to Him.

——-The Universe ( Brahmaan) and Souls (Atman) are nothing but his manifestations.——

No. Here Agniveer differs. There are three eternal (beginningless and endless) entities as per Vedic Philosophy. None of these three is manifestation of other(s).

——what was before creation doesn’t come as there was never such time when universe didn’t exist.——

It means that there was no time when Prakriti (physical particles) did not exist. Of course universe is created and destroyed in cyclic manner. But destruction is nothing but disjointing of adjoined particles. And creation means adjoining of disjoint particles.

——–The real question is “Why doesn’t now Supreme Being merge himself with the universe & souls——-

Because He can’t change His properties, neither can He create something out of nothing nor He can destroy something to nothing. A perfect entity never changes. His knowledge is perfect always.

——-“What is exactly in clear terms meant by ‘Moksha’ ?”———–

As per our understanding, Moksha is a state where soul does not need to undergo the cycle of birth and death for a very long time. During this period soul explores Eeshvar and His creation further and gets uninterrupted knowledge, love, and bliss of Eeshvar in the process.

Please go through this series carefully. Last two articles deal with Moksha. Top 5 talk about Eeshvar, soul and universe. Hope that will address most of your queries. http://agniveer.com/series/vedic-lessons/

      • 😀 Thanks for a beautiful explanation @Vajra Brother. I’ll surely read all the articles before asking any question regarding the “Trinity”. By great souls I meant “Mahatma”, cause all of you are really doing a great job!! Every soul no doubt is potentially equal, but some do perform remarkable feats and are liable to be called great souls. Raising voice against & eradicating fanaticism and irrationality from its very root is not an easy task. Mother earth must be proud to have you guys. Someday I also hope to join Agniveer team to do selfless service for mankind.

  35. Nothing material/phyisical exists for ever. This is what you observe in the world. Do you mean to say the nature/Prakriti existed eternal with God ? Nature proves that everything that exists in material form should perish. SO, was the nature/Prakriti material or spiritual in the beginning..? And if it was spiritual then God “created” the present world in material form ?..

How can anything other than God be co-eternal with God.. ? Then that should also be a God, I think. Anything that is immortal should be absolutely powerful too. Are soul and nature then as powerful as God ?

    • @Okunnel:

      Nothing material/phyisical exists for ever.
Not in the same form, but it just transforms from one to another. From nothing you get nothing. So, if we have material/physical stuff, it came out of preexisting material/physical stuff. Do you believe hell is material/physical? I am curious now. 😉
Do you mean to say the nature/Prakriti existed eternal with God ?
      Absolutely.
SO, was the nature/Prakriti material or spiritual in the beginning..?
Please clarify what you mean by material/spiritual in the context of this question. Prakriti was simply unmanifest in Pralaya [dissolution]. This means that it was existing in subtle form. For instance, the butter is unmanifest/subtle in milk. Like that Prakriti and Purusha existed in subtle/unmanifest form. Note that in Vedanta ontology, Prakriti and Purusha are eternal entities that are completely dependent on God. An analogy for this is the sun rays [dependent] and the sun [independent]. Yet, both the sun and the sun rays are co-eternal.
How can anything other than God be co-eternal with God.. ?
Why not? It really depends on ontology. See analogy above. Do you think time is co-eternal with God?
Anything that is immortal should be absolutely powerful too.
Not necessary. Why do you think so?

  36. @Vijay SJ:

You completely miss the point here. The point of the article is if God exists, why would he create? This article is not arguing for the existence or non-existence of God.

  37. All Why can GOD cannot create SOUL if he is all powerfull, please do reply.I need answer to this.Matter I understand but why not SOUL.WHy he canot create and destroy SOul.

    • God created the Soul. There is nothing outside God that was not created. God created soul. It did not come into existence by itself. To call God, God, he has to be the creator of all
